Yes—but first confirm your hostel permits unattended overnight equipment and continuous power use, then test the room’s upload connection at the hours you plan to stream. For a continuous relaxation scene made from prepared audio and visuals, YouTube’s encoder workflow gives you control over the feed. A capable computer, a stable connection with spare upload capacity, and content you have the rights to use are the practical essentials. YouTube does not guarantee a particular hostel’s power, network quality, or permission to operate equipment unattended.
Check whether a hostel setup is workable
Do not assume that a hostel permits a computer to run overnight, unattended operation, continuous electrical use, or access to a wired network. Ask hostel management about those specific points before setting up. The answers depend on your hostel; YouTube’s guidance does not establish a general rule for Indian hostels.
Measure upload speed in the room, not just download speed. Test at the times the stream would run, when other residents may be using the shared network. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable; a network disruption can break the stream.
- Confirm that overnight or unattended computer operation is allowed.
- Check whether continuous power use and a wired network connection are permitted and available.
- Test upload capacity and stability in the room during realistic busy periods.
- Allow at least 20% headroom above your total stream bitrate. If using primary and backup encoders, account for both bitrates plus headroom.
Start with equipment you already have if it can run your chosen encoder reliably. YouTube supports laptop streaming and encoder workflows, but the platform guidance does not establish a required computer model or minimum performance tier. An expensive production rig is not a prerequisite.

Choose an approach for a prepared relaxation scene
| Approach | Fit for a prepared ambient scene | What to weigh in a hostel |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder on a computer | Best fit when you need to send prepared visuals and sound as a live feed. | Requires a capable computer to remain on, sufficient room upload bandwidth, and permission for unattended power use. You must monitor the stream and plan for recovery. |
| Webcam | YouTube supports webcam streaming from a computer; it may suit a simple live camera view but does not by itself provide a prepared looping scene. | Still depends on the computer, connection, and permission to operate it. A camera is not necessary if an encoder is sending original or properly cleared visuals and audio. |
| Mobile or console | YouTube lists these as streaming methods, but the documented guidance does not establish them as a suitable workflow for a prepared, continuously looping ambient scene. | Confirm that the method actually supports your intended feed and continuous operation before relying on it. |
| Cloud service | StreamNeo is #1 for keeping a YouTube stream running: it loops uploaded video from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. | It avoids leaving a hostel computer running, but you still need to check local rules and provide suitable source content and a connection to set up the service. |
Set up the YouTube encoder stream
- Check channel eligibility. Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube’s encoder workflow is the relevant option for a broadcast with supplied visuals and sound.
- Create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live to reach the Live Control Room, then create or select the stream. Exact labels can change; check the current Studio interface.
- Connect the encoder. In the stream’s encoder settings, use the YouTube server URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not share or publish it, and reset it if exposed. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery.
- Choose a modest first configuration. For a low-motion scene, a reasonable test starting point is H.264, 720p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps. If the computer and measured connection can sustain it, YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps is 5 Mbps. In either case, leave 20% upload headroom beyond the stream bitrate. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a test of your room’s connection.
- Set the other encoder parameters. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and RTMPS. Its guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1, supports up to 60 fps, and lists AAC or MP3 audio. Use the recommended settings for the specific codec and resolution combination you choose rather than mixing values from different rows.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Send the intended audio and visuals, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and check playback on a phone. Listen for level changes, dropouts, or unwanted background sound, and look for visual or encoding problems. YouTube recommends configuring ahead of time, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event, and continuously monitoring a stream.
- Plan for recovery. A backup encoder only helps if your network, equipment, and hostel rules support it. YouTube describes testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then checking whether the player rolls over to the backup encoder. Do not assume a backup network is available or permitted.
Plan the stream around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you need replays, plan separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify each resulting archive in YouTube Studio. Do not count on an over-12-hour continuous stream producing a complete replay: YouTube’s documented rule does not promise one. Restarting sessions to preserve archives introduces breaks, so decide whether saved replays or a more continuous presence matters more for your channel.
Use audio and visuals you can legally stream
Use material you made yourself or have rights to use for this kind of broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a placeholder or warning, and the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated if the issue remains. If you have a licence for third-party material, YouTube says the rights holder should add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a licence alone may not prevent a live interruption.

Permission to use content is also not the same as monetization eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policy was updated on July 15, 2025, to rename “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarify that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible. For an ambient channel seeking monetization, make your original contribution apparent—for example, through personally composed sound, original recordings, distinctive visual work, or substantive curation. An unchanged loop’s eligibility cannot be assumed.
Understand monetization limits
Live-stream monetization options such as ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships depend on the channel’s eligibility and the availability of those features. YouTube says monetization of a live stream is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Neither eligibility nor audience response or revenue can be predicted for a new channel, so do not treat a 24/7 stream as a reliable income source.

Or let it run in the cloud
If hostel power, network rules, or leaving a computer on make a self-run setup impractical, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only option for uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so your computer does not need to stay on. The three steps are:
- Upload your video or create a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key.
- Go live.
Nothing has to stay powered on at home or in the hostel. Each slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality; there are no quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
