How to Run a 24/7 Indian Music YouTube Stream from a Synology NAS

A Synology NAS can store and organize music, but a separate encoder or hosted service must publish the continuous audiovisual stream to YouTube. Here’s how to plan and test the workflow safely.

You can use a Synology NAS to store and organize the music, but Synology’s documented Audio Station feature is not established as a tool for broadcasting a continuous music playlist to YouTube. You need a separate encoder or hosted service to turn the audio into a YouTube-compatible live stream. Before relying on any setup around the clock, verify that it works with your NAS model and DSM version, and test how it recovers from power, network, and software interruptions.

What the Synology NAS can—and cannot—do

Synology describes Audio Station as a way to organize a music library, create playlists, and play music through browsers and supported devices. That makes it useful as a library and playback tool, but the available official documentation does not establish it as a complete music-to-YouTube broadcasting solution. See Synology’s Audio Station specifications for DSM 7.4.

Synology also documents YouTube live broadcasting in Surveillance Station. That feature sends live camera streams and supports H.264; it is not a music-playlist encoder. Its historical setup guide describes selecting a camera and entering a YouTube RTMP path and stream key, but that guide is based on Surveillance Station 8.2 and should not be treated as evidence that a current DSM package can broadcast music playlists. See the Surveillance Station specifications for DSM 7.4 and the Surveillance Station 8.2 user guide.

Container Manager is Synology’s package name for container management in documentation covering DSM 7.2 and later; the name alone does not confirm that a particular third-party encoder image is compatible with your NAS. Synology’s support documentation about NAS connections and software updates notes the change from Docker to Container Manager starting with DSM 7.2.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose where the encoder will run

The system needs to do more than play audio. An encoder must read the media, pair it with a visual stream, and send a continuous audiovisual feed to YouTube. The NAS can hold the source files, but the encoder may run on the NAS, another computer on your network, or in a hosted service. The available Synology documentation does not identify a current NAS-compatible music encoder with verified restart recovery, so check compatibility and resilience for the exact model, DSM release, and software you plan to use.

  • Encoder on the NAS: Convenient access to NAS-stored files, but you must verify the encoder’s compatibility, performance, and behavior after DSM or package restarts.
  • Encoder on another local computer: The computer can read shared files from the NAS, but it and the home network must remain available for the stream to continue.
  • Hosted service: Can avoid keeping a local encoder running, but confirm that the service accepts your media and supports the workflow you need. A cloud service is not automatically a direct connection to your NAS; you may need to upload files to it.

For a local encoder, expose only the media it needs, using a network share or other supported access method. Avoid exposing the NAS broadly to the public internet just to make files reachable. Use a separate, least-privilege account if the encoder needs NAS access, and protect both NAS credentials and YouTube credentials.

Prepare the music, visuals, and YouTube channel

1. Clear the rights before uploading or going live

Make sure you have the necessary rights for every recording and visual in the program. A song being devotional, traditional, or freely available online does not by itself establish that you may broadcast a particular recording. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” The terms also require compliance with applicable laws and maintenance of relevant licenses, registrations, consents, notifications, or approvals for the stream territory.

2. Build and test a playlist

Organize the cleared tracks into a playback order and decide how the program should transition between them. Check that each file plays through the intended player and that the encoder can read it. Also prepare the visual portion: the encoder must send video along with audio for the audiovisual stream. Confirm that the audio is audible and balanced, the visual is present, and the playlist proceeds without gaps or unexpected stops. Audio Station can help manage and play a library, but its documented features do not establish that it will perform the YouTube broadcast.

3. Create the YouTube live event and protect its key

In your YouTube live-streaming workflow, create or select the event, then obtain the ingest details required by your encoder. Enter the server or RTMP address and stream key only in the encoder or service that will publish the stream. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in a public playlist, share it in screenshots, or include it in a public configuration file. If it is exposed, replace or rotate it through YouTube’s live-stream controls and update the encoder.

Configure the encoder and prove it can stay live

Because there is no verified current Synology playlist-to-YouTube encoder recipe established here, do not assume that a particular package, container, or setting will work on every NAS. Follow the chosen encoder’s documentation and YouTube’s current ingest instructions for its supported stream format. In particular, confirm the video codec and resolution, audio format, bitrate, keyframe interval, and destination settings are accepted by the encoder and YouTube. No universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe value is established for this Synology workflow.

  1. Point the encoder to the media: Select the playlist or source files and verify that the encoder can continue reading them from the NAS share or local storage.
  2. Set the audiovisual output: Choose a supported video format and visual source, along with an audio format compatible with the encoder and YouTube ingest settings. Verify playback in a private or otherwise appropriate test event before the public launch.
  3. Enter YouTube’s ingest credentials: Add the event’s server address and stream key in the encoder’s publishing settings. Keep the key private.
  4. Set continuous playback: Enable playlist looping or the equivalent continuous-play option only if the selected encoder supports it. Confirm what happens when the final track ends, a file cannot be read, or a track is removed.
  5. Test failure and recovery: Observe a full test long enough to cover playlist transitions. Then test the recovery behavior you need after an encoder restart, NAS restart, network interruption, and power loss. Confirm whether the encoder resumes publishing automatically, needs a manual start, or leaves YouTube’s event waiting for a new connection.
  6. Check archive behavior separately: If you want YouTube to save an archive, verify the event’s archive settings and inspect the result after a test. Do not assume that every stream will be archived or that an archive will be available for a particular duration.

Plan for interruptions and copyright checks

An always-on broadcast depends on every part of the chain: the source files, NAS or hosted storage, encoder, power, network path, and YouTube ingest. A NAS that stays powered on does not by itself guarantee an uninterrupted stream. Before calling the setup 24/7-ready, document which component restarts the encoder, who receives failure alerts, and how you will restore the stream if the NAS or connection does not recover automatically.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Its guidance on copyright issues with live streams says YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn the operator, or interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed third-party content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Seek any necessary allowlisting from the rights holder; having a license does not itself ensure uninterrupted delivery.

It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home while the cloud stream runs.
  • One flat price per slot covers the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card required; this is one free day per account.
  • Monthly: $9.99 per month.
