To run a fireplace-video playlist on YouTube Live, play the clips in OBS Studio with a VLC Video source, enable playlist looping, and send the feed to a YouTube encoder stream using its stream URL and key. That keeps the video repeating while the broadcast is active—but YouTube does not guarantee an indefinite connection, and a continuous stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Plan for monitoring, rights clearance, and replay preservation before you go live.
Before you set up the stream
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had livestream restrictions during the previous 90 days. First-time livestream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance rather than waiting until the planned launch. See YouTube’s livestreaming tips and encoder setup instructions.
Clear every video and audio right
Use fireplace footage and sound that you own or have permission to use for the intended worldwide YouTube livestream. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match may replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate it. If you licensed third-party material, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live stream to proceed without interruption. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Decide whether you need a replay
A nonstop broadcast and a complete replay archive are separate goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, plan shorter broadcasts and make a local recording; do not assume one 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Build the looping playlist in OBS
-
Install OBS Studio and VLC. In OBS, the VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install the matching 64-bit VLC version. Refer to the OBS media sources guide.
-
Open OBS and add a VLC Video source to the scene you will stream. Add your fireplace clips to that source’s playlist in the order you want them to play.
-
Enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle disabled if you want the same predictable clip order each time the playlist repeats.

Plan for a stream that stays up
OBS and VLC can repeat the playlist, but that does not guarantee a continuous broadcast. A computer restart, network failure, encoder issue, or YouTube interruption can stop the feed. The official setup guidance does not promise uninterrupted operation or establish a guaranteed maximum continuous runtime. Keep a way to check the stream and respond when it drops; test your recovery steps before relying on the broadcast.
Choose equipment for the job you have
An existing computer running OBS is a reasonable starting point; the cited guidance does not require a particular computer model or minimum specification for a fireplace loop. YouTube also describes hardware encoders as an option for higher-production streams, but does not establish that one is necessary or guarantees uptime. Compare options based on playlist control, ability to run continuously, monitoring and recovery, setup effort, and total cost. A dedicated machine is optional.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Understand replay and monetization limits
If preserving the program matters, use planned shorter broadcasts and record locally rather than relying on a long stream’s archive. A local copy also gives you a fallback if YouTube does not capture the broadcast.

Do not assume a repeated fireplace loop will qualify for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and classify repetitive or mass-produced material under its inauthentic-content policy. A specific channel’s eligibility or review outcome cannot be inferred from the policy alone. For eligible monetized streams, possible revenue sources include ads, Super Chat or Super Stickers, and channel memberships; ad slots are not guaranteed to serve an ad. See YouTube’s livestream monetization guidance.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is missing or the playlist will not load | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. Reopen OBS and recheck the VLC Video source. |
| The playlist stops after the last clip | Loop Playlist is disabled. | Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist. Keep shuffle off if order matters. |
| YouTube receives no picture or shows no preview | Incorrect stream URL or key, stream not started in OBS, or activation/eligibility issue. | Recheck the URL and key in YouTube Studio and OBS, confirm channel eligibility, and allow time for first-time activation, which YouTube says may take up to 24 hours. |
| The preview works but the public stream has no sound | Clip audio may be absent or not routed to OBS’s output mix. | Check the clip itself, OBS audio meters and monitoring, then verify audio in YouTube’s preview before going live. |
| The stream is interrupted after a copyright match | Third-party video or audio was detected; a license may not be reflected in Content ID. | Use cleared material. If licensed material is involved, contact the rights holder about allowlisting your channel, then follow YouTube’s copyright guidance. |
| A long broadcast is missing from the archive | The stream exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. | Use shorter planned sessions and a local recording when replay preservation matters. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home connection to stay on, StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist from the cloud to YouTube. The setup is: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
-
Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo loops from the cloud and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream.
-
Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
