To run a crystal singing bowl stream on YouTube with OBS, route the bowl’s sound into your computer, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in OBS, then test the full audio and video path before going public. For a genuine 24/7 broadcast, plan for continuous monitoring and power or network interruptions—and do not rely on YouTube to archive one uninterrupted stream lasting longer than 12 hours.
Before you set up OBS
YouTube must have live streaming enabled for your channel. The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is your first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned start time.
Decide what viewers will see
Choose a stable visual for a long-running broadcast: for example, a steady camera view of the bowl or a static image you have rights to use. If the stream includes a camera, test its framing and movement as well as the sound. Make sure you have the rights to the visual and all audio you broadcast.
Plan for the physical setup
The bowl must be captured by an audio input that OBS can use. Depending on your equipment, the signal path may include a microphone and a preamp or audio interface. The right microphone, placement, interface and room treatment depend on your bowl, room and equipment; there is no single setup established here as best for every singing bowl.

Connect the bowl audio to OBS
- Connect your capture equipment. Connect the microphone or other audio hardware to the computer, using an audio interface or preamp if your setup requires one. Confirm that the input is available to the operating system and OBS.
- Add or select the input in OBS. In your scene, add an Audio Input Capture source and select the device carrying the bowl sound, or select that device as the relevant input in OBS audio settings. Speak, strike or play the bowl at a representative level and watch for activity on the source’s meter.
- Set monitoring deliberately. If you listen to the input through OBS, use headphones and check that the monitored output is not being picked up again by the microphone. A feedback loop can create a loud ringing or echo. Test the complete path at a safe listening level.
- Balance the signal. Check for unwanted room noise, hum, distortion and clipping while playing the bowl as you intend to during the stream. Adjust the input gain on the interface, preamp or microphone path as appropriate; avoid turning up a noisy signal simply to make the meter look fuller.
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports external audio hardware such as microphones and preamps. The suitable microphone and placement for a crystal singing bowl are setup-dependent, so judge them by listening to a representative test rather than assuming that a particular model or position will work.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Set the title, visibility and other stream details for the broadcast. Choose public, unlisted or private visibility deliberately; visibility affects who can find or watch the stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose the YouTube service and enter the stream details. If OBS offers an account-connection option, you can use the workflow shown there; otherwise, use the URL and key provided for the stream.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in a screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement.
- Check the encoder settings. YouTube’s published guidance includes CBR, AAC or MP3 audio, and 44.1 kHz for stereo audio. Confirm the current OBS controls and YouTube’s stream-health feedback for the resolution, frame rate and network you actually use; do not assume one bitrate is suitable for every combination.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Click Start Streaming in OBS. Wait for the incoming preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room and confirm that both the bowl audio and the intended visual are present before starting the public broadcast.
- Verify the viewer experience. Check the channel or watch page, and if possible view it on a phone as well. Listen for the actual streamed sound rather than relying only on OBS’s local monitoring.
Test before you leave it running
Do a test with audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast. Let it run long enough to check that OBS is sending a stable feed and that YouTube reports acceptable stream health. A short test can reveal a missing input or a bad key, but it cannot establish that a setup will stay online for a full day.

- Check that the visual is correct, stable and permitted for use.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and investigate warnings before going public.
- If recording locally, confirm that the archive file is being created and continues to grow.
Keep the broadcast running and monitored
A 24/7 stream depends on the computer, capture hardware, power, internet connection and encoder remaining available. YouTube recommends monitoring stream quality and checking that local archive files are growing when you record. Those checks help you notice trouble; they do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or establish that any particular automatic restart scheme will recover every failure.
Reduce avoidable interruptions
- Keep OBS open and the computer awake while using the DIY setup. Review the operating system’s sleep and power settings for the machine you are using.
- Keep the audio input, camera if used, and network connection secured against accidental disconnection.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream-health status and the live viewer experience, including audio. Check periodically rather than assuming that a feed which started correctly is still healthy.
- For additional resilience, a UPS for the computer and network equipment is an optional consideration. It can provide backup power for some interruptions, but it does not prevent an internet outage or guarantee continuity.
Know the replay limits of a 24-hour stream
Do not count on YouTube to create a complete replay from one continuous 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR, which lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream, may also have limited range or be unavailable for very long streams, including streams over 12 hours.

If a replay matters, make a local recording and check that the file is growing during the broadcast. Plan how you will preserve and publish the recording, and verify the resulting file and YouTube archive rather than assuming either exists. A local backup is important because a long stream’s YouTube archive is not assured.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show an incoming preview | The channel is not enabled for live streaming, the encoder has not started, or OBS has incorrect stream details. | Confirm channel eligibility and activation, then compare the stream URL and key in OBS with the current values in YouTube Studio. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. |
| The preview appears, but there is no bowl sound | OBS may be using the wrong input, or the microphone, preamp or interface may not be passing signal. | Play the bowl and watch the correct OBS audio meter. Check the selected capture device, hardware connections and input level, then listen to the YouTube preview. |
| The sound is distorted, noisy or feeds back | The input may be clipping, picking up room noise, or being monitored through a path that feeds back into the microphone. | Listen with headphones, check the signal at a safe level, reduce excessive input gain and inspect the room and monitoring path. Retest the bowl at its normal playing level. |
| The stream has warnings or drops | The connection or encoder may not be sustaining the selected stream settings. | Review YouTube’s stream-health messages, confirm the current OBS settings for your chosen resolution and network, and test again. Do not assume an automatic restart or a single settings change guarantees recovery. |
| The stream ended or the computer stopped sending | A power, computer, network or encoder interruption may have stopped the feed. | Check which part of the setup lost service, restore it, and restart the encoder if needed. Consider backup power for local equipment, while recognizing that it cannot resolve every failure. |
| No complete replay appears after the stream | A continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. | Check the local recording if you made one. For future broadcasts, do not depend on YouTube’s automatic archive for a stream exceeding 12 hours. |
