You can run a bhajan live stream on YouTube from Windows by sending a video or audio-and-visual scene through an encoder such as OBS to YouTube Live Control Room. First enable live streaming and verify the channel at least 24 hours ahead if this is your first live stream, then confirm you have permission to use every recording. A PC-based setup can run continuously only while the computer, power, internet connection, encoder, and YouTube stream remain available; it is not an uninterrupted-service guarantee.
1. Check that your channel can go live
For a first-time music channel, YouTube for Artists advises enabling live streaming and verifying the account at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast. Do this before preparing a long-running stream, and check the channel’s Live Control Room for any access restrictions. Copyright enforcement or other channel restrictions can affect access to live streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and YouTube for Artists’ advice on live music.
2. Confirm rights to the bhajan recordings
A devotional song’s subject or traditional origins do not establish that a particular recording is free to use. Rights may apply separately to the composition, arrangement, performance, recording, and backing track. Use recordings you own or have permission to stream, and confirm that the permission covers continuous live streaming on YouTube.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace a stream with a placeholder and warn the creator to stop using detected content; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube Help states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A license may not prevent an automated interruption if the relevant rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Ask the owner or distributor about allowlisting where applicable. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using protected music. 3. Prepare the video and Windows encoder
Use OBS Studio, a free, open-source encoder, to send the selected media and scene to YouTube. Start with OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, which helps choose settings for the computer and connection, rather than assuming a resolution or bitrate will work on every Windows PC. Follow the OBS help portal and OBS streaming guide.
- Install and open OBS. Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard when prompted, or select it from the Tools menu. Choose the option to optimize for streaming and follow its prompts.
- Add your bhajan source. In the Sources panel, add the media source or sources for the recording and any visual you have rights to use. Preview the scene and check that the image is correctly framed and the audio is audible without clipping.
- Keep the PC ready for continuous operation. Connect it to reliable power and a stable internet connection. Prevent Windows from sleeping or shutting down during the intended broadcast, and avoid restarting or running updates that could interrupt OBS. A computer-based encoder cannot continue sending video when the PC, power, or connection stops.
- Choose a YouTube connection method. In OBS, use the YouTube account connection flow if available, or paste the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube before using it again.
4. Create and configure the YouTube live stream
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create the stream and enter its title, description, visibility, and other requested details. Select the appropriate stream type and audience setting for the channel and content.
- Copy the stream key securely. In the stream setup, copy the key and connect OBS using the account connection or key method. Confirm the selected YouTube server/ingest option if OBS requests one.
- Use YouTube’s encoder guidance. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Set rate control to constant bitrate (CBR) and the keyframe interval to two seconds; YouTube’s guidance says not to exceed four seconds. Select resolution and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder settings table and the actual upload capacity and computer performance. There is no universal bitrate or resolution suitable for every connection and machine.
- Wait for the preview and check stream health. Start streaming from OBS and check that Live Control Room receives the feed. Review its stream-health indicators and correct warnings before making the event public. YouTube’s current recommendations are in its encoder settings guide; labels or available options may change, so follow the current Live Control Room interface.
- Start the broadcast. When the preview, sound, title, visibility, and rights are all checked, start the live event in Live Control Room if required by the event setup.
5. Monitor the stream and understand its limits
Check the broadcast after it starts: confirm that viewers receive both picture and sound, review YouTube’s stream-health status, and periodically verify that OBS remains connected and the source has not ended or gone silent. A 24/7 schedule describes the intended duration, not a guarantee: Windows, OBS, the home network, power, or YouTube can interrupt service. YouTube’s API documentation describes a continuing 24/7 broadcast coexisting with a separate event broadcast on the same stream, but that is platform broadcast behavior—not a Windows watchdog or promise that OBS will reconnect and recover unattended. 6. Common problems and fixes
- Live streaming is unavailable: Enable the live feature and complete account verification ahead of time; check Live Control Room for channel restrictions. New music channels should allow at least 24 hours before the planned stream.
- YouTube does not receive OBS video: Recheck the selected YouTube connection or stream key, confirm OBS is streaming, and inspect Live Control Room for ingest or stream-health errors. If you exposed the key, reset it and update OBS.
- The feed buffers or reports poor health: Recheck the upload connection and computer load. Use YouTube’s current bitrate guidance and lower the chosen resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it; validate the revised settings in Live Control Room.
- Audio or video is missing: Check the source’s visibility and playback state in OBS, then inspect its audio meter and output. Confirm the live preview before leaving the stream unattended.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Stop using the matched material and resolve the rights issue. If you have permission, contact the rights owner or distributor about Content ID allowlisting; possession of a license does not itself guarantee that YouTube’s detection will not interrupt the stream.
- The PC or connection goes offline: Restore power, internet, and OBS, then check Live Control Room before restarting the event. Do not assume the setup will resume automatically after an outage.
