That does not guarantee a live broadcast: OBS still needs the right stream settings, a working network connection and a successful connection to YouTube. Test the complete recovery path before relying on it.
What automatic restart can—and cannot—do
OBS officially supports --startstreaming as a launch parameter. On Windows, you can add it to an OBS shortcut and have that shortcut launched at startup, or configure a scheduled task to launch OBS. OBS’s instructions say automated or scheduled launches should use the folder containing obs64.exe as the working directory. OBS Launch Parameters
This workflow asks OBS to start streaming when it opens; it does not establish that a stream is live. Windows must reach the relevant launch trigger, OBS must load the intended configuration, and the network and YouTube connection must be ready. In a discussion about a Windows 11 24/7 stream, an OBS forum user specifically noted that OBS might launch before network equipment is ready after a power outage. OBS forum discussion
Do not assume that a Windows update will restart at a convenient time, that OBS will run before anyone signs in, or that opening OBS proves the broadcast resumed. Windows behavior can depend on the machine’s configuration; the sources here do not establish version-specific update controls or unattended-account requirements.

Prepare OBS before configuring Windows
Confirm the stream configuration
In OBS, open Settings > Stream and verify the intended service, server and stream key. The OBS overview guide describes these as the stream configuration settings. Make sure the scene and profile you expect are saved, too; a successful launch with the wrong scene or service is not a successful recovery. OBS Studio Overview Guide
Check automatic reconnect
Open Settings > Advanced and review the automatic reconnect option. OBS identifies automatic reconnect as an Advanced setting, but the available documentation does not establish that it will recover every interruption or network failure. Make a shortcut that starts streaming

Open the shortcut’s properties and find the Target field. Add a space after the closing quotation mark of the executable path, then append
--startstreaming. The target should follow this pattern:"C:pathtoobs64.exe" --startstreaming. Keep the actual executable path from your installation.Quick wins for a faster PC:

If you want OBS to open minimized to the system tray, you can also use
--minimize-to-tray. Use it only if the tray icon is enabled and you want the application hidden; it is not needed to start streaming. -
Apply the change and launch the shortcut manually once. Check that OBS opens with the expected configuration and attempts to start streaming.

Choose how Windows launches the shortcut
Startup shortcut
Placing the configured shortcut in the Windows startup workflow is the simpler pattern when launching OBS after a user signs in is sufficient. It is tied to that sign-in flow, so do not assume it will launch OBS before sign-in. OBS’s launch-parameter instructions cover using a Windows shortcut; the exact Startup-folder steps can differ across Windows versions and configurations.
Task Scheduler
A scheduled task is another way to launch the configured shortcut or OBS executable, and can offer more control over when a launch is attempted. For an automated or scheduled OBS launch, set the task’s Start in or working-directory field to the folder containing obs64.exe. OBS calls out this working-directory requirement in its launch instructions. The OBS forum community also discusses Task Scheduler for restart scenarios, but that is community advice rather than official Windows guidance. OBS Launch Parameters · OBS forum discussion

The sources do not establish the exact Windows task trigger, account, or sign-in settings for every Windows edition. Configure those according to the Windows version and account setup on the streaming PC; do not assume a task can run unattended under your current configuration.

Configure your chosen Windows startup or scheduled launch pattern, including the OBS working directory if using a scheduled or automated launch.

Perform a controlled reboot and observe the actual trigger: whether and when Windows launches OBS, which configuration opens, and whether OBS connects.

Check YouTube itself to confirm that the broadcast is reported live. An OBS window opening—or showing an attempted connection—is not confirmation of a live broadcast.

If a power outage could leave your router or modem starting more slowly than the PC, test with the network delayed as well. A launch that works on a normal reboot may fail when the network is not ready.

Troubleshoot a failed restart
