Short answer: XSplit’s current help documentation does not describe a universal setting that automatically restarts every Broadcaster stream after a disconnect. Recovery can depend on the output plugin and destination. Check the specific output’s settings, connection and platform status before assuming an automatic restart is available. On Twitch, Disconnect Protection gives viewers a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds; it is a platform-side grace period, not an XSplit auto-restart command.
What XSplit documents about automatic recovery
XSplit’s Output Plugin Properties guide explains output configuration, bandwidth testing, encoding settings and network-adapter selection. It also notes that available properties vary by streaming service, and some settings may be locked or overridden for compatibility. The guide does not identify one automatic-restart control that applies to all outputs.
The Getting Started with XSplit Broadcaster instructions describe selecting an output and clicking Stream to start. They do not explain how every output behaves after a disconnect. That does not rule out reconnect behavior in a particular version or plugin; it means you should verify the exact output rather than expect a universal switch.
Check the output and diagnose the interruption
- Identify the destination and output plugin. In Broadcaster, open the properties for the output you use and check which controls it exposes. Do not assume settings available for one service also exist for another; XSplit says output properties vary by service. If the plugin provides a reconnect option, follow its own description and confirm the behavior with that destination.
- Check the connection against your selected bitrate. In the output’s Channel settings, run Test bandwidth if available. XSplit says this can help confirm whether the connection can support the selected bitrate. Compare the result with the destination’s current requirements. Higher bitrate needs more upload capacity; a successful test does not guarantee protection from intermittent outages.
- Review the network adapter. If the computer has multiple adapters, inspect Network Connection. XSplit’s guidance is to leave it at Let the system decide for most users. Select a specific adapter only when you have a reason to use it, such as diagnosing which connection the output is using.
- Check both XSplit and the platform after a drop. Note whether Broadcaster says it is reconnecting, has stopped, or shows another status, and whether the destination still considers the event live. This helps distinguish a local connection problem from an output or platform issue.
- Record details before changing unrelated settings. Note your Broadcaster version, output plugin, destination, exact status or error, and whether a reconnect attempt is shown. Provide those details to XSplit or platform support. The reviewed documentation does not establish one manual restart sequence for every plugin and platform combination.
If you stream to Twitch: understand Disconnect Protection
Twitch Disconnect Protection is a Twitch-side feature, and Twitch lists XSplit as supported. Twitch says viewers may see a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds while the streamer troubleshoots and reconnects. Check whether it is enabled in Twitch’s Stream Settings.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This window is for the viewer experience. It does not restart Broadcaster or establish that XSplit will reconnect automatically. Use it as time to restore the connection and check the output, not as a replacement for diagnosing why the stream dropped.
Choose the next step based on what failed
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The connection test does not support the selected bitrate, or the uplink is unstable. | Compare the bitrate with the destination’s current recommendations and available upload capacity. Treat a lower bitrate as a diagnostic option, not a guarantee against outages. |
| Broadcaster shows a reconnect attempt, but the platform’s status is unclear. | Check whether the platform still considers the event live and whether it offers a viewer grace period. Do not confuse that platform status with encoder recovery. |
| The issue appears only on one destination. | Inspect that destination’s output plugin properties; XSplit says controls can differ and may be locked or overridden. |
| Broadcaster stops, or no reconnect attempt is visible. | Capture the version, plugin, destination and status or error, then consult the relevant support team. The reviewed official guides do not provide a universal restart sequence. |
For reference, XSplit’s Output Plugin Properties page, updated June 25, 2026, says bandwidth testing “can help you confirm if your current connection can support your selected bitrate before starting your stream.” That describes a connection check before streaming, not a promise of automatic recovery.
