Streamlabs Desktop’s connection recovery and YouTube’s auto-start setting do not relaunch Streamlabs after the application crashes. For a dropped connection while the app is still open, address the connection; for an app crash, you need a separately configured operating-system process supervisor to relaunch it. YouTube auto-start may then let a returning encoder feed start the selected broadcast, depending on that event’s settings. These are separate recovery steps, and they do not guarantee that the original live session will resume intact.
First identify what stopped
“The stream stopped” can describe three different failures. Check both Streamlabs Desktop and YouTube Live Control Room before changing settings:
| What happened | What can help | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| The network connection dropped, but Streamlabs Desktop is still running. | Restore the connection and troubleshoot Streamlabs’ connection or go-live settings. | Connection recovery cannot reopen Streamlabs if its process has exited. |
| Streamlabs Desktop crashed or closed. | A separately configured process supervisor can be used to relaunch the application when it exits. | YouTube settings do not launch the desktop application. |
| The encoder feed returned, but the YouTube broadcast did not start. | Check auto-start on the specific YouTube event you intend to use. | Auto-start does not restart Streamlabs or guarantee recovery of the previous session. |
Set up YouTube so a returning encoder feed can start the event
YouTube Live Control Room has Auto-start and Auto-stop settings. YouTube describes the behavior this way: “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” Auto-start controls YouTube’s response to an encoder feed; it is not an application watchdog.
- Open the YouTube event you plan to use in Live Control Room.
- Check that event’s live-stream settings and enable Auto-start if you want the encoder feed to start the broadcast. Review Auto-stop separately: it controls whether YouTube stops the broadcast when the encoder stops.
- Confirm that Streamlabs is configured to send its feed to the intended event. Settings may differ between events; do not assume the event you reuse has the same controls as another one.
Streamlabs documents two YouTube launch flows: sign in to YouTube in Streamlabs Desktop and use its Go Live flow to create an event, or create an event in the YouTube dashboard and select it in Streamlabs Desktop’s Go Live window, then confirm. A scheduled or reused event should be checked directly in Live Control Room.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For an application crash, configure a separate relaunch layer
If Streamlabs Desktop actually exits, an operating-system process supervisor is the general mechanism that can detect an exited process and start it again. It must be configured separately from Streamlabs and YouTube. The available Streamlabs guidance does not establish a supported, Streamlabs-specific supervisor recipe or launch command, so use documentation for your operating system or supervisor rather than assuming a particular command line will work.
- Choose a supervisor that can watch for a process exit and relaunch an application.
- Configure it to launch Streamlabs Desktop using the normal application entry point for your installation. Do not assume unverified command-line arguments will restore a session.
- Decide how you will handle sign-in prompts, update dialogs, and other windows that could prevent the app from starting unattended.
- After a relaunch, check Streamlabs’ connection and live status, then check Live Control Room to confirm whether the intended event is receiving a feed and is live. Do not infer that the broadcast resumed merely because the application reopened.
A supervisor only addresses the application process. It does not repair a failed internet connection, select the right YouTube event, or prove that viewers can see a live broadcast.

Use Streamlabs troubleshooting for go-live failures, not as crash automation
Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guidance suggests checking the stream key, signing out and back in, running the application as administrator, and reviewing selected output or connection settings for certain go-live problems. These steps may help with launch or connection trouble, but they are not an automatic crash-restart feature.
Do not routinely clear Streamlabs data as a restart fix. Streamlabs’ getting-started guidance says clearing cache and restarting wipes user data to start fresh; its support repository warns that deleting user data can require signing in again and rebuilding settings and scene collections. Treat data clearing as a last resort, and understand the configuration loss before proceeding.

Common recovery problems
- Streamlabs reopened, but the broadcast is not live: Check the selected YouTube event, its Auto-start setting, and the encoder’s status in Live Control Room.
- YouTube stopped after Streamlabs stopped: Review Auto-stop on that event. It governs YouTube’s reaction to the encoder stopping; it does not prevent a process crash.
- The feed did not return after relaunch: Check Streamlabs’ sign-in, stream key, output and connection settings. A relaunch cannot by itself restore an internet connection or validate the event configuration.
- A proposed fix involves deleting user data: Pause and preserve what you need first. Clearing data may remove scenes and settings and require you to sign in again.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your YouTube channel runs uploaded, prerecorded videos rather than a live camera or capture feed, StreamNeo is a different way to keep that kind of stream running: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not restart Streamlabs or stream from a camera.
