To reopen a meditation app after a Windows update, enable it to start when you sign in to Windows. That only launches the app: whether it signs you back in, restores the stream, and resumes playback depends on the meditation service’s own settings.
Set the meditation app to start when you sign in
These options apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11; wording and layout can vary by version. First, save your work and make sure you know the app’s sign-in details in case it asks you to authenticate again.
- Check Startup settings: Open Settings > Apps > Startup. Find the meditation app and switch it on if it appears.
- Check Task Manager: If you do not see the app in Settings, open Task Manager > Startup apps. Enable the app if it is listed there.
- If it is not listed, add a shortcut: Open File Explorer, enter
shell:appsfolderin the address bar, and press Enter. Locate the app and create a shortcut. Then entershell:startupin File Explorer’s address bar and place the shortcut in the folder that opens. The shortcut applies to the current Windows user. To have it start for every user on the device, useshell:common startupinstead.

Check whether the stream itself resumes
Starting an app is not the same as restarting playback. Windows’ Startup controls do not establish that a meditation service will sign you in automatically, reopen a particular stream, or return to the same playback position. Look in the service’s settings for options such as launch at sign-in, autoplay, or resume session, and check its help pages if the labels differ. If the service does not support session restoration, you may need to start the stream manually after signing in.

Reduce interruptions from update restarts
Windows Update settings can help you choose a less disruptive time, but they cannot guarantee that an update will never interrupt listening. Set Windows active hours to reflect when you use the PC, or schedule a restart for a convenient time when Windows offers that option. Microsoft says Windows tries to restart outside active hours where possible; updates can still require a restart. See Microsoft’s active hours guidance and Windows Update FAQ.
Microsoft’s August 14, 2026 notice says updates released on and after July 28, 2026 are combined for one monthly restart on Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1. Rollout is gradual, so this behavior may not yet be available on every device. Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025, according to Microsoft’s current Windows Update FAQ. Troubleshoot if playback does not return
- The app does not open: Confirm it is enabled under Settings > Apps > Startup or Task Manager > Startup apps. If absent, check that the shortcut is in the current user’s Startup folder, or the common Startup folder if it should apply to all users.
- The app opens but asks you to sign in: Sign in again. Windows startup does not guarantee that the meditation service will restore authentication.
- The app opens but remains idle: Look for the service’s autoplay or session-resume setting. If it has no such option, launch the stream manually.
- An update restarts the PC during listening: Adjust active hours or schedule the restart for a more suitable time. These settings reduce the chance of an inconvenient restart; they do not prevent every required restart.
