You can rebroadcast a saved League of Legends ranked match by opening its replay in a compatible League client, capturing playback with a streaming encoder, and sending that feed to a YouTube Live event. First test that the archive opens: compatibility depends on the particular match file and the client version available to you. Label the event clearly as an archived match, keep it under 12 hours, and make a local recording in case YouTube does not preserve the stream.
Before you start: check the replay and your rights
Test the actual match archive
Open the League client and try to load the saved match replay. Whether an older ranked-match archive will open depends on that file and the game-client version available to you; the official documentation does not establish compatibility for a particular archive. Confirm playback before scheduling a broadcast, and do not assume that every archived match remains playable after client updates.
Check the material in your broadcast
Make sure you have appropriate rights to the material you rebroadcast, including any third-party audio or overlays. Whether a particular archive or its contents are cleared cannot be determined from the fact that it is a League replay. If you are unsure about a specific element, resolve that before making the stream public.
Choose a playback route
| Route | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Play the replay in the League client and capture its presentation with an encoder | A straightforward rerun with a scheduled YouTube event and live chat | The replay must open in the available client, and you must manage the client and encoder during the event. The cited YouTube guides do not prescribe a specific capture configuration. |
| Use Riot’s Replay API, then send the output through an encoder | Automated playback or more control over camera movement and recording | It requires local technical configuration and is disabled by default. Riot documents playback state and seeking, render controls, video recording, and keyframe sequences. Riot’s League of Legends developer documentation explains the available controls. |
For most creators, start with client playback and capture. The Replay API is an optional control path, not a requirement for broadcasting a replay.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up the YouTube Live event and encoder
- Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio. Set its title, description, thumbnail, visibility, schedule, and chat or moderation choices. YouTube’s live production guide describes the encoder workflow: create or schedule a broadcast, copy its stream key into the encoder, start the encoder feed, wait for the preview, and then select Go Live.
- Identify the stream as an archive. Say plainly in the title or description that viewers are watching a replay of a past ranked match. A rerun is not the original match happening in real time; YouTube distinguishes live streams from replays available after streams end. If you want a community viewing of a prerecorded video rather than a live broadcast, consider a YouTube Premiere, which presents a new video for viewers to watch together in real time.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. Use the key for the broadcast you created or scheduled. Treat it as a credential: do not show or share it. Google explains that the broadcast is the event/video, while the stream carries the audio-video feed; recurring broadcasts can reuse stream settings. See Google’s explanation of YouTube Live broadcasts and streams.
- Start the replay and capture it. Open the match in the League client, set the view you intend to show, and start playback. Configure your encoder to capture the game presentation and send audio and video to YouTube. Exact capture controls depend on the encoder and operating system; the cited official YouTube pages do not specify a universal resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, or scene setup for this League replay workflow.
- Start the encoder feed and check the preview. Once YouTube receives the feed, inspect the preview for visible gameplay and audible sound. Then select Go Live in YouTube Studio. The feed must reach YouTube before you start the broadcast.
During the broadcast: DVR and archive length
Enable DVR if viewers should be able to pause or rewind
YouTube’s DVR option lets viewers pause or rewind within the ongoing stream, but they cannot seek to a point before the stream began. DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Keep the event under 12 hours and save a local copy
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep this rerun below that limit if you want the platform archive and record a local backup. The automatic archive is not a guarantee that every event will be preserved. See YouTube’s live archive guidance.

After the stream
Check YouTube Studio’s Live content for the archived broadcast. Confirm that the video is present, then adjust its visibility and details if needed. If YouTube did not preserve it, use your local recording as the backup.
Common problems and fixes
- The replay will not load: The archive may not be compatible with the League client version you have. Test the actual file before planning the broadcast; official documentation does not settle compatibility for a specific archive.
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Confirm that the encoder is using the stream key for the correct scheduled or created event and that its feed has started. Wait for the preview before selecting Go Live.
- The preview appears but gameplay or sound is missing: Check that the encoder is capturing the game presentation and its intended audio source. The exact capture settings depend on your encoder and system.
- Viewers cannot rewind: Check whether DVR is enabled. Viewers cannot rewind to before the live stream began, and DVR support may be limited on streams longer than 12 hours.
- The replay is missing after the event: Check Live content in YouTube Studio and your local recording. YouTube’s automatic archiving applies to streams under 12 hours as a capability, not a guarantee; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos rather than manually run a League replay through the game client, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; every quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
