YouTube’s own repeat controls are for viewers watching videos and playlists; they are not a documented creator-side setting for selectively repeating items in a live broadcast.
What YouTube’s repeat button does—and does not do
YouTube Help documents playlist looping as a viewer playback control. On a computer, viewers can loop a playlist from its playlist box. On Android, a viewer can loop a playlist and tap the loop control again to repeat only the current video. Neither instruction establishes a control for a creator to choose which items repeat in a YouTube Live broadcast. See YouTube’s computer instructions and Android instructions.
For creator-controlled live output, use a playlist-capable media source in your streaming setup. The supported OBS workflow described here uses local files, not a YouTube playlist URL.
Set up a selected-video rotation in OBS
1. Prepare the files and software
- Obtain local video files that you have the right to stream. Keep only the videos you want in this rotation readily available.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video Source depends on VLC being installed; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

2. Add only the videos you want to repeat
- In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene you intend to stream.
- In that source’s playlist, add the local media files you want included. Do not add files that should be excluded from the rotation.
- Arrange the files in the order you want them to play.
The VLC source uses media files. The cited OBS documentation does not establish that you can paste a YouTube playlist URL there and have it drive the live rotation.
3. Set the rotation behavior
- Shuffle Playlist: off. Items play in the listed order instead of being randomized.
- Loop Playlist: on. When the source reaches the end of its media files, it starts the sequence again.
These settings control which files play and in what order. To change the rotation later, edit the source playlist: add, remove, or reorder files as needed.

4. Send OBS output to YouTube and test it
Connect OBS to the intended YouTube Live broadcast using your usual streaming setup. Adding a VLC Video Source configures media playback; it does not, by itself, configure or start the YouTube broadcast.
- Before relying on the rotation, run through the full sequence and confirm that the intended files play in order and that the final item returns to the first.
- Check the live connection as well as playback. A successful media loop does not keep the computer, OBS, network connection, or YouTube broadcast running if one of them stops.

The first option changes what a viewer watches. The second changes the media sent by your live setup. They solve different problems.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC and restart or reopen OBS. If you use 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Unwanted videos appear: Remove them from the VLC source playlist. The rotation is based on the files in that source, not a viewer’s YouTube playlist.
- The videos play in a different order each time: Turn off Shuffle Playlist and arrange the files in the desired sequence.
- The sequence stops at the last file: Turn on Loop Playlist so the source restarts after reaching the end.
- The source loops but the live stream stops: Looping media does not recover a failed computer, OBS session, network connection, or broadcast. Check each part of the streaming setup; the playlist setting addresses media playback only.
- A YouTube playlist URL does not work as the source: This workflow is for local media files. The OBS documentation cited here does not support claiming that a YouTube playlist URL can be used for this rotation.
