Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo lower the cost of a 24/7 YouTube stream on DigitalOcean, measure both your Droplet’s CPU, memory and disk use and your team’s pooled outbound transfer. Then choose the smallest configuration that reliably handles your encoder settings and workload. Don’t assume powering a Droplet off stops its compute charge, and don’t cut bitrate or resources so far that the stream becomes unstable.
Find out what is driving the bill
There are two main costs to examine: the Droplet itself and outbound data transfer. DigitalOcean pools included transfer across a team’s Droplets, so the stream’s transfer use shares an allowance with other Droplets on that team. Inbound transfer is free; excess outbound transfer is currently $0.01 per GiB. Check the [DigitalOcean billing page](https://docs.digitalocean.com/platform/billing/bandwidth/) for usage and daily projections, and the [Droplet pricing documentation](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/details/pricing/) for the plan’s included transfer and billing terms. The transfer allowance does not roll over month to month.
- Open the DigitalOcean billing view and note team transfer used, projected usage and current Droplet charges.
- Record CPU, memory and disk use while the stream is running under representative conditions. Use DigitalOcean monitoring and alerts rather than choosing a smaller plan by guesswork; its [plan-selection guidance](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/concepts/choosing-a-plan/) cautions that excess capacity costs more, while insufficient capacity can degrade performance or fail.
- In your encoder, check the stream’s resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate. Compare the bitrate with your actual audience and quality needs.
Estimate how much transfer your stream uses
A continuous stream’s bitrate is a useful starting point for estimating outbound transfer. Multiply megabits per second by the number of seconds streamed, then divide by eight to estimate megabytes. Convert that result into the units you want to compare, and allow for audio, protocol overhead, reconnects and differences between decimal terabytes and billed GiB.
For example, a steady 5 Mbps stream for 30 days sends about 202,500 megabytes: roughly 1.62 decimal TB, or 1,507 GiB before overhead. This is arithmetic based on the selected bitrate, not a published benchmark or a bill quote. Check DigitalOcean’s actual usage because other Droplets on the team also draw from the pooled allowance.

Match bitrate to the stream you need
Bitrate is a major lever on transfer use. YouTube’s current [live encoder settings](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?hl=en), accessed 3 October 2026, recommend 5 Mbps for H.264 1080p30 and 14 Mbps for H.264 1080p60. Those are recommendations for those specific codec, resolution and frame-rate combinations, not universal settings for every stream.
YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265 or AV1 options. Its guidance recommends CBR, up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. YouTube transcodes live streams into viewer output formats, so assess the encoder settings for the incoming stream rather than assuming every viewer receives the same bitrate. See YouTube’s [encoder settings](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?hl=en) and [streaming tips](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853856?hl=en).

Lowering bitrate can reduce transfer, but it also changes the incoming stream quality. Test with representative audio and movement, then inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages. YouTube advises: “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” Apply that headroom to your available network capacity rather than setting the connection limit equal to the stream bitrate.
Choose a smaller Droplet only when measurements support it
Compare plans using sustained CPU performance, memory headroom, disk constraints, monthly price and included outbound transfer—not the advertised monthly price alone. A cheaper plan may bring less transfer or fail to handle the stream workload. Prices and configurations can change, so confirm the current [DigitalOcean pricing catalog](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/details/pricing/) before making a decision.

Understand the resize limits and interruption
DigitalOcean offers CPU-and-memory-only resize options as well as options that include disk changes. Disk capacity can limit your target: DigitalOcean says a Droplet cannot simply be resized to a smaller plan and recommends migration where needed. Its [resize guide](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/droplets/how-to/resize/) requires powering off for the control-panel procedure and recommends a graceful shutdown. Plan for the interruption or arrange failover before starting; a 24/7 stream will not continue from a Droplet that is powered off.

Powering off is not a billing workaround
For bundled CPU Droplets, DigitalOcean says billing begins at creation and ends at destruction; resources remain reserved and billable while powered off. The documented billing is per second with a 60-second or $0.01 minimum and a monthly cap of 672 hours (28 days). Destroying a Droplet ends its compute charge, but make sure you have preserved anything you need and account for separately retained resources such as backups or snapshots, which DigitalOcean prices separately.

- Before changing plans or bitrate, record the current resource use, team transfer use and YouTube stream-health status.
- Apply one change at a time where practical, and schedule a resize around the required shutdown and stream interruption.
- Run a representative test with the actual resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, audio and content movement you expect to stream.
- After the change, monitor Droplet resources, billing transfer and YouTube stream health. Keep sufficient capacity for reliable operation rather than optimizing only for the lowest displayed plan price.
Or let it run in the cloud
If managing a Droplet, encoder and stream recovery is more work than you want, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos or playlists as a 24/7 live stream. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and monthly billing is available: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
