To use fewer bytes when uploading a video to Gyre, make the video file smaller before you upload it. To protect your mobile data allowance, upload over Wi-Fi or broadband instead. Wi-Fi changes which connection carries the transfer; it does not reduce the file’s size or the total data sent.
What determines the data used by a Gyre upload?
The upload transfers the video file you provide, so its size is the most useful figure for estimating the data required. A smaller file sends fewer bytes. Resolution, video bitrate and frame rate can all affect file size, though reducing them can also reduce detail or smoothness.
Gyre says video files must be uploaded to Gyre storage to create a stream, including videos that were previously uploaded to YouTube and videos in an existing playlist. A YouTube upload or playlist does not bypass the upload to Gyre.
Reduce the file size before uploading
Use Gyre’s Video Converter
- Sign in to your Gyre account and open the Video Converter.
- Select the video file you want to prepare.
- Choose Optimization and review the parameters shown for the output.
- Select 30 or 60 fps, as appropriate for your content.
- Start optimization, then check the resulting file size before uploading it to Gyre.
Gyre’s converter workflow gives you an account-side way to optimize a video. The available guidance does not promise a fixed percentage reduction; the result depends on the source file and chosen output settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose smaller export settings when they still suit the video
Gyre’s preparation guidance lists 1280×720 or 1920×1080 resolution, H.264 video, a 3,072–6,144 kbps video bitrate, 128 kbps audio and 30 fps for the HD/full-HD live-stream requirements it describes. These are published preparation targets, not a requirement to use the highest listed bitrate for every video. A lower bitrate may create a smaller file, but can make compression more visible, especially in detailed or fast-moving scenes.
- Resolution: Export at a lower resolution if the extra detail is not important for your stream. Lower resolution usually reduces the amount of picture information being encoded.
- Video bitrate: Try a lower bitrate within a setting suitable for your intended quality. The lower the bitrate, the fewer bits are available to represent each second of video.
- Frame rate: If the source has more frames per second than the stream needs, reducing the frame rate may shrink the file. Motion may look less smooth, particularly in fast action.
- Audio: Gyre’s guidance lists 128 kbps audio. If your encoding workflow lets you adjust audio settings, weigh any reduction against the sound quality you need.
There is no single export setting that is best for every source. Make a short sample with the intended settings, compare its file size and appearance with the original, and use the full-length export only if the quality is acceptable. Gyre does not publish a guaranteed data-saving amount for a particular conversion.

Use Wi-Fi or broadband to avoid using your mobile allowance
If your main concern is mobile data, connect the device carrying the upload to Wi-Fi or a fixed broadband connection before starting. This can keep the transfer off your mobile allowance, but it does not make the file smaller or reduce the total bytes Gyre receives. Compare connections on both allowance impact and reliability: a stable connection matters for completing a large upload.
Why Jio’s video data estimates do not predict upload size
Jio lists estimated streaming use of up to 0.3 GB per hour at low quality, 0.7 GB per hour at medium, 1 GB per hour at high, 3 GB per hour at HD and 7 GB per hour at Ultra HD. Jio does not state a publication year on the cited page and cautions that actual streaming use varies by app or website. These estimates describe watching video, not uploading a file to Gyre, so they should not be used to calculate an individual upload’s data use.

The general comparison still holds: higher-resolution video streaming tends to consume more data. But for a file upload, use the prepared file’s size as your practical estimate—not an hourly streaming figure. Jio also recommends managing quality in individual apps for streaming; that advice concerns playback settings, not Gyre upload compression.
Check the file and connection before you start
- Confirm that the optimized export is the version you intend to upload and note its file size.
- Use Wi-Fi or broadband if you want to preserve a mobile allowance.
- Allow enough time for the transfer; a smaller file sends fewer bytes, but upload duration also depends on the connection’s upload speed and stability.
- Keep the Gyre upload requirement in mind even if the video is already on YouTube or included in a playlist.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the real goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube channel live rather than to store and stream the video through Gyre, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera.
