There is no reliable single monthly price for an Indian creator without the AWS Region and channel configuration: MediaLive prices vary by Region, and the available public examples are not an India quote.
What actually generates MediaLive charges?
AWS says there is no separate running-channel fee; charges come from the channel’s inputs and configured outputs. The important catch is that stopped does not always mean free. AWS’s MediaLive pricing documentation describes charges according to channel and resource state.
- A non-running channel can still incur idle charges for its inputs and outputs.
- An idle push input can be charged when it is unattached or attached to a channel that is not running. Idle pull inputs have no idle charge.
- While a channel is running, every attached input is charged, even if it is inactive or receiving no content.
- Every configured output on a running channel is charged, even if that output is paused.
These rules make schedules, unused push inputs, and obsolete output configurations worthwhile first checks—not just the hours when viewers can watch the stream.
1. Reduce scheduled hours and clean up idle resources
Count the hours your channel really runs
List the planned monthly hours, including rehearsals, encoder tests, and any accidental run time. Compare those hours with the actual channel schedule and billing period. If a channel only needs to be live for a programme or event, schedule it for that window rather than leaving it running between broadcasts.

- 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). Beats both Intel chips hugely in multi-core, making heavy multitasking, coding, data work smooth at just 15W TDP. High-end power in a cool, efficient box.
- 【AMD Radeon Graphics】– Triple 4K Vision & Fluidity,The integrated Radeon Graphics (based on the modern Vega architecture with 6 CUs) is a visual beast, outclassing the iGPU offerings from both AMD's prior generation and Intel. The Intel UHD Graphics (i3-10110U/N95) struggles with single-channel memory and low execution units, crippling its gaming performance and barely handling basic 4K video without stuttering. While the older Radeon Vega 5 (4300U) was decent, our 7330U's Radeon Graphics (6 CUs) pushes the boundaries, delivering higher graphics clock speeds (up to 1.8GHz) and significantly better rendering capabilities. It can drive triple 4K@60Hz displays with zero lag, edit photos/videos.

- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
Check inputs and outputs after each event
- Stop the channel when the broadcast is over.
- Review attached and unattached push inputs, including inputs left from one-off events. Remove resources you no longer need.
- Review every configured output. Delete obsolete outputs rather than merely pausing them if they will not be used again.
- Check the next event’s start and stop schedule so tests or accidental run time do not become recurring usage.
Do not treat a stopped channel as proof that every related resource is free. In particular, check for idle push inputs and channel inputs and outputs that can still incur charges in the non-running state.
2. Match the input specification to the source
For an AWS Cloud deployment (rather than MediaLive Anywhere), review the input specification against the actual source’s codec, resolution, and maximum bitrate. AWS uses this specification both for billing and to allocate processing resources. The MediaLive input specification guidance explains the categories and selection rules.
- Choose categories that meet or exceed the source requirements; do not understate them just to seek a lower charge.
- For multiple inputs, use the most demanding codec, highest resolution tier, and highest bitrate among them.
- AWS’s documented codec processing order is MPEG-2, then AVC, then HEVC.
An unnecessarily high category may put you in a more expensive input tier than the content needs. An underspecified input can leave MediaLive without enough resources and degrade output. Recheck the specification when the source format changes.

3. Audit outputs and remove renditions you do not need
Output charges add up across outputs. AWS prices outputs according to characteristics including codec, resolution, bitrate, and frame rate; each configured output on a running channel matters, including a paused one. Inventory every rendition and destination, then ask whether it serves a real distribution, recording, or other workflow need.
- Remove duplicate destinations or old renditions that are no longer part of the workflow.
- Review SD and HD versions and frame rates against actual delivery requirements.
- Check specialized outputs individually instead of assuming they are free when paused.
If YouTube is the only destination, consider whether one contribution feed is sufficient for your architecture. YouTube says it transcodes incoming live video into viewer formats, so extra MediaLive renditions need a specific reason. Multiple outputs may still be appropriate for other destinations, workflows, or latency requirements.
4. Set the YouTube contribution stream to the show’s needs
Choose a resolution and frame rate that match the source and the quality you want to deliver, then use YouTube’s corresponding encoder guidance rather than sending an unnecessarily large contribution. The current YouTube encoder settings guide recommends H.264 at 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 3 Mbps for 720p30. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and RTMPS. MediaLive’s RTMP/RTMPS output supports H.264 video and AAC audio.

These YouTube recommendations and MediaLive’s billing configuration are separate checks. A lower bitrate alone does not necessarily reduce the MediaLive price in every setup: billing can depend on configured output attributes, and the chosen rate control must still produce acceptable quality.
Consider rate control without assuming a guaranteed saving
AWS describes quality-defined variable bitrate (QVBR) as targeting a quality level and using only the bitrate needed up to a maximum. Visually complex material may need more bitrate to maintain that quality. AWS also documents that bitrate fields can affect output charges. See AWS’s MediaLive rate-control guidance for the relevant configuration details.
QVBR or VBR may suit a compatible workflow, but YouTube’s opened encoder guide recommends CBR. Before changing a production configuration, test representative movement and audio, and confirm stream health and the resulting viewer experience. Do not assume a different rate-control mode is automatically cheaper or suitable for your YouTube ingest.

5. Choose channel class based on interruption risk
A single-pipeline channel runs one processing pipeline in one Availability Zone. A standard channel runs two pipelines in different Availability Zones and provides increased resiliency. AWS says a standard channel costs less than two identical single-pipeline channels; that comparison does not mean it costs less than one single-pipeline channel. See AWS’s channel-pipeline documentation.
Choose between them as a resilience decision as well as a cost decision. A single pipeline avoids the extra redundancy of two pipelines, but it is not equivalent in resiliency. Use it only if your production can tolerate the associated interruption risk; do not switch channel class solely because the channel is small.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Consider reservations only when usage is sustained
AWS advertises savings of up to 75% with a 12-month usage commitment for qualifying channel usage above 180 hours per month. This is AWS’s stated maximum, not a guaranteed saving for an individual channel. Reservations have to match usage attributes and Region: input reservations match codec, resolution range, bitrate range, and Region; output reservations also match frame-rate range. See AWS Elemental MediaLive pricing for current terms.

Before committing, compare expected matching usage and the committed charges over the full term with on-demand usage. Irregular event streams may not use a reservation enough to justify its commitment. Channel size alone does not determine whether one makes sense; sustained hours and an accurate attribute match do.
Build a bill review worksheet before estimating savings
Collect the following details from the MediaLive configuration and AWS billing data before calculating a monthly estimate:
- AWS Region and channel class.
- Monthly start/stop schedule and actual running hours.
- Input count and type, codec, resolution, and maximum bitrate.
- For every output: destination, codec, resolution, bitrate, and frame rate.
- Enabled add-on features and any active reservation terms.
AWS billing usage types identify dimensions such as Region, input or output direction, codec, resolution, bitrate tier, frame-rate tier, video quality, and reservation marker. Use these to find likely cost drivers, then compare the billing categories with the live configuration; see AWS’s MediaLive usage-type reference.
The AWS pricing page’s visible examples use US East (N. Virginia) and are illustrative configurations, not an India estimate. Your physical location does not by itself identify the MediaLive Region. Use the selected Region’s current prices and your own workload; no monthly INR figure is supportable without those details.
