To keep music in your Twitch live mix but out of the VOD, connect your Twitch account in OBS, enable the Twitch VOD Track option, then include the music source on track 1 and leave it off track 2. OBS uses track 1 for the live feed and track 2 for the VOD by default. Local multi-track recording is a separate setup: it uses recording tracks you enable in Output for editing later.
Choose the audio result you need
- Different live and VOD mixes: Use Twitch VOD Track when a source should be heard live but excluded from the VOD, such as music. Tracks 1 and 2 route the live and VOD feeds.
- Separate sources for editing: Use local multi-track recording to preserve sources on separate tracks for post-production. This does not by itself create a different Twitch live mix and VOD mix.
OBS describes Twitch VOD Track as sending a different audio feed to the stream while it is live than the feed heard in the VOD. The OBS guide is dated July 14, 2023: Twitch VOD Track Guide.
Set up separate Twitch live and VOD audio
- Connect your Twitch account. In OBS, open Settings → Stream and choose Connect Account.
- Enable the VOD option. Open Settings → Output. Turn on Enable Custom Encoder Settings; then enable Twitch VOD Track, which appears as an option.
- Open Advanced Audio Properties. In the Audio Mixer dock, click the gear icon and choose Advanced Audio Properties. OBS also provides access through the Edit menu.
- Route each source. In the track checkboxes, put sources that belong in the live mix on track 1. Put sources that should be heard in the VOD on track 2. For example, to play music live but omit it from the VOD, check its track 1 box and clear its track 2 box. Keep other desired audio—such as narration or game sound—on both tracks if it should reach both audiences.
- Check the mix before going live. Review the checkboxes for every source, not just music. A source omitted from a feed’s track will not be part of that feed’s mix.
OBS’s documented defaults are track 1 for the live feed and track 2 for the VOD. See the official Twitch VOD Track setup for the documented option and routing behavior.
Record separate audio tracks locally for editing
If your goal is to adjust or mute sources in an editor after recording, configure the local recording tracks as well. In the Twitch VOD Track setup, OBS leaves tracks 3–6 available for recording separation; the track assignments in Advanced Audio Properties determine which sources are captured on each.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open Advanced Audio Properties from the Audio Mixer gear icon or the Edit menu.
- Assign each source to the recording tracks you want to use, such as separate tracks for voice, game sound, and music. A source can be assigned to more than one track when useful.
- Open Settings → Output and enable the recording tracks you intend to capture. Assignments alone are not enough if those tracks are not enabled for recording.
- Make a short test recording and open it in your intended editor to confirm the tracks are present and contain the expected sources.
For the recording-track controls, consult OBS’s Multiple Audio Track Recording Guide, dated July 14, 2023.
Make recordings play correctly before editing
Standard video players generally play only one audio track at a time. OBS therefore advises routing all audio sources to track 1 if you plan to publish a recording without first processing it in an editor. You can still assign sources to additional recording tracks for editing; just do not rely on an ordinary player to mix those tracks together. The player behavior and recommendation are described in the OBS recording guide.

Capture audio from individual applications
Application-specific capture can help when you need to separate a game or music app from other computer audio. OBS documents Application Audio Capture for Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11, available in OBS Studio 28 and later. OBS Studio 30.1 added the option to include audio with Window Capture or Game Capture. These are version and operating-system qualifications, not a guarantee that every application will work identically. Details are in the Application Audio Capture Guide, dated July 12, 2023.
Prevent duplicate desktop audio and echo
When using Application Audio Capture sources, OBS advises disabling global Desktop Audio in Settings → Audio to avoid capturing the same sound twice. If an application’s audio is incompatible with the capture source, OBS documents VB-Cable as a workaround; compatibility depends on the particular app and setup.

Troubleshoot common routing problems
- Music still appears in the VOD: Open Advanced Audio Properties and check that the music source is included on track 1 but excluded from track 2. Confirm that Twitch VOD Track is enabled in Output.
- A source is missing from the live stream or VOD: Check that the source is assigned to the relevant track—track 1 for live or track 2 for VOD in the documented Twitch configuration.
- A local recording has no separate tracks: Confirm both that sources are assigned to the intended tracks and that those recording tracks are enabled in Settings → Output.
- A standard player does not play all the recorded audio: The player may select only one track. Route all sources to track 1 when the recording must play as a complete mix without editing.
- Application capture creates echo: Disable global Desktop Audio in Settings → Audio when using Application Audio Capture, then check whether a source is being captured twice.
- An application cannot be captured with Application Audio Capture: OBS notes that some applications may be incompatible. Its guide documents VB-Cable as a possible workaround, but does not promise compatibility for every system.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo serves a different task: keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube 24/7, rather than recording Twitch audio tracks or streaming from a camera. Upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud keeps looping it, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start a free day.
