To prevent audio gaps, check the whole audio path—not just the song files: playlist timing and transitions, the source client or encoder, the streaming server and its fallback, and the listener’s buffer and playback connection. Use crossfades only when they suit the music, test track boundaries and recovery, and tune buffers only in response to a specific symptom. There is no special Hindi-only technical setting; the engineering chain is the same, while the music determines which transitions sound right.
First identify where and when the silence occurs
A typical radio stream has a playback or automation system feeding a source client or encoder, which sends audio to a streaming server; the server then relays it to listeners. A gap can arise at any link in that chain. Icecast’s documentation describes this separation between source, server and listener, so diagnose the stage rather than assuming every gap is a bad file: Icecast basic setup.
- At nearly every song boundary: inspect playlist scheduling, end-of-file handling and transition settings first.
- At irregular points in tracks, or for all listeners at once: check whether the source is still connected and sending audio, then inspect server status.
- Only some listeners report buffering or silence: investigate their player and network path as well as the server’s handling of lagging listeners.
This is a practical way to narrow the search based on the documented stream architecture, not a validated diagnostic test. A connected source alone does not prove that audible content is reaching listeners.
Make song transitions intentional
Use playout automation to cue the next track before the current one ends, and choose how boundaries should sound. Liquidsoap documents playlists, crossfading, custom transitions and fades, blank detection, and loudness normalization as capabilities: Liquidsoap.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a transition that fits the tracks
- Gapless cueing starts the next file when the previous file ends, without deliberately overlapping them.
- Crossfade overlaps the outgoing and incoming tracks. It can smooth a boundary, but may cut into or mask a long instrumental outro, a quiet intro, or an intentional pause.
- Fade lowers or raises a track over time rather than necessarily overlapping tracks. Use it when that change suits the material.
For Hindi film songs, devotional music, bhajans, kirtan or Gurbani, listen to the actual segue: a long ending, quiet opening or deliberate silence may be part of the arrangement. The right transition is an editorial choice, not a universal crossfade setting.
Test the playlist, not just one transition
- Build a test playlist with varied file lengths, quiet openings, long endings and ordinary song boundaries.
- Listen through every transition, including the end of the final file and the point where a playlist should begin again.
- Check how your selected software handles an unreadable file, an empty playlist and a restart; confirm those behaviors in that software’s documentation.
- Listen for silence and unintended overlap. A transition can be technically continuous yet still sound wrong.
Liquidsoap documents the relevant features, but the sources do not establish one universal configuration or a guaranteed recovery recipe for every failure case.

Check the source client and server connection
The source client supplies the encoded stream; the server relays it. Confirm that your source client is compatible with the Icecast version you run—Icecast notes that not all source clients work with Icecast 2—and inspect both the source connection and server status. See Icecast’s setup documentation.
Icecast’s admin interface provides statistics and mountpoint-related operations, which can help establish whether a source is connected and what the server sees. It does not replace audio monitoring: a connected source might still be transmitting silence or the wrong content. Details are in the Icecast admin interface documentation.

Provide a fallback for source interruptions
Icecast can direct listeners to a compatible fallback mount when a source disconnects, or use a fallback file until the stream returns. Configure and test the behavior, including what happens when the main source resumes. The format must be compatible; Icecast also cautions against an untimed fallback file on a master relay, so do not assume a file played at its natural rate behaves like a timed live stream. Consult the Icecast configuration documentation and admin interface documentation for the deployed version.
Verify that listeners can reach the fallback and return to the main source as intended. A fallback can address a disconnected source; it cannot fix a bad transition within a playlist or guarantee that the fallback audio itself is suitable.

Tune listener buffers only when the symptom points there
Icecast’s queue-size caps queued listener data when a listener falls behind, for example because of network congestion. If the queue exceeds the limit, it is truncated and affected listeners are removed. burst-size sends initial data quickly to fill a player’s pre-buffer when it connects. The cited Icecast configuration documentation gives 64 kbytes as the default burst size and warns that it must be smaller than queue-size: Icecast configuration.
That 64-kbyte value is a documented default, not a universal recommendation. Check the configuration for your installed release and test under representative listener conditions; increasing a buffer without a specific symptom is not a reliable way to remove track-boundary gaps.

Apply YouTube ingest settings only to a YouTube HLS workflow
YouTube’s HLS requirements concern how an encoder sends segments to YouTube. They do not determine whether your playlist cues songs continuously. YouTube specifies segment durations of 1–4 seconds, MPEG-TS segments, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. It also says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments. These are HLS-specific requirements, not settings for every internet radio stream; check YouTube’s current live encoder settings and requirements before implementing them.
For HLS audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1, with 128 Kbps stereo or 384 Kbps 5.1 audio. Those ingest recommendations do not fix a gap caused by playlist timing or a disconnected upstream source.
Choose tools for the job, not by name alone
Liquidsoap is one documented option for playlist-based radio automation, transitions and output to Icecast. Icecast is one streaming-server example. Rocket Broadcaster describes itself as a radio audio encoder and lists Icecast and Shoutcast compatibility; those capability statements are vendor-authored, not independent reliability evidence: Rocket Broadcaster. No one tool is required for every station. Choose according to your existing platform, operating system, technical skills, need for live switching, output format, support and recovery requirements.
