Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To prevent audio drift in a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream, test the full production chain under realistic conditions, check whether the mismatch is constant or grows over time, and correct the underlying timing or delivery problem. A fixed OBS sync offset can address a stable delay; it is not a reliable fix for audio that progressively separates from the picture.
First determine what kind of sync problem you have
Compare clear audio and visual events near the start and later in the received stream—for example, a visible clap and its sound. Check the stream as viewers receive it, not just OBS’s local preview.
- Constant offset: The sound is late or early by roughly the same amount throughout. After measuring it, a small sync-offset adjustment may help.
- Increasing drift: The mismatch grows as the stream runs. A fixed offset will only shift the starting point; investigate capture timing, device clocks, audio configuration, and the routes feeding OBS.
- Intermittent breakup or dropped frames: Treat this first as a delivery or network problem, not a sync-offset problem.
The cause in an individual setup cannot be identified from the symptom alone. It depends on the devices, signal path, settings, and what appears in the test recording.
Test the complete 4K60 setup before going live
Use a private or otherwise controlled test with the intended resolution, frame rate, cameras or capture devices, audio sources, and OBS scenes. Include movement and audible events similar to the planned programme. YouTube specifically advises: “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” It also recommends monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event. YouTube’s encoder-settings guidance explains its testing and monitoring advice.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Start the test with the exact audio and video chain you plan to use, including any HDMI capture card or separately connected microphone.
- Make a sharp audiovisual event near the beginning and another later. Review the received stream at both points and note whether the offset stays stable or grows.
- Check where the problem first appears: OBS preview, local recording, or the received YouTube stream. That helps narrow which part of the chain to inspect.
- After each material change, repeat the representative test and review YouTube’s stream-health messages.
Verify capture timing and audio configuration
Match each capture source to its actual output
Set each capture device to the resolution and frame rate its source actually outputs. Do not assume 59.94 fps and 60 fps are interchangeable when configuring a source. AVerMedia’s GC553 OBS setup guide explicitly says to match capture resolution and FPS to the source; its examples include 60, 59.94, 30, and 29.97 fps. The instruction is specific to that device setup, but the matching principle is useful when checking a capture chain.
Check audio sample rates and device properties
Review OBS’s audio sample-rate setting and the properties of the devices in the chain. Keep configuration consistent where possible, then compare it with any YouTube health warning. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists 44.1 kHz for stereo audio and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Its Live Streaming API also recognizes 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended rates and can flag other sample rates or a mismatch between primary and backup streams. These warnings identify configuration issues to investigate; they do not prove that a particular warning caused drift.

The API also identifies frame-rate mismatch between primary and backup streams, video-ingestion starvation, and long keyframe intervals among possible health or configuration issues. Read the specific warning rather than assuming every warning explains an audio-sync symptom. See the YouTube LiveStreams API documentation.

| Setting | YouTube guidance for 2160p60 |
|---|---|
| Video bitrate | 35 Mbps recommended for AV1 or H.265; 50 Mbps recommended for H.264. Listed minimums are 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio sample rate | 44.1 kHz for stereo; 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. |
| Audio format | AAC or MP3. 5.1 surround sound is supported only for AAC over RTMP/RTMPS. |
| Latency at 4K | YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 2160p; 4K streams are optimized for quality and set to normal latency. |
Use the guidance for the codec and audio format you actually send. A recommended bitrate, codec, or keyframe interval does not, by itself, correct an audio clock or capture-timing problem. YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page is the reference for these values.
Adjust sync only when you have measured a stable offset
If the audio remains consistently early or late, adjust the affected source in small, measured increments, then repeat the test. In OBS, the control is in Advanced Audio Properties under Sync Offset. AVerMedia’s GC553 guide shows this control and gives -50 to -200 ms for its documented capture-card scenario. That range is specific to that setup, not a general setting to copy.

If the mismatch grows over time, do not keep changing the offset to chase it. Inspect device clocks, sample rates, source frame rates, capture routes, and OBS logs. The available official guidance does not identify one universal root cause or a universal drift-correction value.

OBS defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. If OBS reports dropped frames, test upload stability and lower the bitrate to a level the connection can sustain, accepting the possible quality trade-off. OBS says dynamic bitrate may help avoid drops, but it is a fallback rather than a root-cause fix. See OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide.

Reducing bitrate or resolution may make a constrained connection more reliable, but it is not proof that a timing or audio-clock problem has been fixed. Re-test at the intended workload and review YouTube’s stream health after changing delivery settings.
Common symptoms and what to check
| Symptom | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Audio is late by about the same amount throughout | Compare early and late events in the received stream. | Measure the offset, adjust the affected source’s OBS sync offset in small increments, and retest. |
| Audio gradually moves out of sync | Check capture timing, device clocks, audio sample rates, source frame rates, and the routes feeding OBS. | Change one part of the chain at a time and repeat the full test; a fixed offset is not a progressive-drift correction. |
| YouTube reports a sample-rate or primary/backup mismatch | Compare the audio rates and stream configurations actually in use. | Resolve the configuration indicated by the health message and run another test. |
| YouTube reports ingestion starvation or a long keyframe interval | Compare encoder output with YouTube’s ingest guidance and review connection capacity. | Correct the relevant ingest setting or delivery issue; do not assume the warning alone accounts for sync drift. |
| OBS reports dropped frames | Check whether upload stability or available bandwidth can sustain the configured bitrate. | Test a sustainable bitrate and investigate the connection; use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback. |
