Find where the silence starts before changing settings: listen to the exported audio file, watch the playback source’s meter in OBS, then check YouTube’s stream health if OBS still shows audio. Each check isolates a different layer; no single setting fixes every fireplace-loop gap.
First, locate where the silence appears
A fireplace video can look continuous while its audio has a quiet gap at the end-to-start boundary. Compare the local file, OBS’s audio meter, and the live stream to identify the layer that needs attention.

The first two diagnoses are practical troubleshooting inferences. Exact behavior depends on the file, playback application, encoder, and stream protocol.
Check and repair the audio loop
Audition the exported file
- Open the actual exported ambience file—not just the project timeline—and play it through several end-to-start transitions.
- If the quiet interval recurs at the same boundary, edit the end and beginning so the transition is smoother. A crossfade is one possible approach, but there is no universally correct duration established for fireplace audio.
- Export the revised file and audition repeated transitions again. A visually seamless video does not establish that its audio loops cleanly.
Test the file through the live playback setup
Play the file using the same source and configuration used for the stream. Watch OBS’s audio input meter as one pass ends and the next begins. OBS explains that a missing input indicator means no audio is reaching OBS; possible causes include waiting for file playback or a disconnected audio interface. A moving meter confirms signal is reaching OBS, but it does not prove the boundary sounds natural.

Check YouTube audio health and format
If OBS continues to show audio while viewers hear a gap, inspect YouTube’s stream-health information and the audio configuration. The YouTube Live Streaming API documents issues including noAudioStream, an unsupported audio codec, a sample-rate mismatch, and multiple audio streams. Check the issue actually reported rather than changing unrelated settings.
For YouTube HLS specifically, YouTube Help lists AAC, AC3, and EAC3 as audio codec options and recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1 audio. Match the stream’s actual ingest mode and current platform requirements; do not apply HLS-specific settings automatically to another protocol.

Understand what HLS settings can—and cannot—fix
YouTube’s HLS guidance specifies segment durations from 1 to 4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments. HLS segments are short media portions; the playlist provides the ordering information used to reassemble them. These settings matter for delivery and compatibility. They do not make an audio file with a silent end-to-start boundary seamless.
