To play Google’s Squid Game mini-game, open Google Search in a web browser, search for Squid Game, and select the small brown card or envelope marked with the show’s circle, triangle, and square symbols. The browser-based Easter egg recreates a simplified version of Red Light, Green Light: press the blue O to move, then press the red X to stop before Young-hee turns around.
No app, download, Google account, controller, or subscription is required. However, Google Search Easter eggs can change or disappear, so the card may not appear in every country, browser, language, or Search interface.
How to launch the Squid Game Easter egg
- Open Google Search in a normal web browser on a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.
- Search for Squid Game. This exact query is the most consistently documented way to find the feature.
- Look through the results for a small brown card, invitation, envelope, or game panel displaying the Squid Game circle, triangle, and square symbols. It can be easy to miss among the normal search results.
- Tap the card on a touchscreen or click it with a mouse. The mini-game opens inside Google Search.
Netflix announced the Google partnership on December 16, 2024, ahead of the December 26, 2024 premiere of Squid Game Season 2. Its announcement specifically instructed fans to search for “Squid Game” and tap the brown envelope. Netflix’s announcement is the strongest source for the feature’s launch timing and attribution.
How to play
The game adapts the first challenge from the series, Red Light, Green Light. Young-hee stands at the far end of a playing field while six player figures attempt to reach the finish line.

- Green-light phase: When Young-hee is facing away and the song is playing, press the blue O control to move the players forward.
- Red-light phase: When Young-hee turns around or the song stops, press the red X control to stop.
- Penalty: A player who is still moving at the wrong moment disappears. The remaining figures represent your available players or lives.
- Objective: Get at least one player across the finish line before all six are eliminated.
The round is lost when none of the players reaches the finish line. Getting all six players across is a more demanding completion goal, but it is not necessary to win the round. The interaction is a short Easter egg, not a full game with accounts, progression, unlockable content, or a persistent leaderboard.
Timing tips
- Press once. Repeatedly tapping the controls does not make the figures move faster or stop more quickly.
- Stop early. Press the red X slightly before the song ends rather than waiting for the exact instant Young-hee turns around. Anticipating the change is safer than reacting at the last moment.
- Use the input method your device provides. Click the controls with a mouse on a desktop or laptop, and tap them on a phone or tablet. The basic mechanic is the same on both.
- Watch the animation. The song and Young-hee’s movement provide the timing cues. Move during the first phase, then prioritize stopping before the turn.
Google’s version is a playful, nonviolent browser interaction. It is inspired by the television show’s challenge, but it does not reproduce the show’s violent consequences.

What to do if the brown card is missing
The feature is a Google Search Easter egg rather than a permanent Google Doodle or standalone application. Search presentation and Easter egg availability can vary, so an absent card does not necessarily mean that you searched incorrectly.
- Use the web version of Google Search. Try a browser at Google.com instead of the Google mobile app, an in-app browser, or a browser embedded in another application.
- Search the exact phrase again. Enter Squid Game without adding extra terms, then refresh the results page.
- Try an up-to-date browser. Chrome has been reported as the most consistent option, although Safari, Firefox, and Edge have also worked in some circumstances.
- Temporarily disable aggressive script blockers. If the results page loads but interactive elements are missing, a privacy extension, content blocker, or script-blocking setting may be preventing the card from rendering.
- Try another Search context. A private window, a different browser, or a different language setting may produce a different Search presentation. These are troubleshooting possibilities, not guaranteed fixes.
- Try another device. If the card does not appear on a phone, check Google Search on a desktop browser, or vice versa.
Do not install an unofficial APK, browser extension, or “unblocked” copy to access it. When available, the official interaction launches directly from Google Search.

Is Google’s Squid Game mini-game still available?
It has continued to be listed in later roundups, including coverage published in 2026, but that does not amount to an official Google promise that it will remain online indefinitely. Search Easter eggs may be limited by region, language, browser, account context, or the particular Search surface being used. The most accurate expectation is conditional availability: try the exact Search method, but do not assume that every reader will see the card.
The verified launch window is December 2024, in connection with Squid Game Season 2. Some later guides claim that the feature first appeared in late 2021, but that claim conflicts with Netflix’s contemporaneous December 2024 announcement and reporting. December 2024 is therefore the supported launch date.
