Then set YouTube’s preferred languages and, where a video offers alternate audio, choose its audio track in the player. Set display language and location separately. An India-hosted VM does not guarantee India-specific recommendations, available audio, or uninterrupted playback.
Before you start: check the VM’s internet access
A VM needs outbound internet connectivity to load YouTube. Azure recommends defining an outbound connectivity method explicitly for predictable egress; do not assume a newly deployed VM has the same default outbound behavior as an older deployment. See Microsoft’s Default Outbound Access in Azure.
Azure VM network throughput depends on the selected VM size. Microsoft measures allocated VM bandwidth on outbound traffic, and the documented limit aggregates traffic across the VM’s network interfaces. Check the network performance for your chosen size in Microsoft’s Azure Virtual Machine Network Throughput and Bandwidth guidance.
Open YouTube and start the playlist
- Connect to the Azure VM and open a web browser.
- Go to YouTube, sign in if needed, and open the playlist page or a playlist shared with you.
- Select a video in the playlist to begin playback. YouTube’s playlist controls and management options are described in its playlist help.
Set the language YouTube uses
YouTube has separate controls for preferred languages, display language, and location. They serve different purposes; setting one does not automatically set the others.

Preferred language for audio, titles, and descriptions
- On YouTube web, select your profile picture.
- Choose Settings, then Playback and performance.
- Under Language, add or edit your preferred languages, select the languages you want, and confirm.
This preference applies to available audio tracks and to titles and descriptions. It does not change search results or recommendations. The setting cannot create an audio track that a video does not have.
Choose an audio track for an individual video
While a video is playing, open the player’s Settings menu and select Audio track, then choose an offered language. The menu only provides alternate languages when the video has them. YouTube’s instructions are in Watch videos in your preferred language.

Set display language and location separately
Use YouTube’s profile/settings controls to change its display language or location. Display language affects interface and metadata presentation, including available titles and channel names. Location influences recommendations, charts, and news, as YouTube explains in Change language or location settings.
An India-based VM does not force every YouTube feature to behave as if the account and viewer are in India. YouTube says it may estimate current location from IP address, saved home or work addresses, or device location; account and browser signals may also matter. Consequently, an India VM IP is not a guarantee of India-specific search results, recommendations, or playback availability. See Understand and manage your location when you use YouTube.

Choose how the playlist continues
Autoplay advances to another related video
Turn on Autoplay in the YouTube player if you want another related video to start when the current one ends. This is not the same as repeating the current playlist. YouTube notes that autoplay may stop after inactivity and can show a “Continue watching?” prompt; its timing varies by device. See Autoplay videos and Why YouTube asks, “Continue watching?”.
Loop repeats the playlist
To repeat the playlist rather than move to a related video, open a video from the playlist, expand the playlist, and select Loop. YouTube documents this control in Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.

Budget for VM bandwidth and outbound data
Check the VM size’s expected network performance, the deployed Azure region, and your anticipated monthly outbound data before estimating cost. Azure’s live Bandwidth pricing page lists the first 100 GB per month of internet egress as free across Azure regions. Subsequent charges depend on the applicable tier, region, usage, and customer agreement; the displayed prices are estimates rather than a customer-specific quote. The page groups Central India, South India, and West India in billing Zone 2, which is a pricing classification, not a latency measure or recommendation of one region over another.
No universal bandwidth rate or exact playback data consumption applies to every VM and playlist. YouTube playback, session behavior, and video availability can vary, and the VM’s actual network limit depends on its size. Check the Azure pricing and network details for the deployment you actually use.

Troubleshooting playback and language
- YouTube will not load: check that the VM has outbound connectivity and that its network configuration permits access to the internet.
- The desired language is missing from Audio track: that video may not offer an alternate track. Try another video in the playlist or check the track menu on each video; a preferred-language setting cannot add a missing dub.
- Recommendations or search results are not India-specific: review YouTube’s location setting, but do not treat the VM’s region or IP address as a guarantee of regional results.
- Playback stops during a long session: autoplay can be interrupted by inactivity prompts. Check the player and resume playback when YouTube asks whether to continue.
- The playlist moves to an unexpected video: autoplay advances to related videos; use the playlist’s Loop control when the goal is to repeat that playlist.
