To keep videos in an OBS YouTube loop at a consistent perceived volume, measure and adjust each file before streaming with the same loudness method and target, then listen to the complete playlist in OBS. OBS’s VLC Video source can loop a playlist, but its standard Gain, Compressor, and Limiter filters are not documented as automatically matching the loudness of each playlist item.
Build a looping playlist in OBS

In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the video files you want in the playlist. This source requires VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See the OBS media sources documentation.

Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties so the playlist repeats.

If you are looping only one file, use a regular Media Source and enable its Loop option instead.

Match perceived loudness before the stream
Measure and adjust each file consistently
Use an audio or video editor, or another loudness-aware processor, to measure and adjust each clip using the same loudness method and target. The goal is to reduce abrupt perceived jumps between videos, not simply to make every peak reach the same level. Choose a target appropriate to the material and destination: the reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish an official LUFS target for this kind of live stream, so do not treat a figure such as −14 LUFS as a YouTube Live requirement.
Audition the whole sequence in OBS
Listen to transitions as well as representative quiet and loud passages through OBS monitoring. Check the complete loop, since the last-to-first transition can be as distracting as a change between adjacent playlist items. OBS recommends listening both early in the audio chain and again when audio reaches OBS; monitoring headphones can help you hear those changes.
OBS’s main mixer bar represents peak level. Its moving black indicator is intended to reflect loudness more closely, but the meter is not an integrated LUFS readout. For meter details, see OBS Audio Mixer and OBS Audio Monitoring Guide.

What OBS audio filters can—and cannot—do

Gain: raises or lowers a source’s level. It is not automatic loudness matching across playlist files.

Compressor: reduces peaks or can duck one source while another is active. It changes dynamics; it does not give different prerecorded clips a shared loudness target.

Limiter: helps prevent peaks from exceeding its threshold. OBS recommends placing it last in its filter chain. A limiter is peak protection, not a substitute for matching the clips’ perceived loudness.

OBS documents these controls as source filters, not as a process that analyzes and normalizes every item in a VLC playlist. A single fader or filter chain may affect the signal, but you should not rely on it to make each clip equally loud. See OBS Filters Guide and OBS Limiter Filter.
Prevent clipping at the output
Keep the streamed output below 0 dBFS. OBS explains that reaching or exceeding this digital ceiling at output can cause clipping distortion. A limiter can help catch peaks, but it cannot make separately mastered clips equally loud. OBS’s Audio Mixer Technical Details explains the 0 dBFS convention and why the output must stay below the ceiling.
Why YouTube playback controls are not a fix
YouTube’s Stable volume is a viewer-side playback feature that balances quiet and loud parts, and it is not available for every video. YouTube also describes optional audio enhancements and controls for future uploads. Neither is a guarantee that every viewer will receive a consistently normalized OBS live playlist. YouTube’s upload encoding guidance recommends a 48 kHz sample rate and specifies audio codecs, but that is not a loudness target for a live playlist. See YouTube recommended upload encoding settings.
Choose the right workflow

Troubleshoot loudness changes between videos

One video is consistently louder throughout: measure and adjust that file using the same method and target as the others, then audition the transition in OBS.

Only loud moments distort: check the OBS output meter and reduce the level or use a limiter as peak protection. Keep output below 0 dBFS.

A single Gain setting fixes one clip but makes another too loud: the files likely have different loudness. A source-level adjustment does not normalize each playlist item independently; prepare the files separately.

The transition sounds wrong even when meter peaks look similar: peak level is not the same as perceived loudness. Listen to the passages and transitions, and use a consistent loudness-aware preparation method.

The playlist will not play or loop: confirm the source is VLC Video, VLC is installed with the same architecture as OBS (64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS), and Loop Playlist is enabled. For a single file, check the Media Source’s Loop setting.
