OBS’s documented phone-control setup is for a phone and OBS host on the same local network; the sources here do not establish a safe, supported method for controlling the host from another network.
How this setup works
The computer running OBS does the encoding and sends video and audio to YouTube. Your phone connects to OBS as a control client, letting you manage supported actions without sitting at the computer. The phone does not replace OBS as the encoder, and it does not make a remote-network connection safe by itself.
OBS WebSocket is included with OBS Studio 28 and later. OBS lists compatible clients including Touch Portal and OBS Blade. Choose a client based on the controls you need, such as starting or stopping the stream, changing scenes, or checking status. Check YouTube live-stream eligibility
Before configuring OBS, confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel. YouTube’s eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Create the YouTube stream and configure OBS
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the stream URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. The stream key is a credential: do not share it, publish it, or put it in a phone-control client. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Enable authenticated OBS WebSocket control
On the OBS computer, enable WebSocket access in OBS’s settings, set a strong password, and keep it private. Install a compatible phone client and connect it to OBS while both devices are on the same local network. Follow the client’s connection instructions; available controls vary by client. Do not disable authentication for convenience.

Test before leaving the computer unattended
Start a test stream or private broadcast and verify that OBS is sending the intended video and audio, that YouTube reports a healthy stream, and that the phone can perform the actions you expect. Confirm that a local recording starts and grows if you plan to use one as an archive. A successful phone connection does not prove that the stream will survive an internet, power, or computer failure.
Plan for continuous operation, archives, and DVR
A continuous stream and a complete replay are not the same thing. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If a YouTube replay matters, consider scheduling sessions shorter than 12 hours and check that each session is archived; do not assume a single uninterrupted 24-hour stream will produce a complete replay. Keep a local recording as a separate backup when the archive matters. Monitor that the recording file is growing, rather than assuming a recording is being saved because the stream is live. Protect the bhajan music rights
Use recordings, compositions, arrangements, and performances for which the channel has the necessary rights. A devotional or traditional subject does not automatically make a particular recording or performance free to stream. YouTube puts responsibility for obtaining necessary rights, including music licensing rights, on the person providing live content. Its systems scan live streams for third-party matches, which can interrupt or terminate a broadcast. Even a licensed third-party stream may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s livestream terms.

Monitor the stream and fix common problems

The phone cannot connect to OBS
Check that the phone and OBS computer are on the same local network, WebSocket access is enabled, and the client is using the correct connection details and password. If the phone is on another network, the documented same-network setup does not establish a safe remote-access method; do not expose OBS WebSocket publicly or remove its password to make a connection work.

YouTube shows a poor connection or OBS reports dropped frames
OBS associates dropped frames and intermittent disconnections with an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check the host computer’s connection and OBS’s stream status. Reduce the bitrate if the connection cannot maintain it, then confirm YouTube reports a healthy stream. The live stream works, but no complete replay appears
Check the session length. YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for longer streams. Use shorter sessions if automatic YouTube archives are important and keep a local recording for backup.

The stream is interrupted by a music match
Review the rights for the specific recording and performance, not only the underlying devotional song. If a rights holder licensed the use, confirm whether the channel must be allowlisted through Content ID; licensing alone may not prevent an automated interruption.

The local archive is missing or incomplete
Check that local recording was enabled and that the destination has available storage. Watch for the file to grow while streaming, and verify the recording after a test. A YouTube archive and a local recording are separate; do not rely on the YouTube replay as your only copy.
