Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf you mean a single video you were watching, sign in to the same Google Account and reopen the video; YouTube will usually resume from its saved progress. If you mean a multi-video browser queue, save it as a playlist before closing the browser—the temporary queue does not survive browser closure. Autoplay, meanwhile, starts another video after the current one ends; it does not restore your previous queue or timestamp.
First, identify what you want YouTube to resume
“Stream” can mean a recorded video, a queue of videos, continuous playback, or a live broadcast. YouTube handles each differently. Use the matching fix below: video progress restores a point in one recording, a playlist preserves a list, Autoplay moves to another video, and live DVR lets you catch up during an ongoing broadcast.
| What stopped | What to use | Does it survive closing the browser or app? |
|---|---|---|
| One unfinished recorded video | The video progress bar | Usually, when signed in to the same Google Account |
| A temporary queue of videos | Save the queue to a playlist | A browser queue does not survive browser closure; a saved playlist does |
| Playback at the end of a video | Autoplay | Autoplay is a device-specific setting, not a saved queue |
| A live broadcast you paused | Live DVR controls | DVR supports pausing and continuing during the ongoing stream; automatic recovery after a restart is not promised |
Resume one unfinished video
- Sign in to the same Google Account. YouTube’s progress bar is available to signed-in viewers on TV, computer, and the YouTube mobile apps.
- Find and reopen the partially watched video. Look for its progress bar, then select the video. YouTube says it will usually resume where you left off.
- If the progress looks stale, refresh the page or feed. Progress can take time to update, and refreshing may help.
If it still starts at the beginning
- Check that you are using the Google Account that watched the video. Progress is associated with the signed-in account.
- Check whether watch history was cleared. Clearing watch history also clears video progress bars.
- If the video is almost complete, it may not resume from the saved point.
Keep a multi-video queue after closing the browser
A YouTube browser queue is temporary: YouTube says it will not save after you close the browser. Before closing it, save the queued videos to a playlist, such as Watch Later. On your next visit, open that playlist and play the videos from there.
This is the right option when you want to preserve which videos come next. It is separate from resuming a single video at its old timestamp.

Start another video automatically
Turn on Autoplay on the device where you want playback to continue. Autoplay starts another related video when the current one ends; it does not mean YouTube will restore a browser queue or resume a live broadcast after a restart. Its setting is device-specific, so enabling it on a phone does not establish that it is enabled on a computer or TV.
When YouTube pauses Autoplay
YouTube may show “Continue watching?” during Autoplay after 30 minutes on mobile, 60 minutes on the web, or 180 minutes on TV. Select Yes to continue. These are platform thresholds documented by YouTube Help, and behavior can vary by device or account.

If you mean a live YouTube broadcast
Live DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue watching while the broadcast is still ongoing. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, and some devices have lower limits.
DVR is not a guarantee that a live session will reopen at the same point after you restart the app or device. The documented feature covers control of an ongoing broadcast, not automatic restoration after a restart.
