To make an R&B or soul song with AI, start with a clear groove and emotional direction, generate a vocal sketch, revise the sections, then export what you need for a final mix. For a complete-song starting point, use Suno, Eleven Music or Udio. For a beat you can edit, use Beat Shaper or Soundverse AI Beat Maker.
Step 1: Define The Song Before Prompting
Write a one-sentence brief covering the feeling, story, groove and vocal approach. For example: “A late-night soul ballad about choosing to leave, with a restrained verse, a rising chorus and a warm, unhurried groove.” Name musical ingredients rather than relying on an artist imitation: describe the rhythm, instrumentation, vocal character and energy you want.
Decide whether the first draft should be a complete song or an instrumental. That choice determines which tool to open first. Keep a few lines of original lyrics ready if you want the generator to follow your story closely.
Step 2: Generate A First Song Sketch

Step 3: Build Or Replace The Groove
If you want more control over the instrumental, create a separate beat or full backing track. Describe the pocket in practical terms: straight or swung feel, sparse or busy drums, bass movement, and whether the chorus should open up. Ask for an arrangement that leaves room for the vocal.

Use the generated instrumental as the song bed or as a source for selected parts. If combining it with a vocal draft, check the tempo and section lengths, then adjust the arrangement so fills and bass changes support the vocal phrasing.
Step 4: Shape The Vocal And Song Sections
Listen through the song in order and mark what each section needs to do: the verse establishes the story, the pre-chorus builds tension if the song has one, and the chorus delivers the central line. Revise lyrics that sound generic or difficult to sing, then regenerate or edit only the section that needs work where the selected tool supports it.

Keep the lead vocal in focus. If backing vocals, ad-libs or harmonies crowd the lyric, simplify the prompt or reduce those parts in the arrangement. Treat any generated voice as a creative choice that needs review, especially if it resembles an identifiable person.
Step 5: Export Parts For Editing
When the draft works musically, export stems or MIDI if your chosen product and plan provide them. Stems can let you rebalance the vocal, drums and instruments in a separate mix; MIDI gives you editable note data when supported. Check each product’s current plan details before building a workflow around a particular export.

Step 6: Review Rights And Prepare The Release
Before publishing, check the selected service’s current terms for the plan used, commercial use, voice rights and any source audio or lyrics you supplied. Get consent before using another person’s voice or material, and do not assume a generated vocal clears a recognizable likeness or a cover. For a final creator-facing deliverable, listen on headphones and phone speakers, confirm the vocal remains intelligible at low volume, and check that the ending feels deliberate. Keep the prompt, lyric draft and exported files together so you can trace which version you chose.
