Choose the right OBS source

These settings repeat playback after the file or playlist has finished. The playlist source also offers shuffle, which changes the order instead of preserving the file-list order. OBS’s Media Sources guide describes the built-in source controls.
Set up a Hindi video playlist to loop
- Open the OBS scene where you want the playlist to play.
- In the Sources dock, click + and choose VLC Video Source. If you are adding just one video, choose Media Source instead.
- For a VLC Video Source, add the Hindi video files to its playlist. Turn on Loop Playlist so OBS starts the playlist again after it runs out of media files.
- For a single Media Source, select the video file and turn on Loop.
- Check the video in the OBS preview and confirm that the intended files play in the expected order before relying on the scene during a live stream.
To preserve the order you added files in, leave Shuffle Playlist off. Its documented default is Off; Loop Playlist is documented as On by default, but check the setting rather than relying on its default.
Know what the other playback settings control
Media Source: Loop and restart on activation
Loop repeats a single file when playback completes; its documented default is Off. Restart playback when source becomes active starts the file from the beginning when the source is in the current scene and becomes visible. Its documented default is On. This activation setting is not the same as looping at the end of the file.

VLC Video Source: visibility behavior
Visibility Behaviour controls whether playback continues, pauses, or stops when the source is not visible. The documented default is “Stop when not visible, restart when visible.” If you switch scenes or hide the source, consider how this behavior affects playback when you return to it.
If VLC Video Source is missing
- Install VLC, then reopen OBS. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video Source to appear.
- Match the application architecture: OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Return to the Sources dock and use + to check for VLC Video Source again.
Optional third-party playlist source
The third-party Media Playlist Source plugin is another playlist option. Its listing describes a “Play first file when the last file in the list is played” setting. It is not required for this setup because OBS’s built-in VLC Video Source has Loop Playlist. If you consider the plugin, check its current listing for OBS version requirements and compatibility before installing it.
