To change a YouTube playlist’s privacy, open its details or edit screen, choose Public, Private, or Unlisted, and save. You must own the playlist to change its setting.
Choose the right playlist setting

| Private | Restricted; it is not publicly viewable | No shareable playlist URL in YouTube’s comparison, and it is hidden from public discovery placements. YouTube and its human reviewers may still review private playlists for ad suitability, copyright, and abuse prevention. |
Use Public when you want people to find the playlist, Unlisted when you want to share it by link without public discovery, and Private when access should be restricted. These settings control the playlist; changing playlist visibility does not itself change the visibility of videos inside it.
Change visibility in YouTube Studio on desktop
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- In the left menu, select Content, then Playlists.
- Find the playlist and select Details.
- On the Playlist details page, open Visibility and choose Public, Private, or Unlisted.
- Select Save.
Change visibility from YouTube on desktop
- Sign in to YouTube and open You, then Playlists.
- Under the playlist, select View full playlist.
- Below the playlist title, select the current privacy setting and choose the new one.
Change visibility in the YouTube Android app
- Open the YouTube app and go to your playlists, using your profile picture and the Playlists area if needed.
- Open the playlist and tap Edit.
- In Edit playlist, choose the new privacy setting.
- Tap Save.
YouTube’s app labels and locations can shift with updates. If the route looks different, look for the playlist’s Edit or Visibility control.
If you cannot change the setting
- You do not own the playlist: YouTube requires playlist ownership to change its privacy setting.
- The account is supervised: Playlist visibility controls may not be available on supervised accounts.
- You are seeing a creation limit: YouTube sets a daily limit on creating public playlists across YouTube, YouTube Music, and the YouTube API. The limit concerns creating playlists; it does not mean you cannot change the visibility of an existing playlist.
Playlist visibility also does not grant access to videos that have their own restrictions. If someone cannot watch a video in an otherwise accessible playlist, check that video’s separate visibility and access controls.
