You can loop a recorded video on YouTube Live at little or no upfront cost by using a computer you already own, the free OBS Studio encoder, a local video file, and a stable upload connection. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, send OBS the stream URL and key, check the preview, then start the broadcast. For an unattended 24/7 stream, a cloud service is an alternative to leaving a computer running.
Check that your channel can go live
Before setting up OBS, confirm that live streaming is enabled for your YouTube channel. YouTube’s requirements include a verified channel, no live-stream restriction during the previous 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
If you plan to make the broadcast public or monetize it, also check that the video, soundtrack, and other material are suitable for that use. Permission to use a recording does not by itself guarantee that a channel will meet YouTube’s monetization rules.
Prepare the recording and computer
Use a local video file
Keep the recording on the computer that will run OBS. OBS Studio is free and open source, and its Media Source can play local files. OBS documents formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM; its Loop control repeats a file after playback ends. Add the file as a Media Source, enable Loop if you want continuous playback, and test both picture and audio before going live. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

Check the connection you actually have
Run a speed test on the computer and network you intend to use. YouTube advises that the outbound connection must sustain the stream bitrate and recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. That is general platform guidance, not an India-specific guarantee. If possible, test over Ethernet; a suitable Cat 6 cable is an optional way to connect a computer and router that both have Ethernet ports, not a requirement or a promise of better service.
Also check your own internet plan’s data allowance and expected broadcast duration. Costs and data limits vary by location and provider, so there is no reliable single rupee estimate for this setup.
Create the YouTube encoder stream
-
Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream using the encoder option.
-
Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s reset flow and update OBS with the new key.

Use RTMPS, YouTube’s recommended encrypted ingest option, when it is available in your encoder settings.

Choose OBS output settings for your upload speed
Set the video bitrate to a level your tested upload can sustain with headroom. YouTube’s H.264 guidance gives these reference points:
| Output | YouTube minimum video bitrate | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations for H.264, not a guarantee that your particular connection can hold a stream. For a low-budget start, choose a resolution and bitrate that fit your measured, stable upload rather than automatically choosing the highest resolution. YouTube recommends CBR encoding and a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds. Its guidance lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming tips.
Test with footage that has similar movement and sound to the planned broadcast. A static image may be easier to encode than fast-moving documentary footage, so a test using the actual material can reveal problems a speed test alone will not.
Preview, go live, and monitor
-
Start streaming from OBS. Wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room preview to appear.
-
Check the preview for correct framing, movement, audio level, and sync. Confirm that the intended file is looping if the broadcast should repeat.
-
When the preview and stream health look right, click Go Live in the Live Control Room.

Keep an eye on stream health and audio/video quality during the broadcast. If you cannot monitor the computer or connection, a local-computer setup may not be suitable for unattended continuous streaming.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer continuous broadcast will be archived in the same way; see YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Protect copyright and monetization eligibility
Broadcast only footage, music, narration, and other assets for which you have the necessary rights and permissions. YouTube may terminate a live stream for copyright or Community Guidelines strikes, and Content ID claims can apply after a stream is archived. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

YouTube’s reused-content and inauthentic-content monetization policies also apply to live streams. Reused content can include material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. YouTube treats reused-content review separately from copyright enforcement, so owning a copy or having permission does not automatically mean the stream qualifies for monetization. Check the current YouTube channel monetization policies.

You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, age eligibility, whether live streaming has been enabled, and whether a live-stream restriction applies.
-
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that OBS has the correct event stream URL and key, that the key has not been reset, and that the network permits the selected ingest connection. Use RTMPS when supported.
-
The stream buffers or drops frames: Reduce bitrate or resolution, check the upload speed again, and preserve YouTube’s recommended headroom. Test the same computer and connection you will use for the broadcast.
-
The video stops at the end of the file: Check that the Media Source’s Loop option is enabled and that the local file plays correctly in OBS.
