To run a random song playlist on a 24/7 YouTube radio channel, clear the music for livestream use, put approved tracks into a shuffle-capable player, route that player’s audio and a visual scene through an encoder such as OBS, and send the continuous broadcast to YouTube Live. The playlist handles song order; the encoder and YouTube handle the live video stream. For an always-on setup, the playback and encoding system—and its internet connection—must remain available, unless you use cloud playout.
1. Clear the music rights before building the playlist
Only add tracks you own or have permission to use in a YouTube livestream. A consumer music subscription does not, by itself, establish broadcast rights. Keep written permission and check that it covers continuous livestreaming, the territories you intend to reach, and any archived version of the stream.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If protected material is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the material remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A license does not necessarily prevent a platform interruption: the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube explains these enforcement issues in its Copyright issues with live streams guidance.
If you plan to use copyright-protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with your label or distributor. That coordination and a license are not interchangeable: confirm both your usage rights and any channel allowlisting needed to avoid Content ID interruptions. An archived livestream can also receive Content ID claims after it ends.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Build a playlist that can shuffle reliably
Organize and verify the tracks
- Collect only cleared audio files, and keep a record of the rights or permissions for each track.
- Put the tracks in a dedicated playlist or folder so the radio rotation cannot accidentally include unrelated or uncleared audio.
- Use a playback method that supports shuffle and can continue from track to track. Test the whole playlist behavior, including what happens at the end of the set.
“Random” can mean different things. A basic shuffle may repeat a song before every track has played, while other players may avoid repeats or use a weighted order. The exact shuffle controls vary by playback software; do not assume a particular no-repeat rule unless you have verified it in your chosen player. If repeats matter, test a representative run and check the player’s documented behavior.
3. Route the playlist into a YouTube Live broadcast
The self-hosted setup has three working parts: a player for the playlist, an encoder such as OBS for the audio-video program, and a continuously available computer and network connection. Pair the music with a static image or visual loop, then send the encoded stream to YouTube Live. OBS provides a Help Portal with basic settings guidance and an Auto-Configuration Wizard; exact playlist-shuffle controls depend on the separate player you use.

- Prepare the audio source. Set the player to the cleared playlist and enable the shuffle behavior you intend to use. Confirm that the player advances tracks without prompting or stopping.
- Create the visual program. In OBS, add the audio source and a static image or visual loop. Check that the music is audible in the program and that the visual remains present through track changes.
- Connect to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and connect the encoder using the stream key and destination details provided for that broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password; do not show or share it publicly.
- Choose stable output settings. Use OBS’s guidance and Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point for the computer and internet connection you have. There is no universal bitrate or resolution established for every setup; the right settings depend on the connection, encoder, and desired output. Avoid selecting a bitrate your sustained upload cannot support.
- Start the encoder and confirm the live output. Check the YouTube preview and status as well as the encoder indicators before sharing the stream link.
YouTube for Artists says first-time live access should be enabled by verifying the account at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast. Its current Going Live for Music Channels resource describes the enablement process and recommends an unlisted test, especially for high-production or high-investment streams. Interface labels can change, so follow the current YouTube instructions rather than relying on a remembered menu path.
4. Test the complete stream before announcing it
Run an unlisted test long enough to observe more than one playlist transition. Confirm that the audio is clean, the visual stays up, the player advances as expected, and the YouTube stream remains live. If you plan to archive the broadcast, check that the chosen tracks and permissions cover that use too.

5. Keep the stream available and troubleshoot interruptions
A 24/7 broadcast depends on continuous playback, encoding, and connectivity. With a self-hosted setup, the computer running the player and encoder must stay on and connected. YouTube does not make a successful stream start a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS dropped-frames counter rises; connection indicator turns yellow or red | The connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the selected bitrate. | Use OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance and Auto-Configuration Wizard; test a more sustainable output configuration and verify upload stability. |
| YouTube interrupts the stream or displays a placeholder | Third-party content may have been detected; licensed music can still trigger a match if the channel is not allowlisted. | Check the rights for the track, contact the label or distributor, and confirm Content ID allowlisting with the rights owner. |
| The playlist stops or repeats unexpectedly | The player may have reached the end, lost access to a file, or applied a shuffle mode with repeats. | Test the player’s end-of-playlist behavior, file availability, and repeat/shuffle settings before returning to public broadcast. |
| The stream goes offline when unattended | The host computer, encoder, player, power, or network may have stopped. | Check sleep and restart settings, power and connectivity, and whether the player and encoder are still running. A self-hosted always-on design requires an operating environment that remains available. |
6. Account for audience and channel settings
If the stream is marked made for kids, YouTube lists restrictions affecting features including live chat, chat replay, comments on archives and upcoming streams, reminders, and personalized ads. Review YouTube’s current guidance on restrictions on YouTube live streaming before choosing channel and audience settings.
