YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Even a qualifying public replay does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program (YPP) acceptance or ad revenue.
How to make each session’s replay count toward public watch hours
- Break the continuous broadcast into sessions under 12 hours. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For an around-the-clock broadcast, end and restart the stream before it reaches 12 hours rather than relying on one long archive. See YouTube’s Archive live streams guidance.
- Keep a local recording backup. YouTube recommends a local archive. It gives you a fallback if a session does not produce a complete YouTube replay.
- Check the archive in YouTube Studio. Open Content → Live, select the session, and inspect its details and visibility. YouTube allows creators to change privacy from the Content page.
- Set the replay to Public. Private or unlisted videos do not count toward qualified public watch hours. Deleted videos do not count either.
- Confirm the stream became a VOD. A livestream that is not converted to VOD is excluded from the qualified watch-hour total. If no replay appears, the session may not have been captured; retain the local copy and check the archive settings and session length before the next broadcast.
- Review content and rights before monetizing. Confirm that you have rights to all material in the stream, including music, and that the channel adds original or meaningfully transformed value.
YouTube’s YouTube Partner Program overview & eligibility describes the watch-hour route as “Qualified watch hours gained from long-form videos you’ve set public.” Public status alone is not enough: the replay must also be an eligible VOD.
Watch-hour eligibility is not the same as earning money
A public VOD replay can contribute qualified watch hours toward YPP eligibility, but it does not itself enroll the channel or guarantee that ads will run. The current higher ad-revenue eligibility route listed by YouTube is 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. The eligibility page also lists requirements including living in a YPP-available country or region, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling 2-Step Verification, having access to advanced features, and having an AdSense for YouTube account. Meeting the numerical threshold is not automatic acceptance: YouTube reviews the channel against its policies. Thresholds and program terms can change, so check the current Earn tab and eligibility page before applying.
After acceptance into YPP, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module in the Earn area of Studio to share in Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue from eligible long-form videos and live streams. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are enabled when live monetization is on; mid-rolls can be automatic or manual. Enabling monetization does not guarantee an ad will be served. Review the live and replay revenue breakdown in Analytics.
Originality and rights can still prevent monetization
YouTube’s reused-content policy applies at the channel level and covers live streams as well as replays. Republished material from YouTube or elsewhere, without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value, can make a channel ineligible for monetization. A continuous loop of a still image, borrowed ambient footage, or music is not automatically monetizable just because it stays live or accumulates watch time. Consider whether the channel clearly contributes original value and whether you have the necessary rights to every element.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s Terms of Service say creators represent that they have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. A public, successfully archived replay can therefore still fail monetization review if it uses material without adequate rights or does not meet originality rules.
