To run prerecorded podcast episodes as a continuous YouTube live stream, create an encoder stream in YouTube Live Control Room, compose a scene in OBS with episode art, audio or video, and a separately chosen audio-reactive waveform, then keep the encoder running—or use a cloud service. OBS documentation supports image and media sources and looping, but does not establish a built-in audio-reactive waveform. Plan the archive separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, without establishing the archive outcome for a longer uninterrupted broadcast.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Podcast episodes and artwork you have the rights to use in a live broadcast.
- An encoder workflow: OBS on a computer that stays in service, or a cloud-based 24/7 service.
- A waveform visualizer that is compatible with your chosen setup. Verify its installation, audio input, and output compatibility; the OBS documentation cited here does not confirm a built-in reactive waveform.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not show or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
Prepare the episodes and artwork
Confirm rights for every element
Check the rights for the episode recording, music beds, clips, artwork, and any other included material. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can interrupt or terminate a broadcast; even if you have a license, YouTube says the content owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the stream to avoid interruption. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Choose how episodes will play
For a single episode, you can loop one media file. For a rotating program, prepare a playlist and check that the playback method you choose supports the intended order and repetition. Keep separate copies of the individual episodes ready if you want viewers to find them as distinct on-demand videos.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create the YouTube encoder stream
- Enable live streaming on the channel in YouTube Studio if you have not already. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or schedule one. In its stream settings, locate the stream URL and stream key.
- Keep Live Control Room available for the encoder connection and preview checks. Do not publish the key in screenshots, overlays, or public notes.
YouTube’s current encoder workflow is described in its encoder setup guide. Labels can change, so use Live Control Room’s stream settings as the source for the connection details.
Build the scene in OBS
Add the art and podcast media
- In OBS, create a scene for the podcast stream.
- Under Sources, add the episode artwork as an Image source. Resize and position it in the canvas.
- Add the podcast file as a Media Source if it contains the audio or video you intend to play. Arrange the source layers so the artwork and any other visible elements appear as intended.
- Check the audio meter while the episode plays. Confirm the media source is audible and not accidentally muted.
OBS scenes combine sources such as images, media, and audio, with layer order controlling what appears above other elements. See the OBS Sources Guide and OBS Media Sources documentation.

Add a separate audio-reactive waveform
Choose and install a visualizer implementation separately; do not assume OBS includes a native waveform that reacts to audio. Before relying on it, verify that it works with your OBS version and operating system, can receive the podcast audio source, renders correctly at your output size, and continues animating during playback. Test it with the actual episode and confirm the waveform is driven by the intended audio rather than microphone input or desktop sound.
Loop one episode or a playlist
Loop a single file
Open the Media Source properties for the episode file and enable Loop. Confirm the file restarts as expected by letting it reach the end during a test.

Loop a playlist
OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists and a Loop Playlist setting, but requires VLC to be installed. Add the files in the desired order, enable playlist looping, then verify that playback advances from one episode to the next and returns to the beginning. OBS documents the source behavior, but does not promise unattended, uninterrupted operation; monitor the setup before leaving it running.
Connect OBS to YouTube and verify the preview
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service when available, or enter the server URL shown by Live Control Room and the stream key there.
- Use OBS output settings appropriate to the connection and video you have prepared. The cited sources do not establish a resolution-specific bitrate recommendation, so consult current YouTube encoder guidance for the target format rather than guessing.
- Start the encoder in OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming signal and inspect the preview and stream health.
- Check that the art is visible, the waveform moves with the episode audio, the audio is audible, and the correct episode is playing. Only then start or schedule the live broadcast.
OBS describes configuring the service or server and key, output settings, and automatic reconnect options in its OBS Studio overview. Reconnect settings can help the encoder reconnect after a connection failure, but they are not a guarantee that a local computer or internet connection will remain available.

Choose how the stream stays online
| Approach | What stays running | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Local OBS setup | The computer, OBS, and network connection. | You control the scene and software locally, but must keep the equipment and connection in service and monitor playback. |
| Cloud 24/7 service | The provider’s cloud system rather than a dedicated home computer. | Check whether the service supports your required composition, playlist behavior, monitoring, and rights-cleared media. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; pricing, uptime guarantees, and partner terms are not established here. |

Plan the replay archive separately
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish what happens to a single uninterrupted broadcast that runs longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on it producing one complete replay. If viewers need dependable on-demand access, schedule or segment the live program and publish individual episodes separately. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common problems
- No incoming signal in Live Control Room: Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key from the correct YouTube stream, and that the encoder has been started.
- Artwork or waveform is missing: Confirm the source is enabled and visible in the OBS scene, check source order and position, and verify the visualizer implementation is compatible and receiving the intended audio.
- Waveform appears but does not move: Check its audio input selection and test while the podcast is playing. A visual element that is not receiving the media audio will not react as intended.
- Playback stops at the episode’s end: Enable Media Source Loop for one file, or use VLC Video with Loop Playlist enabled for a playlist; VLC must be installed.
- Live stream is interrupted for a copyright match: Review all audio, video, and images for third-party material. A license may not prevent interruption if the owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID.
- One long broadcast is not available as a complete replay: The documented automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours. Segment the program and publish episodes separately when on-demand availability matters.
