Then monitor the stream in YouTube Live Control Room—not just the local FFmpeg process. A continuous channel may need separate live sessions if you want YouTube’s automatic archive, which applies to streams under 12 hours.
What you need before starting
- Media: a playlist of Telugu devotional recordings and any accompanying visuals. Secure permission for the intended territories and uses, including live transmission and archiving. Keep records of licenses and permissions.
- A YouTube channel and Live Control Room access: YouTube provides the stream URL and stream key that your encoder needs.
- FFmpeg: an installed build suitable for your media and output settings. Commands and available options can vary by build.
- An always-on host: a computer or server with stable power and internet. A 24/7 stream cannot depend on a laptop that you shut down or take offline.
- Monitoring and recovery: a way to restart FFmpeg after failure, plus checks of YouTube’s live preview and status.
Prepare your bhakti playlist and check rights
Make a playlist from recordings and artwork you are entitled to use for a live broadcast. Check both the underlying composition and the particular recording: permission for one does not automatically establish permission for the other. Verify that your rights cover the territories where the stream will be available, live transmission, and any archive or video-on-demand copy you plan to retain.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for necessary rights on the person providing the live content, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions. This does not establish whether a particular bhajan is public domain or whether a specific license is sufficient; confirm the scope with the rights holder or a qualified adviser.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It can show a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate it, and apply consequences for copyright or Community Guidelines strikes. A license may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Claims can also appear on an archived stream after the live session ends. Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream you plan to use.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the endpoint YouTube provides for the selected stream; if you want RTMPS, retrieve the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room because the standard RTMP URL may appear by default. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Enter the URL and key in your FFmpeg command or protected configuration. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it in a script repository, expose it in logs, or share it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start the encoder, then check the incoming preview and status in Live Control Room before treating the stream as live.
Send media to YouTube with FFmpeg
FFmpeg’s documented generic RTMP pattern reads input in real time and muxes it as FLV:

This illustrates the shape of an RTMP command; it is not a ready-to-run YouTube command for an unspecified playlist, codec setup, FFmpeg build, or stream key. Replace the example input and destination with your media and the exact URL/key combination YouTube provides, using the appropriate syntax for your setup. FFmpeg documents the RTMP protocol and output pattern at its RTMP protocol documentation.
For a continuous playlist, arrange for FFmpeg to advance through the files and return to the beginning when it reaches the end. Playlist construction, looping and reconnection flags depend on how your files are organized and on your installed FFmpeg build; test the sequence with the intended media before relying on it unattended. Match the output format and codecs to what YouTube accepts for the selected stream, rather than assuming the generic example supplies all required settings.

Keep the encoder running and verify the stream end to end
Choose where FFmpeg runs

Compare the total cost, upload reliability, encoding workload, restart and monitoring options, your administrative skills, and how you will recover the stream. A computer may show FFmpeg running while YouTube is no longer receiving a healthy stream; the community setup notes report this kind of mismatch as an anecdote, not a general failure rate.
Supervise and monitor
- Run FFmpeg under a process supervisor configured to restart it after a crash or host reboot. On a Linux VPS, the cited community example uses a systemd service; its exact configuration should not be treated as a universal recipe.
- Monitor the host and encoder for process failure, resource problems and loss of connectivity.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and live status as well. Local process health alone does not confirm that viewers are receiving the stream.
- Test recovery deliberately before leaving the system unattended: confirm that FFmpeg restarts and that the YouTube preview returns. Do not expose the stream key while doing so.
Plan for YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is a platform threshold, not a recommended session length or a promise that every archive workflow will suit a 24/7 channel. If automatic archiving matters, do not plan on one unbroken session beyond the threshold. Plan session transitions and confirm current Live Control Room behavior before relying on a particular archive process. See YouTube’s encoder livestream guidance.

Copyright clearance is not a monetization guarantee
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other formats. They require original, authentic material and describe repetitive or mass-produced content as potentially ineligible; reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. A playlist of licensed devotional songs is not automatically monetizable. If monetization is a goal, add meaningful original value and review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies.
