You can run a continuous children’s story stream on YouTube with OBS by preparing rights-cleared stories and visuals, configuring an encoder stream, testing it, and keeping the computer and internet connection running. Before you build the schedule, confirm your channel is eligible to livestream and decide the audience setting honestly: stories intended for children are likely to be classified as made for kids, which disables several features creators often expect.
Before you start: check YouTube eligibility and age rules
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days to livestream. YouTube also says a person must be at least 16 to livestream; a minor should not be treated as independently eligible to operate the broadcast. Review YouTube’s current [live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2474026) and use YouTube Studio’s live control room to prepare an encoder stream.
Set the audience setting accurately
A channel built around children’s stories is likely to be made for kids. YouTube says stories, characters, activities, songs, games, and other subject matter can indicate intent to target children. The creator is responsible for setting the audience accurately; a disclaimer that content is “not for kids” does not override its substance. YouTube may override an audience setting if it finds an error or abuse. For mixed-audience material, content aimed at children is still made for kids even if children are not the primary audience. See YouTube’s guidance on [determining whether content is made for kids](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9528076).
Plan around the feature limits before designing a chat-led or membership-led format. Made-for-kids content disables live chat and chat donations, comments, the notification bell, personalized advertising, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships on the content, among other features. YouTube limits data collection for compliance with COPPA and/or other applicable laws.

Clear rights for every part of every story
Having a book, audio file, or online recording does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. Secure the rights needed for live transmission and, if you retain an archive, for that archive as well. Check each component separately:
- The story text, including any translation or adaptation.
- The narrator’s performance and the recording itself.
- Illustrations, title cards, animation, and other visual material.
- Music, sound effects, and any other audio.
YouTube’s [livestream terms](https://www.youtube.com/t/terms) put responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights. Whether a particular book or edition is public domain or licensed for a specific use can vary by territory and by whether an archive remains available; the general rule does not establish that any specific work is safe to use. Keep permission records and note any limits on territory, duration, edits, or archiving. This is practical guidance, not a legal determination about a particular work.

Prepare a repeatable story program
Choose material you created, licensed for the intended distribution, or have otherwise verified you can use. Organize files and rights records together so each scheduled story can be checked before it goes live. Decide whether the channel will run a live-only feed or retain an archive: the latter needs rights that cover continued availability, not just the live performance.
For a static reading format, a simple scene with a rights-cleared illustration or title card can reduce unnecessary motion and encoding load. If you use animated scenes, test them on the actual computer under the settings you intend to run. Prepare a fallback screen and a clear restart procedure for when a source or scene fails.

Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard. In OBS, open the Tools menu and choose Auto-Configuration Wizard. Use its result as a starting point; it takes the computer hardware and network conditions into account, but still test the actual stream.
- Build a scene. Add the visual sources you need, such as a title card or artwork you have rights to use. Keep the scene simple unless you have confirmed the computer can encode more complex motion continuously.
- Check audio sources and levels. In the OBS audio mixer, confirm the intended microphone or playback device is selected, listen for unwanted sources, and verify that narration is clear and not clipping. Make a short recording or test stream to catch issues before going public.
- Set the stream connection. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the appropriate YouTube service or a custom server, then configure the stream key from YouTube’s current live-control interface. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Review output and video settings. Select resolution, frame rate, and bitrate based on the computer and upload connection you will actually use. The OBS overview explains output settings, but the material available here does not establish a current YouTube-specific bitrate recommendation. Do not assume a setting that works for a short test will remain stable unattended.
- Test before announcing the stream. OBS recommends running a test for a few minutes instead of jumping directly into a first stream. Confirm the image, audio, connection, and YouTube preview, then make the broadcast public when ready.
OBS documents automatic reconnect in its Advanced settings. Treat it as a recovery aid, not a 24/7 availability guarantee: it cannot resolve a power failure, home internet outage, account enforcement action, or YouTube-side interruption. Test a brief connection interruption and confirm what viewers see and how you resume. The OBS [Quick Start Guide](https://obsproject.com/kb/quick-start-guide) covers setup, stream configuration, and testing.
Plan the operation, not just the first broadcast
A continuous channel needs a person responsible for checking the stream and responding to failures. Keep the source media and permissions organized, decide who monitors the channel, and establish when to restart or switch to a fallback screen. A UPS may help a locally operated computer ride through some power interruptions, but size it for the equipment’s actual draw and desired runtime; it does not keep the internet or YouTube available.

What to expect from monetization
Do not build the channel budget around guaranteed ad delivery or features that made-for-kids content disables. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve; personalized ads are not served on kids content. Its kids and family quality principles can also affect earnings: low-quality kids content may receive limited or no earnings, and channels strongly focused on low-quality made-for-kids content may be suspended from the YouTube Partner Program. See YouTube’s [live-stream monetization guidance](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7385599) and [kids and family content quality principles](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/10774223). Eligibility and feature availability still depend on YouTube’s rules for the channel and content.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube loop without keeping OBS and a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. The setup is: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
