To control devotional music and ambience independently in a 24/7 YouTube stream, route them through separate audio sources or mixer channels with their own faders, combine them in a dedicated stream mix, and send that mix to your encoder. You can do this with a hardware mixer or audio interface, or with DAW and virtual audio routing. For a continuous broadcast, also plan for failures and recording: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, so a longer feed needs a separate archive plan.
What you need for independent level control
Separate control depends on the signal path, not on a particular brand of mixer. Music and ambience must reach the mixer as distinct sources or channels before they are combined. The combined stream bus then feeds the encoder.
- Music source: an authorized playlist, DAW, media player, or other audio source.
- Ambience source: a separate recording or source, such as rain, room tone, or environmental sound.
- Independent controls: a fader or level control for each source, plus an overall stream output control.
- Encoder: streaming software or a hosted playout workflow that can send the finished audio and video feed to YouTube.
A dedicated stream mix lets you adjust the broadcast for online listeners without changing a separate room or monitor mix, when your equipment supports separate routing. Yamaha’s livestream audio guide recommends treating the stream mix as its own mix and calibrating the path to the streaming software: Yamaha’s livestream audio guide.
Choose a routing approach
| Approach | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware mixer or audio interface | Assign music and ambience to separate inputs or virtual channels, adjust their faders, and route the resulting stream mix to the encoder. | Confirm the device provides distinct source controls and a separate output or bus for streaming if you need to keep the room mix independent. |
| DAW or virtual audio routing | Send music and ambience through separate software channels, then route their combined output to the encoder. | Verify that routing survives restarts and that the encoder receives the intended mix rather than only one source or the wrong system output. |
One specific implementation is the PreSonus Revelator io24: its support instructions describe separate system-playback and DAW faders, combining them in Stream Mix A, then selecting that mix as OBS’s input. It is an example, not a required purchase. See PreSonus’s Revelator io24 OBS setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Build and test the stream mix
- Prepare the sources. Load the devotional music and ambience into separate players, DAW tracks, interface channels, or mixer inputs. Check that playlists advance and loop as intended.
- Give each source its own control. Route music and ambience to different channels or virtual faders. Avoid combining them into a single player or input before the point where you need independent level control.
- Set up a stream bus. Route both channels to an output dedicated to the broadcast, if your equipment supports it. Keep it separate from local speakers or monitoring where practical, so a change for the audience does not unexpectedly alter the room sound.
- Balance and check the output. Adjust the music and ambience faders independently, then set the overall stream output. Listen to the actual stream from another device or browser and check balance, distortion, silence, transitions, and synchronization.
- Leave suitable headroom. Do not copy a meter value from another device as a universal target. Yamaha’s guide gives a 1 kHz test tone and digital -20 dB reading for a particular MG20 calibration example; that value is specific to its described setup, not a target established for every mixer, interface, program, or encoder.
Connect the encoder to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and open its Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Keep the key private; it grants access to the broadcast input.
- Choose the intended audio and video sources in the encoder, including the stream mix you built above.
- Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the correct picture and the independently balanced audio before selecting Go Live.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this workflow. Labels or layouts can change, so follow the fields shown in the current Live Control Room and encoder.
Plan continuity and recordings
Choose a recovery plan
A local encoder depends on the computer, playout software, network connection, and power remaining available. Decide who or what will notice a failure and how the feed will be restarted. Test the restart procedure before relying on it for an unattended broadcast.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation uses a continuing 24/7 feed as an example while a separate broadcast is started for a subset event, such as an interview. This illustrates how a channel can maintain a continuing feed alongside another event resource; it is API documentation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted encoder operation, account eligibility, or platform availability. See Google for Developers’ Live Streaming API guide.
Decide how to preserve the program
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive boundary, not an uptime guarantee. If your continuous broadcast may run longer than 12 hours and you need a replay, arrange another recording method or schedule shorter broadcasts. See YouTube’s encoder and archiving guidance.

Use the ingestion method your setup requires
YouTube documents HLS as an option for cases such as HDR or codecs unsupported by RTMP. HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency; it also has specific requirements for segment format, duration, playlists, transport, and codecs. For an ordinary audio-first devotional stream, continuity by itself is not a reason established here to choose HLS. Follow YouTube’s requirements for the encoder and workflow you use: YouTube’s HLS ingestion instructions.
Clear rights before you broadcast
Confirm that you have permission for the specific planned uses of every recording, performance, image, and ambience track, including continuous streaming and any replay or rebroadcast. A public-domain composition does not by itself establish that a modern recording or arrangement is cleared for every use. Buying a copy or providing attribution should not be treated as proof of broadcast permission.
