To loop a prepared Tamil song video on YouTube Live, use FFmpeg to publish it repeatedly to a MediaMTX RTSP path, then configure MediaMTX to forward that path to YouTube over RTMPS. Get the ingest URL and stream key from your YouTube Live Control Room when you set it up, and confirm the file has both audio and video. This workflow does not grant music rights: use recordings cleared for broadcast, and check whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel.
Before you start: check rights and prepare the video
Use only a recording you are authorized to broadcast on YouTube. A subscription, credit to the artist, or owning a copy of a Tamil song does not by itself give you rebroadcast permission. Music can involve separate rights in the composition and the sound recording; seek qualified advice about applicable law if you are unsure.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may cause a placeholder image, a warning, an interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
Prepare a media file with audio and video tracks suitable for the stream. MediaMTX warns that YouTube requires both; a video-only stream can be silently rejected. The steps below use a file named file.mp4 as an example. Replace it with the actual path to your cleared file.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

How to loop an MP4 forever with FFmpeg
MediaMTX documents publishing an FFmpeg input to an RTSP path with this command:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f rtsp rtsp://localhost:8554/mystream
-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely.-rereads the file at its normal playback rate rather than sending it as fast as possible.-i file.mp4selects the input file.-c copycopies the existing audio and video streams without transcoding.-f rtspselects RTSP output, andrtsp://localhost:8554/mystreamis the MediaMTX server and path in this example.
MediaMTX’s FFmpeg guide says, “The recommended way is acting as a RTSP client.” Follow its current instructions for your installed MediaMTX and FFmpeg versions: the example assumes MediaMTX is reachable at localhost on port 8554 and configured to accept a publisher on the path. It has not been established here that a particular version, file, or installation will work unchanged.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Because this command uses stream copy, it does not fix codec or container incompatibilities. If MediaMTX or the selected YouTube ingestion mode cannot handle the file’s streams, identify the incompatible track and use an appropriate, explicitly tested encode or remux workflow; do not assume -c copy converts anything.
Configure MediaMTX to forward the RTSP path to YouTube
- Start MediaMTX and confirm the RTSP publishing path. Configure the server to accept the FFmpeg publisher at
mystream. The FFmpeg example targetsrtsp://localhost:8554/mystream; change the host, port, or path only to match your actual MediaMTX setup. - Get the current YouTube destination details. Open YouTube Live Control Room and copy the ingest URL and stream key supplied for your broadcast. Do not reuse a URL copied from a tutorial: MediaMTX notes its example host reflected what YouTube reported when its documentation was updated.
- Add a MediaMTX forward entry for the path. MediaMTX documents a destination in the form
rtmps://...#streamKey, with the#separating the ingest URL from the key. Use the exact current URL and key from your account, following the syntax in the current MediaMTX Forward streams guide. - Keep the key private. Do not expose a personal stream key in shared configuration, screenshots, logs, or public examples. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Live Control Room before broadcasting again.
- Run the publisher and verify both tracks. Start the FFmpeg command and check that MediaMTX receives the path with audio and video before relying on the YouTube forward.
MediaMTX’s forwarding documentation states, “YouTube requires streams to have both a video and an audio track.” Read the current forwarding instructions alongside the current FFmpeg publishing guide; configuration details can change between software versions.

Match the outgoing stream to YouTube’s ingest settings
For RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, YouTube lists H.264 video, constant bitrate encoding, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular source file or server configuration will be accepted.
Choose bitrate based on the output resolution and measured upload capacity. YouTube lists 5 Mbps as a recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30 and 8 Mbps for 720p30; these figures are YouTube recommendations, not universal minimums or performance guarantees. YouTube also advises, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Test before the broadcast and monitor stream health while it is live. See YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

The FFmpeg example above copies the source streams, so it does not set a new bitrate, keyframe interval, codec, or constant-bitrate mode. Inspect the file and verify its output against YouTube’s current guidance. If it does not match, configure and test a suitable encoding or remuxing approach for that source and your installed software rather than assuming the example command changes it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.RTMPS or HLS: choose the matching ingestion workflow
| Consideration | RTMPS | HLS |
|---|---|---|
| Fit for this MediaMTX example | MediaMTX documents forwarding to YouTube with an RTMPS destination. | Not a drop-in replacement for the documented RTMPS configuration; the available guidance does not establish a complete MediaMTX-to-YouTube HLS recipe for this task. |
| Ingest setup | Use the current ingest URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. | YouTube specifies an HTTPS URL and requires HTTPS POST/PUT requests. |
| Encoding and use cases | YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio. | YouTube describes HLS for use cases including HDR or codecs outside RTMP support; match the encoder output to HLS requirements. |
| Latency and segments | Use YouTube’s available latency settings for the selected RTMPS workflow. | HLS disables the ultra-low-latency option. YouTube requires TS segments of 1–4 seconds and rolling playlists with no more than five outstanding segments. |
Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and HLS ingestion guidance for current requirements. Do not switch the destination protocol without also matching the encoder output and transport requirements to that protocol.

Troubleshoot a loop that will not reach YouTube
- FFmpeg cannot find or open the file: Check the input path, filename, file permissions, and that the file can be read by the user running FFmpeg.
- MediaMTX does not receive the publisher: Confirm MediaMTX is running, the configured path matches
mystream, and the host and port in the FFmpeg RTSP URL are reachable from the machine running FFmpeg. - YouTube shows no incoming video or rejects the stream: Confirm MediaMTX is forwarding to the current RTMPS ingest URL and that the stream key is correct. Check that the incoming program contains both audio and video.
- Audio or video is missing, or the format is rejected: Inspect the source tracks and their codecs. Stream copy preserves them; it does not make an unsupported track compatible. Test an appropriate encode or remux before going live.
- The stream buffers or has poor health: Measure upload capacity, select a bitrate suited to the resolution and available bandwidth, then test the stream and monitor YouTube’s health indicators.
- The broadcast is interrupted despite having a license: Contact the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist, then check Live Control Room for warnings or other restrictions. A license does not guarantee that automated matching will not interrupt the live stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
