To loop a store promotion on YouTube Live, play the video in OBS Studio, enable its Loop setting, and send OBS to YouTube using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. For several clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. The computer running OBS must stay on and connected for the broadcast to continue.
Before you set up the stream
- Check channel eligibility: YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first live stream, enablement can take up to 24 hours, so start well before the planned broadcast. YouTube live streaming tips
- Prepare the video: Have the promotion saved as a local video file. For a multi-clip rotation, decide the playlist order first.
- Confirm permissions: Make sure the store has the necessary rights for all footage, graphics, logos, music, and other material in the stream. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights needed for use on Google services, including music licensing rights, and to follow applicable law and Community Guidelines. - Plan for retention: If you need a copy of the broadcast, record or save a local archive. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Archive live streams
Loop one store promotion video with OBS
- Create a scene: Open OBS Studio and add a scene for the store broadcast.
- Add the video: In the Sources panel, choose + → Media Source. Name the source, select the local video file, and enable Loop in the source properties. OBS documents this option as replaying the file after playback completes. OBS: Media Sources
- Check the scene: Confirm the video appears in the preview and that its sound is appropriate. If it does not fill the canvas, adjust its position and size in the preview; avoid stretching it out of proportion.
- Connect OBS to YouTube: In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and create or select an encoder stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Preview, then start: Wait for YouTube’s preview to receive the OBS feed. Check picture and audio before starting the live broadcast.
Loop a playlist of promotion clips
For several videos that should play in a set order, use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding separate media sources.
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS if it is not already installed. OBS notes that the VLC source requires VLC; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a source with + → VLC Video.
- Add the promotion files to the source’s playlist in the order you want viewers to see them.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then verify the source in the OBS preview before connecting and starting the YouTube stream.
If VLC Video does not appear in OBS, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. OBS’s media-source documentation is dated January 11, 2022; labels may vary by installed version.
Schedule and monitor the broadcast
For an event, YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Use that lead time to confirm the Live Control Room preview, check that viewers can reach the watch page, and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube live streaming tips

With OBS running locally, playback and the broadcast depend on that computer and its internet connection staying available. Keep an eye on the stream while it is live, especially if a promotion has a fixed start or end time. Copyright, reused footage, and monetization
A loop setting only repeats playback; it does not grant rights or make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy says content should be original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered; YouTube described this as a clarification, not a change to the underlying policy. Troubleshooting
The video plays once and stops
Open the Media Source properties and make sure Loop is enabled. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source instead.
OBS does not show a VLC Video source
Install VLC and ensure it matches OBS’s architecture. OBS specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

YouTube does not receive the OBS feed
Confirm that OBS uses the stream URL and key for the intended encoder stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Recheck the key carefully, and replace it in OBS if you have reset or changed it in YouTube. Keep the key private.
The channel cannot start a live stream
Check channel verification and whether live-stream restrictions apply from the preceding 90 days. For a first-time stream, allow up to 24 hours for enablement before the planned broadcast.

The archive is missing or incomplete
Do not rely on automatic archiving for a stream longer than 12 hours; YouTube says such streams may not be captured. Keep a local recording when preserving the full promotion matters.
