To keep a prerecorded SaaS feature demo live on a product website, loop the video or playlist in an encoder such as OBS Studio, send that feed to YouTube Live, then embed the live watch page. YouTube Live does not loop a recording by itself: the repeating source must be provided by your encoder or a hosted service. If you only need a recorded video to repeat in an embedded player—not a live broadcast—use YouTube’s player loop parameters instead.
Choose between a live broadcast and a looping video
First decide whether the page needs an actual YouTube Live broadcast. A live broadcast creates a live watch page and uses an encoder feed. A regular embedded video can repeat without an encoder or a live event.
- Use YouTube Live if the page needs to present a live broadcast, such as a continuously running demo feed.
- Use a looping video embed if visitors simply need to watch the same recording repeat in the player. This is not live streaming.
YouTube describes live streaming as a way to interact with an audience in real time through a video feed and chat. For a product demo, decide whether those live-broadcast characteristics matter; the word “live” alone does not make a prerecorded loop interactive.
What you need before starting
YouTube channel access
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If live streaming is being enabled for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and enable streaming before scheduling a launch: YouTube live streaming tips and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

A finished, cleared demo recording
Prepare the demo as a local video file, or assemble the intended sequence of clips into a playlist. Make sure you have the rights to all video, music, interface footage, and other material in the recording. A live encoder does not remove copyright obligations; use only material you own or are authorized to stream. For a continuous product demo, also review the content and presentation for accuracy, privacy, and any confidential customer information before it is broadcast.
An encoder and a stable upload connection
An encoder is the software or hardware that sends video to YouTube. YouTube identifies encoders as useful for screen sharing, external audio/video hardware, and more advanced production. OBS Studio can loop a local file or a VLC playlist. Its VLC source requires VLC to be installed. Keep the computer, network, and encoder running for the duration of a local setup; the loop setting alone does not provide an uptime guarantee.

Set up a looping demo in OBS Studio
Loop one demo video
- Install and open OBS Studio. In the Sources panel, add a Media Source.
- Select the local demo file. OBS Media Source supports common formats including MP4 and WebM; confirm your particular file plays correctly in the preview.
- Enable the source’s Loop option so playback starts again after the file ends. OBS Project documents this control in its Media Sources guide.
- Arrange and size the source in the scene. If you add titles, logos, or other overlays, check that they remain visible and do not obscure important product details.
- Play the scene through at least one full file ending and restart. Confirm that the picture and audio do not briefly disappear or become out of sync at the loop point.
Loop a sequence of demos
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; the OBS VLC Video source depends on it.
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS and add the demo files to its playlist in the intended order.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then preview the full sequence, including the transition from the final item back to the first.
- Check that files have compatible presentation and audio levels. A playlist can keep content cycling, but it cannot make abrupt differences between clips feel like a deliberate transition.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder-based stream. YouTube’s guide, Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder, describes this workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not put it in public page code, screenshots, or shared documents.
- If the key is exposed, use YouTube’s live stream settings to reset it. Review privacy and related controls in Manage live stream settings.
- Start the OBS stream and wait for the Live Control Room preview to receive the feed. Check video, audio, and the intended scene before making the broadcast public.
- For an initial test, use a private or unlisted event where appropriate. Verify access in the watch page and on a phone before embedding it for visitors.
For encoder and event setup, use YouTube’s current Live Control Room instructions rather than relying on old screenshots: labels and available controls may change.
Check stream stability before embedding
- Leave bandwidth headroom. YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% room beyond the stream bitrate. This is an operational recommendation, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable.
- Run the encoder in advance. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video. Do not wait until the product page is being promoted to discover that the source does not loop or the encoder cannot connect.
- Check the actual viewing surface. Confirm that the event is visible on its watch page and channel page and that playback works on mobile.
- Check the archive if you need one. YouTube’s live-streaming tips include checking archive integrity. A clean live preview does not, by itself, verify that a saved archive will meet your needs.
See YouTube’s streaming tips and live streaming tips for the platform’s operational guidance.

Embed the live watch page on your product website
- Open the public YouTube watch page for the live event and use YouTube’s provided embed flow to obtain the player embed code.
- Place the embed in the relevant product page using the site’s HTML or content editor. Preserve the YouTube-provided video identifier and embed URL; do not substitute the channel page or an unrelated video.
- Test the published page on desktop and mobile. Check that the player loads, fits its container, and can be played by a visitor who is not signed in to your site.
- Keep the broadcast itself running in YouTube and the encoder or hosted service running. An embedded player displays the broadcast; it does not keep the broadcast alive.
If you only need a normal video to repeat
For a single regular YouTube video in an embedded player, YouTube’s IFrame Player documentation specifies loop=1 and a playlist parameter containing the same video ID as the video being embedded. This repeats playback in the player; it does not create a live event or live watch page. See YouTube Embedded Players and Player Parameters for the parameters and embed behavior.
Ways to keep the demo feed running
| Approach | What it does | Best fit | Responsibility and trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Runs uploaded video or a playlist from the cloud to YouTube Live. | Teams that want an always-on YouTube feed without keeping a local workstation running. | One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; no local OBS computer needs to stay on. |
| OBS Studio on a maintained computer | Loops a local file or playlist and sends the encoder feed to YouTube Live. | Teams that want scene, overlay, and production control in a software workflow. | The computer, network, and encoder process must remain available and monitored. The documented loop controls are not a service-level uptime guarantee. |
| Regular looping YouTube video embed | Repeats an ordinary video or playlist in a YouTube player, without a live broadcast. | Teams whose need is repeating playback rather than a live status or broadcast surface. | It is not live. A single-video loop uses the same video ID in the playlist parameter. |
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload the demo recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer, OBS process, or home connection has to stay on. Every slot supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.

Troubleshooting
YouTube does not accept the encoder feed
- Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the preceding 90 days. If streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Recheck that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the intended event. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings and update OBS.
- Confirm the encoder is actually streaming and check whether the Live Control Room preview receives video.
The video stops at the end instead of starting again
- For a single OBS file, confirm the Media Source’s Loop setting is enabled.
- For a sequence, use the VLC Video source, verify VLC is installed, and enable Loop Playlist.
- Play through the end of the recording or playlist in OBS before going live; do not infer looping from the first few seconds of playback.
The broadcast buffers or loses quality
- Check the upload connection and leave the 20% upload-bandwidth margin YouTube recommends over the stream bitrate.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor the stream during a test. If the connection cannot sustain the encoder output, adjust the encoder settings or use a more stable connection before publishing.
The stream works in YouTube but not on the website
- Confirm the page embeds the live watch page’s video, not the channel landing page or an outdated event.
- Test the published page on mobile and in a signed-out browser. Check site-level embed restrictions and page layout if the player area is blank or clipped.
- Confirm the broadcast is still active; an embed cannot substitute for a stopped encoder.
Cost and operating trade-offs
OBS Studio’s loop workflow uses software, but the local machine and connection must remain operational and monitored. A hosted continuous-streaming service shifts that operating responsibility to a provider, but compare current capabilities, limits, pricing, rights handling, and terms before choosing one. For StreamNeo’s slot features and available billing periods, check its pricing page; pricing and payment options can differ by location.
