To loop a recorded Fortnite match on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio to send the video to YouTube and choose either OBS’s built-in Media Source for one file or its VLC Video source for a playlist. VLC can manage playback, but OBS is the encoder that sends the stream. Add the video, enable looping, enter the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, test the preview and audio, then go live.

What you need before you start

  • A locally playable recording of a Fortnite match. The steps below stream a video file; they do not stream live gameplay from a camera or capture the game directly.
  • OBS Studio, which encodes and sends the broadcast to YouTube.
  • VLC installed if you plan to use OBS’s VLC Video source. Match the VLC and OBS architectures: OBS’s VLC source requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  • A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so check readiness before scheduling. YouTube’s current guidance also says streamers must be at least 16 years old.

Epic’s Replay feature can be used to review matches and make captures or clips. Epic’s cited documentation specifically describes enabling Record Creative Replays for Creative islands; it does not establish identical replay capture or export behavior for every Fortnite mode and platform. Prepare and test a video file that plays locally before configuring OBS. See Epic’s Fortnite Replay documentation.

Choose how to loop the recording

One match or one video file: OBS Media Source

This is the simplest option when you want a single recording to repeat. OBS’s Media Source supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM.

  1. In OBS, select or create the scene for the broadcast.
  2. Under Sources, click + and select Media Source. Create a new source and give it a recognizable name.
  3. In the source properties, enable Local File and browse to the match recording.
  4. Enable Loop, then select OK.
  5. Check the OBS preview. Resize or crop the source only if needed, and confirm its audio meter responds during playback.

OBS documents Loop as the setting that plays the file again when playback completes. Consult OBS Media Sources for current source properties.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Several recordings: OBS VLC Video source

Use this when you want a sequence of clips rather than repeating one file. VLC supplies the playlist playback; OBS still encodes and sends the resulting video to YouTube.

  1. Install VLC, ensuring it matches the architecture of OBS.
  2. In OBS, choose a scene, click + under Sources, and select VLC Video.
  3. Add the Fortnite recording files to the source’s playlist, arrange them in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist.
  4. Confirm the playlist plays in the OBS preview and that the audio is audible and correctly metered.

If VLC Video does not appear as a source, check that VLC is installed and that 32-bit/64-bit versions are compatible with OBS. The source and playlist controls are documented in OBS Media Sources.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the URL and key in their corresponding fields. YouTube documents where to find and manage these values in Manage live stream settings.
  3. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not share it or display it in a recording. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement.
  4. Use RTMPS when configuring the ingest destination if available. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and H.264 video, CBR bitrate control, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not set the keyframe interval above four seconds. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
  5. Choose a resolution and bitrate your actual upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s recommendations are not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection will maintain that output. Check the preview and stream health rather than assuming the configured values are stable.

Test, start and stop the broadcast

  1. Start playback in OBS and watch the preview in Live Control Room. Check that the video fills the intended frame, motion looks acceptable, and audio is present without clipping or unwanted silence.
  2. Test with representative movement and listen through the transition where the file loops or the playlist changes. Correct any black gap, abrupt audio cut or wrong playlist order before going live.
  3. Start streaming in OBS. Confirm that the incoming preview appears in Live Control Room, then start the event there if the stream setup requires that step.
  4. While live, monitor YouTube’s stream health indicators and OBS for dropped frames or playback problems. Stop the encoder in OBS and end the event in Live Control Room when finished.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If the broadcast needs to run longer, do not assume it will be archived under that guidance; check YouTube’s current instructions and plan for the archive limitation. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Copyright, Fortnite footage and YouTube rules

Having a recording or replay file does not by itself grant permission to broadcast every element in it. Check that you have rights to the gameplay capture and any music, voice chat, overlays or other material included. YouTube may restrict a live stream when it detects third-party content; a loop does not avoid those rules. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream policies before broadcasting, especially if the recording contains licensed music or other creators’ content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also consider whether a long loop offers enough original value for your channel and its audience. Repeating the same recording is not a substitute for complying with YouTube’s monetization policies; eligibility and monetization decisions depend on YouTube’s current rules and the channel’s content as a whole.

Troubleshooting common problems

The video plays once and then stops

For a single file, reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source rather than relying on VLC’s playback behavior outside OBS.

OBS has no VLC Video source

Install VLC and verify that its architecture matches OBS. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Restart OBS after installing VLC if the source is still absent.

YouTube receives no video or stays on a waiting screen

Check that OBS is streaming to the correct YouTube service, stream URL and current key. Confirm that the source is visible in the active scene and that its video is playing. A compromised or reset key must be replaced in OBS.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The preview is unstable or stream health is poor

Reduce output resolution or bitrate to a level the upload connection can sustain, then test again. Confirm the recommended CBR video rate control and two-second keyframe interval, which must not exceed four seconds. Monitor the health indicators during the test and broadcast.

The broadcast has no sound

Check that the source’s audio is not muted in OBS, that its audio meter moves during playback, and that the correct audio device or track is included in the stream. Listen to the Live Control Room preview before starting the event.

The recording or playlist will not play

First verify that the file plays locally. For Media Source, check the selected path and try a supported common format such as MP4. For VLC Video, confirm the files remain available at their playlist paths and remove any item that fails to load.

The stream runs longer than the archive window

YouTube’s cited encoder guidance documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. For a longer session, plan around that limit and verify YouTube’s current archive guidance rather than assuming the entire stream will be saved.
