To make a product installation video repeat in a YouTube Live broadcast, send the video through a streaming encoder and set the source to loop. In OBS Studio, add the video as a Media Source, enable Loop, then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder-based live stream using its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s own Loop control only repeats playback for an individual viewer; it does not create a live broadcast.
Choose the kind of loop you need
| Option | What repeats | Best for | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube player Loop | A video or playlist for one viewer | A customer manually replaying a regular YouTube upload | It does not create a shared, always-on live event. YouTube explains the viewer Loop control. |
| Encoder-based live stream | The source file repeats in the encoder and is broadcast as a live feed | A customer-support destination intended to stay available as a live stream | It requires a channel eligible for live streaming, an encoder and computer or service, network capacity, and monitoring. |
YouTube describes live streaming as a real-time video feed with audience interaction. For a single installation video, OBS Studio is a practical software encoder; dedicated hardware is optional rather than a requirement for this workflow. OBS documents its media sources, and YouTube describes encoder streaming.
Check the channel before setting up the loop
YouTube’s current live-streaming help says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16. Requirements and interface details can change, so check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance if Studio will not let you create a stream.
Set up a continuous installation-video stream with OBS
- Create the live event in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and choose an encoder-based setup. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. Keep the key private: it is the credential OBS uses to send the feed and YouTube uses to accept it. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Add the installation recording to OBS. Open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene. Select the local video file. In the source properties, enable Loop; OBS says this setting makes the file play again after playback completes. For a series of installation clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed for that source. See OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS’s stream settings, select YouTube if available, or configure the custom server using the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Do not share or publish the key. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
- Preview before going live. Start the feed from OBS and check the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the video framing, audio, loop restart, and that viewers can open the event from the channel or watch page. Check on a phone as well as a computer; YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring video and audio quality.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Once the preview is correct, start the event in Live Control Room if required by the event setup. Keep OBS running and monitor the feed and audio. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth about 20% above the total stream bitrate, rather than operating at the connection’s full capacity. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Plan for customer access and rewind
Share the live event’s watch page with customers and label it clearly as a repeating installation walkthrough. Make sure the recording itself is useful without a host: identify the product and model, show the steps in order, and include any safety warnings or prerequisites customers need before beginning.

YouTube DVR can let viewers pause and resume a live stream, but it may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. For an all-day or continuous loop, do not promise that customers can rewind to any point; provide a separate on-demand upload or written instructions if they need reliable step-by-step navigation. YouTube explains DVR on live streams.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You see a normal upload, not a live event: You have used the viewer Loop control. Create an encoder-based event in YouTube Studio and send OBS’s feed to it.
- The video stops at the end: Reopen the OBS Media Source properties and enable Loop. For multiple files, verify the VLC Video source and Loop Playlist setting, and confirm VLC is installed.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that OBS is streaming to the current event’s stream URL and key, that the key has not been changed, and that the channel is eligible to stream. Treat the key as a credential, not a public link.
- The preview stutters or drops: Check the computer’s upload connection and leave the bandwidth headroom YouTube recommends. Reduce competing network use and test again before announcing the event.
- Customers cannot find or open the stream: Confirm the event is public or has the intended access setting, that it is live in Live Control Room, and that the correct watch-page link was shared. Test that link while signed out or on a mobile device.
- Customers expect unlimited rewind: DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams over 12 hours. Share a separate on-demand version or written steps when rewind is important.
