How to Loop Product Demo Videos on YouTube Live with OBS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a product demo in a YouTube Live broadcast, add the video to an OBS Media Source, enable Loop in its properties, and stream the OBS output to YouTube. For a sequence of demos, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. YouTube’s own Loop control repeats playback for viewers; it does not loop a local video being sent as a live encoder feed.

Choose the right OBS source

Need OBS source What to know
Repeat one demo file Media Source Built into OBS. Select the file and turn on Loop to restart it when playback ends.
Cycle through multiple demo clips VLC Video Requires VLC to be installed. Add clips to the source’s list and use Loop Playlist; shuffle is off by default, so clips play in list order unless you change it.

OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM as supported Media Source file formats. For VLC Video in 64-bit OBS, install the 64-bit VLC build. See OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.

Prepare and add the demo video

  1. Check the material. Confirm you have permission to use the product footage, music, graphics, and claims in a public broadcast. The technical setup does not grant rights to material you do not own or have permission to use.
  2. Open or create a scene in OBS. In the Sources dock, select + and choose Media Source for one file. Give it a recognizable name, then select OK.
  3. Select the file and loop it. In the Media Source properties, browse to the local video file and enable Loop. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. The Restart playback when source becomes active setting is on by default; it matters if you switch scenes and later return to this source.
  4. Fit the video and check audio. In the preview, resize or position the source as needed. Confirm the demo is framed correctly and that its audio appears at the intended level in the Audio Mixer. Play representative footage before broadcasting.

For several clips, add a VLC Video source instead, add the files to its playlist, and leave Loop Playlist enabled. Check the order and preview transitions before going live.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
  2. Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you plan to use. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the available stream settings: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  3. Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s stream settings, or select YouTube in OBS if that integration is offered in your setup. Treat the key as a secret: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not show it in a screen capture or tutorial. See YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
  4. Start OBS and check the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then inspect the preview and stream-health information in YouTube’s Live Control Room before you present the broadcast as live to viewers.

Set video quality and upload capacity

Use settings that match the demo file, computer, encoder, and available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 with RTMP/RTMPS, recommends CBR, allows up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the target resolution and frame rate.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

As one specific example—not a universal setting—YouTube lists H.264 at 1080p30 as requiring a minimum of 5 Mbps and recommending 14 Mbps. Codec, resolution, and frame rate change the appropriate bitrate. YouTube also recommends keeping 20% upload headroom in its streaming tips. Test on the same network and with similar video motion and audio to the planned broadcast.

Preflight, go live, and stop cleanly

  • Set up at least two hours before the event and start the encoder at least 15 minutes ahead, as YouTube advises in its live streaming tips.
  • Watch the YouTube preview before starting the public event. Confirm the loop advances or restarts as expected, the video is framed correctly, and audio is present without clipping or an unintended silent gap.
  • During the broadcast, monitor OBS and YouTube stream health for interruptions, dropped frames, or audio/video problems.
  • When finished, stop the stream in YouTube and then stop the encoder in OBS. YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; confirm the current stream behavior and archive settings if your broadcast may run longer. Details are in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

Why YouTube’s Loop button is not enough

YouTube’s player-side Loop command repeats a YouTube video or playlist while a viewer watches it. A local prerecorded file sent as a live encoder feed must repeat in OBS—or another source application—before YouTube receives it. Viewer playback controls and DVR options are separate from the loop setting in your encoder. See YouTube’s guide to looping videos or playlists.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems

  • The video stops after one play: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a multi-clip source, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled in VLC Video.
  • VLC Video is missing from the source menu: Install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check again.
  • The playlist plays in an unexpected order: Check the file order in the VLC Video playlist. Shuffle is off by default, but a changed setting can alter playback order.
  • The source restarts when you change scenes: Check Restart playback when source becomes active, which is enabled by default for Media Source. Consider the desired behavior when switching away from and back to the scene.
  • YouTube does not receive the OBS stream: Recheck the stream URL and key in OBS against the selected YouTube stream. Keep the key private; replace or reset it in YouTube if it has been exposed.
  • The stream looks unstable or drops frames: Check encoder settings against YouTube’s resolution and bitrate guidance, and verify that the connection has the recommended upload headroom. Test under conditions similar to the actual broadcast.
  • The stream connects but the preview has no sound or the wrong framing: Check the OBS Audio Mixer and the source’s size and position in the scene, then verify both in the Live Control Room preview before the event.
