To broadcast a pre-recorded video or playlist as a live stream, create a pre-recorded stream in Castr, choose Loop, add and enable YouTube as a destination, then start the broadcast. YouTube’s player Loop button is different: it repeats playback for one viewer and does not put your channel live.
Choose the kind of loop you need

Use the YouTube player control when you want to replay something for yourself. Use Castr when you want viewers to join a shared live timeline on your channel.
Set up a looping pre-recorded stream in Castr
- Open Pre-Recorded Streams. In the Castr Dashboard, open Pre-Recorded Streams and create a new pre-recorded stream.
- Add your video or playlist. Upload MP4 files, or select recorded videos already in Castr’s Video Hosting library. For a playlist, arrange the videos in the intended order, switch individual videos on or off as needed, and check the displayed total duration.
- Select the start behavior. Choose Loop to repeat the playlist continuously. Choose Date & Time instead if you want the broadcast to begin at a particular time. For a scheduled start, check the device’s time zone so the start time matches your intended local time.
- Add YouTube as a destination. Configure YouTube and make sure its destination is enabled before the broadcast starts.
- Check channel eligibility and preview. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Review the broadcast preview and destination settings before relying on the stream.
- Start or schedule the broadcast. Start the stream for an immediate loop, or let it begin at the scheduled time you selected.
Castr’s file-based workflow sends the video through Castr; you do not need to play it on a desktop and capture the screen. Check Castr’s current plan details for available features and storage limits, which can change.
What to check before running a long broadcast
Live-stream eligibility
Confirm that YouTube has verified the channel and that it has not had a live-stream restriction during the previous 90 days. If the channel is not eligible, Castr cannot make it live on YouTube.

Copyright and reused content
Only broadcast videos and music you have the rights to use. A video being pre-recorded or already available online does not, by itself, establish permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from the Castr setup; review the rights and YouTube policies relevant to your material before scheduling a continuous stream.
DVR and archives beyond 12 hours
YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining a complete recording matters, keep a separate local archive rather than relying on YouTube’s automatic archive.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- The video repeats for you but the channel is not live: You may have enabled YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control. Create a pre-recorded stream in Castr and start it with YouTube enabled as a destination.
- YouTube is not receiving the broadcast: In the Castr stream settings, confirm YouTube is added and its destination is enabled. Check the broadcast preview and that the stream has actually started.
- The stream cannot go live: Check channel verification and whether a live-stream restriction occurred in the previous 90 days.
- The scheduled start is at the wrong time: Castr’s scheduler uses the device’s time zone. Check that setting against the time you intended.
- The playlist does not play as expected: Confirm the files are supported MP4s, review their order, and check that each intended video is toggled on.
- A long stream has no complete replay: YouTube may not archive a stream exceeding 12 hours. Keep your own local recording if the full program must be preserved.
