To loop a Hindi guided meditation recording on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, use -stream_loop -1 before the recording’s input, pair it with a video input such as a still cover image, and publish the combined stream to the RTMPS ingest address shown in YouTube Live Control Room. The command below is a template, not a tested command: replace the local filenames and account-specific ingest details, then verify audio, video, and stream health before relying on it.
What you need before you start
- A Hindi meditation audio file on the computer where FFmpeg will run.
- A cover image to provide the video portion of the YouTube broadcast. YouTube Live needs a video stream even when the content is primarily audio.
- An FFmpeg build with the
libx264video encoder if you use the command as written. - A YouTube live-stream setup with its current ingest URL and stream key. These values depend on your YouTube workflow; copy them from YouTube Live Control Room rather than guessing. Keep the stream key private.
- A stable internet connection whose sustained upload capacity can support the outgoing stream.
- Permission to broadcast the complete recording continuously, including any separately owned narration, music, or sound effects.
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop as an input option; a value of -1 repeats that input indefinitely. YouTube currently recommends RTMPS for live ingestion and lists H.264 video with AAC or MP3 audio. See the FFmpeg documentation, FFmpeg Protocols Documentation, and YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
Build the looping command
Run this in a terminal on the computer that has the files. Replace cover.jpg and hindi-meditation.mp3 with the actual file paths. Replace the quoted destination with the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key displayed in your YouTube setup; do not publish or share that destination.
ffmpeg
-re -loop 1 -framerate 30 -i cover.jpg
-stream_loop -1 -i hindi-meditation.mp3
-map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0
-c:v libx264 -tune stillimage -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60
-b:v 4000k -minrate 4000k -maxrate 4000k -bufsize 8000k
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
What the important options do
-rereads the cover-image input at real-time speed.-loop 1keeps the still image available as a continuing video input.-stream_loop -1appears before the audio file’s-i, so it applies to that input and repeats it indefinitely.-map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0selects the cover image’s video and the recording’s audio.-c:v libx264encodes H.264 video;-c:a aacencodes AAC audio. Confirm your FFmpeg build includeslibx264before using the command.-r 30sets 30 frames per second and-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, giving a two-second keyframe interval in this template. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says it must not exceed four seconds.- The video rate is set to 4,000 kbps, with matching minimum and maximum rates and an 8,000 kb buffer. YouTube’s current guidance lists 4 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 480p30; that is platform guidance, not a measurement of what this particular static-image stream requires.
-b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2sets stereo AAC to 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, matching YouTube’s recommendations for stereo audio.-f flvsends the encoded stream in the format used for RTMP/RTMPS publishing. YouTube recommends RTMPS when selecting an ingest protocol; FFmpeg describes RTMPS as RTMP over SSL.
The template uses a 480p30-recommended video bitrate, but it does not explicitly scale the cover image to 480p. If you choose a different output resolution or frame rate, adjust the video settings and bitrate together using YouTube’s current table, and make sure your upload connection can sustain the outgoing rate. Recommendations can change, so check YouTube’s current encoder guidance before going live.

Test the broadcast before depending on it
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and copy its current RTMPS ingest details into the command. Verify that the intended broadcast is configured and ready to receive the encoder.
- Start FFmpeg and look for a continuing connection and output rather than an immediate error or exit. If FFmpeg reports an unknown encoder, check whether your build includes
libx264. - Use YouTube Live Control Room to confirm that video is present and the audio is audible. Listen through a complete playback boundary if practical, so you can judge whether the repeated transition is acceptable.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health status and any warnings or messages while the test is running. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement, checking upload speed, and monitoring health during a broadcast. For this still-image format, verify that the image remains visible and the meditation audio is clear.
- Only rely on the stream after confirming the connection, picture, sound, and health indicators. A successful FFmpeg process alone does not establish that viewers can receive a healthy YouTube broadcast.
Make the meditation loop suitable for continuous listening
FFmpeg repeats the source file as-is. If it ends with silence, an abrupt cut, or a noticeable change in ambience, that boundary will recur every time the file loops. If a seamless transition matters, edit or crossfade the recording before streaming and listen to the boundary in a test. The command does not remove pauses or repair an edit.
Check rights and YouTube policy before broadcasting
Technical ability to loop a file does not grant permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm that you have rights to the recording and to every included element, such as narration, background music, and sound effects. If you rely on a license, verify that it permits continuous public live rebroadcast and covers the territories where you intend to reach viewers. The technical sources cited here do not establish permission for any particular recording.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot find a file | The filename or path does not match the local file. | Use the correct path for both inputs and check spelling, file extensions, and the terminal’s working directory. |
“Unknown encoder” for libx264 |
The installed FFmpeg build does not include that encoder. | Use a build that includes libx264 or adapt the video encoder settings to an encoder available in your build. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | The ingest URL or stream key may be wrong, outdated, or pasted incorrectly. | Copy the current details from YouTube Live Control Room, check the RTMPS destination, and keep the key private. |
| Video appears, but there is no audio | The audio input may not be mapped or encoded as intended, or the source may itself be silent. | Confirm that the audio file opens, that -stream_loop -1 precedes its -i, that the map selects 1:a:0, and that audio is audible in YouTube’s preview. |
| Connection or stream-health warnings | The upload connection may not sustain the outgoing stream, or the ingest may be unstable. | Check upload speed and YouTube’s health messages; reduce the output bitrate or resolution using YouTube’s current recommendations if the connection cannot sustain the configured rate. |
| The loop has an audible gap or jump | The recording contains silence or an edit at its start or end. | Edit or crossfade the source and test the transition before relying on it. |
| The image is missing or looks wrong | The image input path, pixel format, mapping, or output settings may not suit the source. | Confirm the image opens and that the video stream is present in the YouTube preview; verify the selected video mapping and compatible output settings. |
Cost and operating trade-offs
With this FFmpeg method, the computer running the command and its internet connection must remain available for as long as you want to broadcast. The connection must also sustain the chosen output rate. The exact cost of that setup depends on your own equipment, electricity, and internet plan; no universal cost can be inferred from the encoder settings alone.
