You can loop an authorized devotional video on YouTube Live from a Linux VPS by creating a broadcast in YouTube Studio, then using FFmpeg on the VPS to send the file repeatedly to the stream’s ingestion endpoint. You’ll need to confirm rights for every picture and sound, protect your stream key, and test the feed in Live Control Room before leaving it running. A VPS gives you control over the encoder and files, but it does not guarantee an indefinitely uninterrupted YouTube broadcast or archive.
1. Confirm you have rights to every part of the video
Before uploading or streaming, check the rights for the complete recording—not just its central devotional content. That includes footage, sermons, readings, hymn performances, background music, and embedded artwork. Religious subject matter does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast a recording.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material belonging to a rights holder, it may interrupt the broadcast. Even when you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the live stream to proceed without interruption. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and resolve permissions before you go live.
2. Create the YouTube Live broadcast and get its connection details
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Go Live.
- Create a stream or schedule one in the Manage tab of Live Control Room. If you have never enabled live streaming on the channel, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Open the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key provided for that broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe entering these values in your streaming software.
- Keep the key private: treat it like a password. Do not put it in a public script repository, a screenshot, or a message visible to others. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
Use the connection details supplied for the stream rather than guessing an endpoint or reusing a key from another broadcast. For a secure contribution connection, prefer the RTMPS endpoint YouTube provides. Google’s RTMPS guide specifies an RTMPS protocol URL, a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and application path, and port 443. The server hostname is also required for SNI authentication during TLS setup.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Prepare the Linux VPS and source file
Install FFmpeg and check the input
Install a maintained FFmpeg package appropriate for your VPS operating system, then upload the authorized video to the server. Package names, supported codecs, and command options can differ by distribution and FFmpeg build, so check the FFmpeg documentation for the version installed on your machine.
Inspect the file before streaming: confirm that it contains the intended video and audio streams, plays correctly, and has a duration that makes sense for the loop. Test the file locally or run a short VPS test first. A command that works for one file may fail or produce a poor result with another codec, frame rate, or audio layout.

Plan the VPS capacity and data transfer
Choose a VPS whose compute capacity can handle the encoding settings you intend to use and whose network plan covers continuous outbound video. The right capacity and transfer allowance depend on the source, whether FFmpeg must re-encode it, the bitrate, and the provider’s plan. No specific India-region host, price, quota, or performance is established here; check those details directly with any provider before paying.
4. Configure FFmpeg to loop and send the video
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 input option is commonly used to repeat a file indefinitely. Pair the loop with real-time input pacing and output settings compatible with YouTube. The exact command depends on the file and the installed FFmpeg build; consult its documentation and test with the actual source rather than assuming one command will work unchanged.

Use the server URL and stream key copied from Live Control Room as the output destination and credential. Do not publish an example containing your real key. If you need to transcode, choose encoding settings supported by your source, available VPS capacity, and YouTube’s current requirements; if you rely on stream copy instead, verify that the existing codecs and stream properties are accepted by YouTube. In either case, check the incoming preview before treating the stream as ready.
For the RTMPS output, preserve the supplied endpoint’s hostname and application path and use port 443 as specified in Google’s RTMPS guidance. Do not replace the hostname with an IP address: the hostname is needed for SNI authentication. Follow the documentation for your FFmpeg build when expressing the RTMPS destination and any required options.

5. Start the broadcast and monitor it
- Start the FFmpeg process on the VPS and check that it continues running without encoder or connection errors.
- In Live Control Room, verify that YouTube receives the feed and inspect the preview for stable picture and audio before starting or confirming the public broadcast.
- Monitor the VPS process and network connection. A VPS process can stop or lose connectivity, and YouTube can interrupt a live feed, so unattended operation still needs a plan for detecting failures and restarting the encoder.
- Plan session transitions rather than assuming one broadcast can run and archive forever. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that behavior is not a guarantee of indefinite broadcast duration or reliable 24/7 archiving.
6. Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the feed | A mistyped or outdated server URL or stream key, an inactive broadcast, or a connection problem. | Recheck the current stream settings in Live Control Room, confirm the broadcast exists, and review FFmpeg’s connection output. Replace an exposed key. |
| RTMPS connection or TLS setup fails | The endpoint, protocol, application path, port, or hostname does not match the supplied connection details. | Copy the RTMPS endpoint from YouTube’s stream settings. Preserve its hostname for SNI and use the documented port 443. |
| FFmpeg exits or cannot read the file | The path is wrong, the file is incomplete, or the installed build cannot handle the input’s codecs or streams. | Confirm the uploaded file and path, inspect its streams, and check the documentation matching the installed FFmpeg build. Test a short run. |
| Video or audio is unstable or missing | The input may have an unexpected stream layout, or the VPS may not sustain the selected encoding workload or network output. | Check the preview and FFmpeg output, verify the source’s audio and video streams, and test settings the VPS can sustain. |
| The live feed is interrupted after a content match | YouTube detected third-party material in the video or audio. | Stop and resolve the rights issue. Confirm that permission covers the use and that the rights holder has allowlisted the channel through Content ID where required. |
7. Choose between managing a VPS and using a cloud service
A self-managed FFmpeg-on-VPS setup gives you direct control over files, playback, and encoder configuration, but you must handle setup, compute and transfer costs, process monitoring, and recovery. A managed service reduces server administration, but compare its included storage, recovery behavior, billing, and supported quality before choosing. The rights workflow for source media is your responsibility either way.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is the #1 cloud option here: it keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running without a computer at home, supports any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives you the first day free. To start, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud; it does not stream from a camera.
