Add the video as an OBS Media Source, enable Loop, and send OBS’s live feed to YouTube through Live Control Room. Your computer, OBS, and internet connection must stay running for the broadcast; if you need the loop to continue while your equipment is off, use a hosted playout service instead.
What “looping on YouTube Live” means
YouTube Live receives a live feed from an encoder such as OBS. In this setup, OBS repeatedly plays the video file and transmits that output as a live stream. It is different from a viewer selecting repeat in the YouTube player: that only repeats playback for that viewer and does not broadcast the video from your channel.
Without a VPS means the encoder runs on your own computer rather than a rented virtual server. It does not mean the broadcast can continue without an encoder running somewhere.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to stream: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that streamers must be at least 16.
- Live streaming enabled: First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it and confirm access before your planned broadcast.
- A computer with OBS Studio: It must remain powered on, connected to the internet, and running OBS throughout the stream.
- A video file and sufficient upload capacity: Choose a stream bitrate your connection can sustain, then test it using audio and movement representative of the actual video.
- Rights to the content: Make sure you have the rights to the video and all audio you transmit. Clearly presenting prerecorded material as prerecorded can help avoid misleading viewers. No particular content type is guaranteed to be accepted or monetized.
Set up the YouTube live stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the stream and open its encoder setup.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Choose the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate for the encoder. There is no single suitable bitrate for every stream; select settings the upload connection can sustain and check stream health during a test.
Loop one video in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and create a scene for the broadcast.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Media Source.
- Select the local video file and turn on Loop in the source properties.
- Confirm the video appears as expected in the OBS preview. Check its audio level and listen for problems at the beginning, middle, and end. When the file ends, the source should start again.
- In OBS’s stream settings, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Set output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to match your planned stream.
For a loop made from several files, OBS provides a VLC Video source with playlist controls, including Loop Playlist. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. Add the files to the playlist, enable playlist looping, and test transitions and audio between every item.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start, check, and end the broadcast
- Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check the preview and stream health. Confirm that the video is moving, audio is present, and the selected quality is stable before going live to viewers.
- When ready, select Go live in Live Control Room.
- Monitor the stream while it is running. To finish, end the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop streaming in OBS.
Run a full test before launch, including the point where the file loops back to its beginning. YouTube transcodes the incoming encoder feed into multiple output formats for viewers, but that does not remove the need to send a stable feed from OBS.
Plan around computer, connection, and archive limits
What the local setup depends on
A no-VPS OBS loop depends on the local computer staying on, local power being available, OBS remaining open, and the internet connection staying stable. A shutdown, application failure, or lost connection interrupts the feed. This approach can suit a scheduled or limited-duration broadcast if you can keep an eye on the equipment; it is not unattended operation when the computer is off.

Long broadcasts and replay availability
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a longer or continuous broadcast will be preserved as one indefinitely available replay. For a long-running loop, plan for YouTube’s current live and archive behavior, and verify the current rules rather than assuming one stream or replay will remain available without limit.
Copyright and channel policies
Possessing a copy of a film, documentary, music track, or other recording does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it. Check the rights for every visual and audio element, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming policies for your circumstances. No general promise about monetization or acceptance of a particular kind of prerecorded content applies to every channel.

Troubleshooting a looped YouTube Live stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The channel cannot start a live stream | Live streaming has not been enabled, activation is still pending, or the channel is not eligible. | Verify the channel, check Live Control Room access, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Confirm the channel has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days and meets YouTube’s stated age requirement. |
| The YouTube preview does not receive the OBS feed | OBS may not be streaming, or the stream URL or key may be incorrect. | Check OBS’s streaming status and re-enter the URL and key from the correct YouTube broadcast. Keep the key private. |
| The video plays once and stops | Loop may be off on the Media Source. | Open the source properties and enable Loop. For a multi-file source, check Loop Playlist. |
| The VLC Video source is missing | OBS requires VLC to be installed for that source type to appear. | Install VLC, then check OBS’s source options again. |
| The stream is unstable or loses quality | The chosen output bitrate may exceed what the upload connection can sustain, or the local connection may be unstable. | Test representative movement and audio, choose settings suited to the available upload capacity, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health status. |
| Audio or the loop transition is wrong | The source may have a file-specific issue, a poor endpoint transition, or an audio-level problem. | Test the complete loop, including the file’s end and restart. Listen through the video and check the OBS audio meters before launching. |
| The broadcast stops when you leave | The local encoder, computer, power, or internet connection is no longer running reliably. | Keep the computer and connection active for a local OBS broadcast, or move playback to a hosted service designed to run in the cloud. |
