To loop a video file during a YouTube livestream in Streamlabs Desktop, add the file to your scene as a media source and enable its loop or repeat option in the source’s properties. This repeats playback; it does not start the broadcast. You still need to go live through Streamlabs’ normal streaming flow.
Set up a looping video source
- Open the scene you want to use. In Streamlabs Desktop, select the scene where the video should appear.
- Add a media source. In the Sources panel, select the plus button and add a media source. Choose the local video file when prompted. Streamlabs’ current guide confirms adding sources through this panel, while its media-file article identifies regular files such as MP4 as media sources. The exact dialog sequence can vary by installed version.
- Enable looping in the source properties. Open the media source’s properties and turn on its loop or repeat playback control. The official sources reviewed do not establish the exact current checkbox wording or placement, so check the installed release rather than relying on a precise label from another version.
- Check the scene and sound. Confirm the source is visible, sits at the right level in the scene’s source order, and that its audio is audible at an appropriate level. Use the preview to check framing before you stream.
- Start the YouTube livestream separately. When the scene is ready, use Streamlabs’ normal go-live process. The loop setting controls repeated playback of the file; it does not itself begin a YouTube broadcast.
Make sure you are using the right kind of source
A media source is the relevant choice for a video file stored on your computer. Streamlabs Media Share is a separate widget for viewer-requested public YouTube videos; its support article does not establish that it provides the local-file loop control described here.
Performance and file rights
Looping can trade memory use against repeated decoding work. Streamlabs’ article on media-file caching says cached decoded frames can be reused when a media source loops. Streamlabs reported an internal CPU-usage reduction of more than 35% in that article, published June 5, 2019 and last updated January 28, 2022. That historical company measurement is not a guarantee of the result on your computer.
Use a video you have permission to broadcast. Whether a particular file is cleared for your stream depends on its rights and the applicable YouTube rules; the sources cited here do not determine that for your video.

Troubleshoot a video that does not loop or appear
- The video plays once and stops: Reopen the media source’s properties and confirm looping is enabled. The control’s exact label and placement can differ by software version.
- The video is not visible in the preview: Check that the source is enabled and positioned appropriately in the scene’s source order. Confirm you are editing the scene you intend to stream.
- The video appears but has no sound: Check the media source’s audio level and confirm the expected audio is present in the selected file.
- The video loops, but the channel is not live: Start the YouTube broadcast separately through Streamlabs’ go-live flow; playback looping alone does not start a stream.
