Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo loop one video in OBS, add it to your scene as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop in the source properties. Leave the source visible in the scene you send to YouTube. OBS will repeat the file when playback ends; looping the video does not, by itself, keep the broadcast connected if OBS or your computer stops.
Set up a single-video loop in OBS
- Add the source: In the OBS scene you intend to broadcast, use the Sources panel’s + button and choose Media Source. Give it a name if prompted.
- Select the video: In the source properties, enable Local File if shown, then browse to and select the video on your computer.
- Enable repetition: Turn on Loop and apply the properties. OBS documents Loop as repeating the file when playback completes; it is off by default. The supported Media Source formats include MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Keep it active: Make sure the Media Source is visible in the scene that is live. If it is hidden or removed from the active scene, it will not be part of the outgoing picture.
Restart playback when source becomes active is a separate option, not the loop control. OBS describes it as restarting playback when the source is in the current scene and visible. Loop handles what happens at the end of the file; restart-on-activation handles what happens when the source becomes active.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream you will use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. The key is a credential that allows YouTube to accept the encoder feed, so keep it private. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring health messages. YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions
Choose OBS output settings YouTube can receive
For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube’s current encoder guidance accepts H.264, H.265 or AV1 video and recommends constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Use RTMPS when available; YouTube describes it as a secure extension of RTMP.
| Setting | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264, H.265 or AV1 are listed in YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance. |
| Rate control | CBR (constant bitrate). |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; no more than four seconds. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps. |
| H.264 at 1080p30 | 10 Mbps recommended by YouTube. |
| H.264 at 1080p60 | 12 Mbps recommended by YouTube. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 Kbps stereo audio are the stated recommendations. |
These bitrate recommendations are for H.264 at the specified resolution and frame rate, not universal targets for every codec or stream. Choose settings your connection can sustain and test them in the Live Control Room. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend at least 20% headroom above the combined outgoing stream bitrate; for example, a 10 Mbps outgoing stream calls for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity by that guidance. What a 24/7 broadcast means for replays and DVR
A stream that runs continuously is not guaranteed to become one complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, and YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup if the recording matters. YouTube: Archive live streams
Do not promise viewers they can rewind to any point in a very long live broadcast: YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on long streams, including streams over 12 hours. YouTube: Use Live Chat and Live Control Room

Keep the stream stable and troubleshoot common failures
- The video plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is on. Restart playback when source becomes active is not a substitute for Loop.
- The live picture is black or missing: Confirm the Media Source is enabled and visible in the scene currently being broadcast, and check that the selected file is accessible on the computer running OBS.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Verify the stream URL and key in OBS, check the Live Control Room preview, and make sure the stream key has not been changed or exposed. Treat the key like a password.
- Stream health reports dropped frames or unstable input: Check whether upload capacity has enough headroom above the combined outgoing bitrate. Lower the bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, then test again.
- Video is choppy or OBS reports encoding overload: OBS recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate and simplifying resource-heavy scenes. For local video and audio files, use Media Source or VLC Source. OBS Project: Encoding Performance Troubleshooting
- You need to preserve the broadcast locally: Record an archive and verify that the recording is intact and its file size is growing. A local copy is the safeguard when a long YouTube stream is not captured as a replay.
