How to Loop a Prerecorded Video on YouTube with Switchboard Live

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube through Switchboard Live, set the repeat option on an OBS Media Source, send OBS’s video feed to Switchboard, then start the YouTube destination. Switchboard relays the incoming feed; it does not store or loop your video file.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. Switchboard’s activation guide says enabling live streaming can require phone verification and take up to 24 hours; check YouTube Studio for your channel’s current status.
  • A computer with OBS installed, the prerecorded video file, and an internet connection capable of sending a continuous live stream.
  • A Switchboard workflow with a YouTube destination connected, plus that workflow’s stream URL and stream key.

Switchboard says prerecorded playback requires an encoder that can play the file, and that it supports RTMP ingest. Its FAQ names OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio as examples of encoders for this use case. The steps below use OBS.

Loop the video and send it through Switchboard

  1. Confirm YouTube live access. In YouTube Studio, verify that the channel is permitted to go live. If live streaming is not yet activated, complete YouTube’s current verification steps and allow for any activation delay.
  2. Prepare the Switchboard destination. Connect the YouTube destination to the relevant Stream Group or workflow in Switchboard. Keep the workflow’s stream URL and key available. If you are setting up a scheduled event, see the separate section below.
  3. Enter the Switchboard credentials in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Set Service to Custom, then enter the Switchboard workflow’s Stream URL and Stream Key. Use the credentials provided for that workflow, not a YouTube key, unless the scheduled-event steps specifically call for the event’s YouTube credentials.
  4. Add the prerecorded file as a Media Source. In the OBS scene, use Sources → + → Media Source, choose the video file, and enable the repeat/loop option in the source settings. A local file does not need a Video Capture Device or capture card.
  5. Start the encoder feed. Click Start Streaming in OBS. Switchboard’s OBS walkthrough says to check its confidence monitor and confirm that the incoming feed indicator is green before proceeding.
  6. Start the YouTube destination. Once the feed is visible in Switchboard, start the YouTube destination there. Confirm that the expected video and audio reach YouTube before sharing the stream link.

Choose visibility before sharing

Set the YouTube stream’s visibility for the audience you intend. Switchboard documents the choices as public, unlisted, and private. Public is for an open audience; unlisted is accessible to anyone who has the link, so it is not access control; private is intended for restricted viewing by eligible channel viewers. Check the current YouTube controls and restrictions when selecting private access.

If you are using a scheduled YouTube event

A scheduled event can involve additional setup beyond starting a regular YouTube destination. Switchboard’s event guide describes creating the event in YouTube, using its stream URL and key to configure a custom RTMP destination in Switchboard, and coordinating the encoder with YouTube Live Control Room. Follow the event-specific instructions in the current interfaces and verify that the event is receiving the feed before it is due to begin. The guide, last updated about a year before October 3, 2026, described limitations around direct scheduled-event support at that time; do not assume that older limitation still applies without checking Switchboard’s current product.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Optional: send an external video source

For a local prerecorded file, use an OBS Media Source as described above. If instead you need to send an external HDMI camera or other HDMI source, add the relevant Video Capture Device source in OBS. Whether separate capture hardware is needed depends on the computer and equipment; it is not required just to loop a file already on the computer.

Common problems and fixes

  • Switchboard shows no incoming video: Confirm OBS is streaming, the service is set to Custom, and the stream URL and key match the Switchboard workflow. Check whether the stream is visible in the confidence monitor and whether the receiving indicator is green.
  • The video plays once and stops: Open the OBS Media Source properties and enable its repeat/loop option. The repeat control belongs to the encoder, not Switchboard.
  • OBS is sending, but YouTube is not live: Check that the incoming feed is present in Switchboard and that the YouTube destination has been started. For a scheduled event, verify the event-specific credentials and receiving status in Live Control Room.
  • You cannot start a YouTube stream: Check YouTube Studio for channel live-stream eligibility. Switchboard’s activation guide says verification may be required and activation may take up to 24 hours; that is vendor guidance, not a guaranteed timing for every channel.
  • The wrong people can view an unlisted stream: Anyone with its link can view an unlisted stream. Choose private visibility if YouTube’s current eligibility and access controls meet your needs.

Copyright and channel-policy checks

Before leaving a documentary, film, music track, or other recording on repeat, confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to stream it on YouTube. A loop setting only repeats playback; it does not grant distribution rights or guarantee that YouTube will accept the content. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for your channel and the material you plan to broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

The OBS-and-Switchboard setup keeps the video playing from your computer, so the computer and its connection must remain available for the stream. If you want a prerecorded YouTube channel to keep running without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is YouTube-only and does not stream from a camera.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
  • Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • The first day is free with no card. One free day is available per account.
  • Monthly: $9.99 per month.

Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. Plans differ by duration, not features; options include a day, a week, a month, six months, or a year, with cancellation any time. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
