You can send a prerecorded video to YouTube Live through Streamlabs Desktop, but the exact loop control for a local video source is not documented in the official Streamlabs material available here. Check your installed version for a repeat or loop option and verify it in a private or unlisted test before relying on it for a continuous broadcast. The setup below covers the parts you can confirm: YouTube access, source and audio checks, encoder settings, rights, and monitoring.

What you need before setting up the stream

  • A finished video file that you have the rights to broadcast, including its music and other audio.
  • Streamlabs Desktop installed on a computer that can encode the chosen resolution and frame rate.
  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Streamlabs says channel verification may take up to 24 hours, so enable access ahead of your planned broadcast.
  • A stable upload connection with enough capacity for the selected stream bitrate, plus headroom for normal network variation.

Streamlabs lists 8 GB of RAM as a minimum and 16 GB or more as recommended. Its general upload-speed guide says 3.6 Mbps or better for 720p at 30 fps on most platforms, but that broad guidance is not a substitute for YouTube’s bitrate recommendations or a test of your actual connection. Workload and other running programs affect the computer resources you need.

Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube

Use the connected-account workflow

Connect your YouTube account in Streamlabs Desktop using the account sign-in workflow offered by the app. Then confirm that the intended YouTube channel is selected and that live streaming is enabled for it.

Use a stream key if configuring an encoder manually

If you configure the YouTube output with a stream key and server URL, copy those values from YouTube’s encoder setup into Streamlabs. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Do not show it in a screenshot or share it in a public post. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream details workflow: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Add the prerecorded video and check whether it loops

  1. In Streamlabs Desktop, add the video file as a media source using the source controls available in your installed version. Confirm that the intended file appears in the preview.
  2. Check the framing and audio levels. Make sure the video is visible, correctly sized for the scene, and audible at a useful level without clipping.
  3. Inspect the source’s current settings and controls for a repeat or loop option. The official Streamlabs documentation cited here does not establish the current label, menu path, or behavior for looping a local prerecorded source, so do not assume a particular VLC, media-source, or playlist procedure will work in your version.
  4. Test the behavior before broadcasting to viewers: let the video reach its end and confirm that it returns to the beginning and continues with audio. If there is no repeat control, or the source stops at the end, do not treat the setup as a continuous loop.

Streamlabs’ source and broadcast guides cover adding sources and going live, but not a verified current loop control: Streamlabs Desktop overview.

Choose encoder settings that match your output

Use YouTube’s current live-encoder table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you plan to send. Its recommendations are not one-size-fits-all: the bitrate changes with those choices. For H.264, YouTube lists 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 8 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of a Streamlabs loop setup.

  • Set rate control to CBR, as YouTube recommends.
  • Set the keyframe interval to two seconds; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
  • Choose a resolution and frame rate your computer can encode reliably and your upload connection can sustain. Higher settings require more upload capacity.
  • Test with representative moving video and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming a successful preview guarantees a stable live broadcast.

See YouTube’s live encoder guidance for the full codec-specific table and testing advice: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Run a test, then go live

  1. Set the YouTube broadcast visibility to private or unlisted for a test, depending on who should be able to access it.
  2. Start the output from Streamlabs Desktop and check YouTube’s preview. Confirm that video is moving, audio is present, and the stream health indicator is acceptable.
  3. Let the video reach its end during the test and verify that the loop behavior you intend actually occurs.
  4. If the test is sound, set the intended audience visibility in YouTube and start the public broadcast. Keep Streamlabs and the computer running while you are using this desktop-encoder method.
  5. Monitor stream health while it is live. When finished, stop the encoder output and check the resulting YouTube archive.

Check copyright and archive limits

Looping a file does not change the rights required to broadcast it. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match may replace the live stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Make sure you have the necessary rights for both the video and its music. YouTube’s livestream terms require rights for live content, including music licensing rights: YouTube Help: Livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube can automatically archive streams that are under 12 hours and recommends keeping a local backup. Do not assume a longer continuous stream will be completely archived. If preserving the full program matters, record a local copy as well as sending the live output.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom What to check
The channel cannot start a live stream Confirm the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and the channel has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If access has only just been enabled, allow time for verification to take effect.
The video is visible in preview but will not repeat Check the media source’s controls in your installed Streamlabs version and test playback through the end. The cited official documentation does not verify a specific loop setting or procedure; do not rely on an untested menu path.
There is no audio, or it sounds distorted Check that the source audio is enabled and that the Streamlabs audio meter moves during playback. Lower levels that clip and test representative sections before going live.
YouTube reports poor stream health or the output drops Compare the configured bitrate with the correct YouTube table row for your codec, resolution, and frame rate. Test the upload connection, reduce output demands if it cannot sustain the bitrate, and use CBR with a two-second keyframe interval.
The broadcast is interrupted after starting Check YouTube’s live preview and stream health, then review any copyright notice or restriction. A third-party-content match can interrupt or terminate a stream.
The archive does not include the entire long broadcast YouTube’s automatic archiving guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; keep a local recording when complete retention matters.
