How to Live Stream Shopping on YouTube

YouTube live shopping has two routes: tag products from your own connected store or, if eligible, feature participating brands through the affiliate program. Learn the setup, viewer purchase flow, and common reasons tags do not appear.

You can make a YouTube live stream shoppable in two ways: connect a supported store to tag products you sell, or—if your channel qualifies—join the YouTube Shopping affiliate program to tag products from participating brands. In either case, add products in YouTube Studio, arrange them in the order viewers should see them, and pin a featured item while live. Product tags do not guarantee that every viewer can buy every item: eligibility, retailer availability, shipping, and checkout vary by channel, country, and product.

Choose the right YouTube Shopping route

Start by deciding whose products you want to feature. YouTube supports tagging products connected to your own store and, for eligible creators, products from participating brands through its Shopping affiliate program. These are separate routes with different eligibility checks and purchase flows.

Question Your own products Other brands’ products
How it works Connect a supported store or retailer, then tag products sold through it. Join the YouTube Shopping affiliate program, then select products from participating retailers.
Who can use it Creators who have access to YouTube Shopping and a supported store integration; check current availability in Studio. Creators who meet the affiliate program’s channel, location, and audience requirements.
How you earn Revenue from sales of your own products. You may earn a commission on eligible purchases. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not state one universal commission rate.
Where viewers buy Your connected store or a supported checkout flow. A YouTube shopping flow or the retailer’s site, depending on the product and surface.
Usually best for A creator with merchandise or other products of their own. An eligible creator demonstrating or recommending products made by other brands.

Route A: sell products from your own store

YouTube’s live-selling guidance gives Shopify and Spring as examples of store platforms. Those are examples, not a guarantee that every integration or feature is available to every creator or country. Check the current supported-platform options and your channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s guidance on selling your own products in live streams explains the route.

Route B: feature products from other brands

To tag another brand’s products, you need access to the YouTube Shopping affiliate program. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance lists the following requirements: your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program and meets its subscriber threshold; you are based in Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, or Vietnam; your channel is not a music channel or Official Artist Channel and is not associated with music partners; and your audience is not set as Made for Kids and does not include a significant number of videos set as made for kids.

Tag products before, during, or after your live stream

On a computer in YouTube Studio

  1. Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live.
  2. Open the live stream or its management view, then find the Shopping tab below the preview.
  3. Add or remove products in the picker. Arrange them in the order you want them displayed, then save. The order in the picker determines the display order.
  4. While live, pin the product you are featuring if you want to highlight it.

You can also add product tags after the broadcast so they appear on the replay. Interface details differ on mobile, and YouTube says some changes made during a stream may not appear immediately to viewers who are already watching. Follow YouTube’s live-stream product tagging instructions for the current computer workflow.

In the mobile live-stream flow

Product tagging is also available through YouTube’s mobile live-stream flow for eligible channels. The exact controls can differ from desktop, so check the live setup and Shopping controls shown in your app rather than assuming the computer layout will match. Before going live, verify that the intended items appear in the product list; during the stream, pin a featured product when that option is available.

Make product tags useful to viewers

Tags work best when viewers can quickly understand what an item is and why it belongs in the stream. For affiliate products, YouTube recommends tagging relevant items in the order they appear and giving viewers a clear call to action. Its live affiliate-program tips cover product promotion during a broadcast.

What viewers see and where they buy

Viewers can open the Shopping control on an eligible live stream to review tagged products. A product shelf may also appear below or beside the stream, and a pinned item can be highlighted. Depending on the item and shopping surface, a viewer may see a product preview or be sent to the official retailer’s store.

Shopping availability for viewers is not the same as creator eligibility for the affiliate program. A creator may need to meet the affiliate program’s country requirements, while a viewer’s ability to see, order, and receive a product depends on the product, the viewer’s location, and shipping availability. YouTube says it is not responsible for products or transactions on external retailer sites. See YouTube’s guidance on buying products for viewer-side details.

Why a tagged product may not appear

Adding a product in Studio does not mean it will be shown in every live stream. YouTube says product tags will not show on streams with claimed content or certain music-partner associations, content marked Made for Kids, paid content, streams limited or ineligible for monetization, or streams blocked for ads. A product may also be unavailable to a viewer because of location or shipping restrictions.

Symptom What to check
Shopping controls or tags are missing Check the channel’s Shopping access and eligibility in Studio, then review whether the stream has claimed content, a relevant music-partner association, a Made for Kids setting, paid content, monetization limits, or an ad block.
A product is unavailable to a viewer Check the viewer’s country, the retailer’s availability, and whether the item ships to that location.
A change does not show to current viewers Allow for YouTube’s warning that some live changes may not appear immediately; confirm the saved product list and check the replay afterward.
A product is hard to identify or feels unrelated Show the item clearly, explain its relevance, and use it safely. Review YouTube’s product-tagging guidance for live streams.

Protect rights and follow YouTube’s rules

You must own or clear the rights to all content in the broadcast, including any necessary music rights, and follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A music claim or partner association can affect whether shopping tags appear, so do not assume that adding products will override restrictions on the stream. Review YouTube’s live-stream tagging rules and general product-tagging guidance before broadcasting.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your shopping broadcast is a prerecorded video loop rather than a live camera presentation, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos, not live camera input, and it does not add YouTube Shopping tags; use YouTube Studio to manage shopping products. Start your free StreamNeo day.
