Keep the episode record in your RSS feed if RSS is your source of truth, configure live-stream details separately in YouTube Studio, then review the archive and add it to the podcast playlist only if it is a full episode.
Understand which YouTube record holds each detail
YouTube treats a podcast as a playlist and each episode as a video. The podcast playlist has show-level information, including its title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and video order. Each episode video has its own title, description, and other video details. A live stream also has its own metadata and settings.
These records are related, but playlist membership is not a metadata-sync mechanism. YouTube’s documentation does not say that adding a live archive to a podcast playlist copies RSS episode details onto that video.
Choose the source of truth for episode metadata
If your podcast is managed through RSS
For an audio-first show distributed through an RSS feed, make the episode title, description, and release date correct in the feed before YouTube ingests the episode. YouTube can create videos from selected feed episodes and automatically upload new episodes. RSS ingestion is available only in select countries or regions, so check YouTube’s current availability for your account and location in its RSS podcast delivery guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep editing RSS-managed episode details in the feed if you want the feed to remain authoritative. YouTube Help states: “If you change episode details in YouTube Studio, we’ll block future edits to that episode made within your RSS feed.” This applies to episode details; podcast-level settings remain editable in Studio.
If the live archive will be the episode
A live event is set up as a stream, not as an RSS-created episode. Give it the intended episode title and description in the live-stream setup, then inspect the resulting archive after the event. If it is the full episode you want listeners to find in the show, add that existing video to the podcast playlist and check its details there. Do not assume the RSS feed will later overwrite or synchronize those details.

Set up the live stream separately in YouTube Studio
- Create or schedule the stream: In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream creation workflow and enter the stream’s own title and description. Treat these as live-stream metadata; do not expect podcast feed details to populate them.
- Reuse prior settings only when appropriate: YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance says, “The new stream will copy the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and the stream key.” Review the copied title, description, settings, and key before going live. This feature reuses one stream’s setup for another; it does not connect the stream to podcast RSS metadata.
- Keep the episode’s intended identity clear: Decide whether the event is a complete podcast episode, a live companion event, or other programming. That decision determines whether its archive belongs in the podcast playlist or a separate live-events playlist.
Review and organize the archive after the event
- Check that an archive exists: YouTube says live-stream archives are uploaded by default after events. Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup, and streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
- Open the archived video’s details in Studio: Verify the title, description, visibility, and other relevant video details. If the archive should match an RSS episode, compare it with the feed entry and correct the archive deliberately; do not rely on playlist placement to do this.
- Choose the right playlist: Add a full-length episode to the podcast playlist. For an event archive that is not a full episode, use a regular live-events playlist instead. YouTube recommends keeping podcast playlists to full-length episodes, not mixing in clips, different shows, or videos from other channels. See YouTube’s podcast setup guidance and podcast playlist best practices.
- Set playlist details and order: Studio’s playlist controls let you add videos and edit playlist title, description, visibility, and ordering. YouTube lists a 150-character playlist-title limit and a 5,000-character playlist-description limit. These limits apply to the playlist, not the episode video’s title and description. For an episodic show, YouTube recommends newest-to-oldest order; for serial storytelling, oldest-to-newest.
Understand dates and ordering for RSS episodes
For RSS-uploaded episodes, YouTube says playlist ordering uses the RSS release date when present; otherwise it uses the YouTube publish date. YouTube says the RSS release date is not verified. Some YouTube surfaces show the feed release date, while others show the YouTube publish date. Changing a release date in Studio does not change the RSS feed date. For details, consult YouTube’s RSS delivery guidance.
What RSS hosts can—and cannot—be assumed to do
YouTube says some podcast hosting platforms offer YouTube distribution and advises creators to check with their host. That makes a host a possible distribution route, not a guaranteed solution for syncing live-stream metadata or archive details. Confirm that a specific host supports the workflow you need before relying on it.

Troubleshoot metadata that is missing or not updating
- An RSS episode’s Studio edits stop updating: YouTube says editing episode details in Studio blocks future RSS edits for that episode. If feed synchronization matters, maintain the episode details in the RSS feed; do not expect later feed changes to replace the Studio edit.
- The live stream has the wrong title or description: Live-stream metadata is separate from the RSS episode record. Edit the stream’s own details in Studio and review them before the event.
- A reused stream has unexpected settings or a key: Reusing a prior stream copies its metadata, settings, and stream key. Inspect the copied setup and make any needed changes before starting the new stream.
- The archive is not in the podcast: An archive is not documented as automatically joining a podcast playlist. After the event, add the existing video deliberately if it is a full episode; otherwise place it in a regular archive playlist.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording as a backup, as YouTube recommends, and check the archive after the event.
- The playlist order or displayed date seems wrong: RSS release dates and YouTube publish dates are distinct, and different YouTube surfaces may show different dates. Check the feed date and the video’s YouTube publish date, then set the playlist order appropriate to an episodic or serial show.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud. The workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it does not replace the metadata steps above: set up the stream details in YouTube and review the archive as needed.
- Nothing has to stay running on a home computer or connection.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card.
The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial, or see how StreamNeo works.
