To keep Larix Broadcaster streaming while your Android screen is off, start the stream, enable Larix’s background-streaming option if it is available in your installed edition, then lock the display without closing the app. If the stream stops, check Larix’s app-specific battery and background permissions in Android settings; a Restricted battery state can prevent background activity, and the exact controls vary by phone maker.
Set up Larix for streaming with the screen off
- Start the stream first. Open Larix Broadcaster, start your stream, and confirm it is active before locking the display.
- Check Larix’s background-streaming setting. In the app’s settings, look for the background-streaming feature and enable it if available. Softvelum’s current Larix for Android page describes “Background streaming when app is not in focus” as a premium feature. Its Android FAQ also says background operation is available by default until the app is explicitly closed. Because those statements may apply to different editions or modes, check what your installed edition offers. The official product page links a tutorial, but the available documentation does not establish one universal tap-by-tap menu path: Larix for Android and Larix Android FAQ.
- Lock the display without closing Larix. Press the phone’s power button to turn off the screen. Do not swipe Larix away or otherwise explicitly close it; Softvelum’s FAQ says background operation continues until the app is explicitly closed.
- Check the stream from another device. Verify that the live stream is still running after the phone display goes dark. This distinguishes a working background stream from one that stopped when the screen locked.
If Larix stops after the screen locks
Android’s battery controls can limit background execution. In the phone’s settings, find Larix under the app-specific battery or background-activity controls and check that it is not in the Restricted state. Android says Restricted prevents an app from running in the background; the precise settings and available options can differ by manufacturer. See Android’s guidance on power management. There is no single menu path or battery-setting change that is guaranteed to fix every phone.
- Larix closes or disappears from the background: Make sure you have not explicitly closed the app, and confirm that background streaming is available and enabled in your edition.
- The stream ends shortly after locking: Check whether Android has restricted Larix’s background activity. Review the device maker’s battery controls for the app.
- The stream still fails despite those checks: Background settings cannot guarantee recovery from an app crash, network loss, thermal shutdown, or a device-specific camera restriction. The cited documentation does not promise uninterrupted operation in those situations.
Screen off does not necessarily mean CPU off
Turning off the display and allowing the processor to sleep are different states. Android notes that wake locks can keep the CPU awake but drain battery, and recommends using them sparingly. Do not assume that keeping the screen dark will stop battery use while Larix is streaming. See Android’s wake-lock guidance.
Audio-only background streaming is different
Larix offers an audio-only option for cases where video is not required. Softvelum describes this mode as disabling the preview and streaming from the background with no video in the output. It is not a way to keep a video stream running with the screen off. Details are on the Larix for Android page.
